Enjoy healthy Japanese cuisine casually amidst the nature of Karuizawa!
Just a 5-minute drive from Karuizawa Station! We offer organic vegetables from Azumino Inoue Farm, local chicken "Sanada Maru," Dabo's Yorkshire pork, Shinshu wagyu beef, and rice from Nagano's special Milky Queen cultivation. Fresh fish is delivered directly from Toyosu Market and local fishing ports. |
Overview: Mori Q is a Japanese restaurant in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, where you can enjoy a meal with your beloved dog on the covered outdoor terrace. The restaurant offers gentle-tasting Japanese cuisine made with carefully selected local vegetables, rice, and meat.
Located 2 km west of Karuizawa Station, Mori Q specializes in natural Japanese dishes that highlight the best ingredients sourced from Nagano and the surrounding areas. The restaurant also features a selection of local sake and wine from Nagano.
Dogs are welcome on the covered outdoor terrace, but not inside the restaurant. You can use the terrace even in rainy weather, but it may be difficult during strong winds, so please consult with the staff. The terrace is available year-round, but considering the cold in Karuizawa, the best times for dinner are from late April to mid-September, and for lunch, from March to October. Of course, with proper cold weather preparations, you can also visit during the winter months. Given its popularity, it’s essential to make a reservation early, not only for the dog-friendly outdoor seating but also for the indoor seating where dogs are not allowed. I visited in late September, and fortunately, I was able to make a reservation on the Friday before my Sunday evening visit. When I arrived, both the indoor and outdoor areas were fully booked.
On this day, I ordered a la carte dishes including grilled chicken salad, simmered mushrooms, simmered octopus, grilled Shinshu salmon, tsukune (chicken meatballs), and chirashi sushi (scattered sushi). The grilled chicken salad was a luxurious dish that allowed me to enjoy local chicken and vegetables together, and the dressing was delicious. The simmered mushrooms had a gentle flavor that truly highlighted their taste. The simmered octopus was tender all the way through, with excellent flavor and texture. The grilled Shinshu salmon was a must-try, with a perfect combination of the salmon's flavor and the marinade. The tsukune, made with local Shinshu herb chicken, was juicy and had a delightful coarse texture that made me want to eat more. The chirashi sushi was not only topped with high-quality sashimi but also had flavorful rice, making it a perfect ending to the meal. I didn’t order any alcohol since I was the designated driver, but the restaurant had a good selection of local sake that looked promising. Every dish I tried was very satisfying, and I look forward to trying their course meals and hot pot dishes on my next visit.
Additionally, my most recent experience was with their take-out bento (wappa bento). Since I ordered only two, they were able to accommodate my request on the same day. The bento was filled with delicious dishes and rice, making it a great option to take along while exploring the beautiful nature of Karuizawa.
If you’re looking for delicious Japanese cuisine in Karuizawa, I highly recommend this restaurant, whether you’re bringing your dog or not.
