I visited BON OKAWA Chocolate Factory located on the 1st floor of the Church Street Karuizawa in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture. It's about a 5-minute bus ride from JR Karuizawa Station via the Kusatsu Kanko Bus or the Kusakabe Transport Bus, stopping at the old Karuizawa bus stop, followed by a 3-minute walk. The facility has a shared paid parking lot with space for 70 cars, making it convenient for drivers.
Church Street Karuizawa is situated almost at the center of Old Karuizawa Ginza and is the only large shopping mall connecting Old Karuizawa Ginza to St. Paul Catholic Church. It features a diverse range of shops selling original goods and collaboration cafes. The second floor is a gourmet town with unique restaurants offering premium steaks grilled on Asama volcanic rock, Italian dishes using highland vegetables and local Shinshu ingredients that you can only find here.
This time, I purchased the Chocolate Ball featuring apple (JPY 600). It has macadamia nuts coated in rich chocolate, presented in a delightful, bite-sized form. The creamy sweetness of the white chocolate pairs beautifully with the tartness of the apple, making it delicious. I think it’s perfect as a souvenir or a small token of appreciation.
