【First Visit on August 7, 2025】
This restaurant is located in the Karuizawa Outlet, directly across from the south exit of Karuizawa Station.
On this day, I was returning home to Toyama after a four-day trip, planning to enjoy some food along the way. I left Toyama later than expected, and the beautiful streets of Takayama, which were celebrating the Tanabata Festival, delayed me even further. I intended to have dinner around Ueda, but timing didn’t work out, and by the time I passed through Karuizawa, it was already past 8 PM. I was concerned that I would only find chain restaurants open, so I decided to enter the outlet.
However, my assumption was naive; most restaurants had just closed their last orders. Fortunately, this restaurant accepted me after being turned away by others. At least I could satisfy my hunger—thank you!
As soon as I entered, I was informed that it was last call, so I had to order something quick. After some deliberation, I chose the "Yueji Hua Mixed Fried Rice," which was clearly marked with the restaurant's name.
It arrived in about 10 minutes! The large plate of mixed fried rice included ground meat, shrimp, egg, komatsuna, green onions, onions, and bell peppers. The rice was fluffy yet well-coated with oil! However, I realized it might have been a bit too much for me. I felt its weight after finishing.
While it was great when freshly made, I noticed that as it cooled, the texture became less appealing to me, and I started to lose interest. Ultimately, although the portion was large, the ingredients were cut too small, making it feel lacking. Paying JPY 1,518 without soup felt steep, likely due to tourist pricing.
I feel a bit guilty since they accepted me after being turned away from other places, but honestly, it just didn’t suit me in various ways.
It was a great meal.
