| Restaurant highlights |
A restaurant where you can enjoy a chef's special course featuring carefully selected ingredients and a selection of wines.
Le Bon Vivant Karuizawa is a Southern European cuisine restaurant that started as a bistro in 1999, branching out from its original location in Kichijoji, Tokyo. In 2012, it moved to Shiozawa Street in Karuizawa. During the summer, we focus on sourcing organic vegetables from our contracted farms and fresh seafood directly from producers in Hokkaido, Minamiboso, and Shinshu. We aim to provide dishes that nourish both the body and soul, surrounded by the beautiful nature of Karuizawa. |
Located along the street often referred to as "Gourmet Street," this restaurant features distinctive stone walls as its landmark.
Currently, it serves dinner only and operates on a reservation basis.
Chef Umeda, who previously worked at a renowned restaurant of the same name in Kichijoji, has opened this establishment in Karuizawa. His warm and friendly personality has attracted many regulars.
The menu consists of three courses ranging from JPY 8,800 to JPY 17,200, primarily offering an omakase experience tailored by the chef himself, featuring ingredients selected for their quality from around the world.
As it was my first visit, I opted for the JPY 8,800 course.
The appetizer, Jamón Serrano, was freshly sliced and melted beautifully on the tongue—absolutely exquisite.
Thanks to letting them know in advance about my aversion to duck, the main dish that day was beef.
The Aoyama pepper from Karuizawa added a delightful kick, allowing the dish to be light and not greasy at all.
The bread served was made with a special wheat called "Kita no Kaori," which had a delightful aroma and was delicious.
With stable service and delicious food, this is a restaurant I wish to cherish for years to come.
