In Karuizawa, I had previously thought there weren't any good hot springs, apart from places like Torobo no Yu and Senbon Takiyu. However, my impression completely changed after visiting Kose Onsen Hotel.
Although I had known about this place for a while, I had never visited due to its colorless, transparent water and the lack of day-use bathing options. After having dinner at Naz, I decided to stay overnight at a hot spring inn instead of the hotel, not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by the high-quality onsen!
The building has history, but both the rooms and lobby have been renovated, providing ample comfort and cleanliness. Besides the large public bath, there are also two private outdoor baths available, allowing guests to enjoy the serene beauty of old-fashioned Karuizawa. The bathroom in my room was a unit bath, but it was a genuine hot spring with natural hot spring water flowing into the bathtub.
The room came with tea and sweets from Obuse-do, featuring the delightful and smooth chestnut wagashi with a clean sweetness.
While there isn't a shop, there are products on display at the front desk for purchase.
The hot spring water is a colorless and transparent sodium bicarbonate spring (low-salinity, slightly alkaline, high-temperature), but it is a rare moor spring with a distinct oil scent. The texture is soft and slippery with fine bubbles; it's a beauty-enhancing bath!
The oil scent can be divisive; although I typically dislike stronger kinds, the scent here is just the right amount—pleasant and soothing.
There are two sources of natural hot spring water, with a temperature of 50.1°C and a pH of 8.0, using flowing spring water that is both diluted and unheated.
For the same price as the APA Hotel in front of Karuizawa Station, this exquisite onsen inn offers a much richer experience for a getaway in Karuizawa. While opinions may vary regarding meals, I'd definitely want to return for an overnight stay.
You don't have to go all the way to Kakurenoyu or Tengu Onsen; there are great hot springs right in Karuizawa!
A high-quality hot spring nestled in the forest with an alluring oil scent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Personally, my repeat desire level is ⭐️⭐️.
