Recently, I visited the "Shunsui Curry Kobo" for dinner while I was at the Karuizawa Shopping Plaza.
This place seems to be quite new, but I remember there used to be another curry shop in the same location when I visited before, which I had been to a few times.
It's located at number 24 in the New West area.
This restaurant specializes in curry and offers several different types. I chose to have my curry indoors this time, but there's an open terrace as well, which might give you a more refreshing experience on a sunny day.
You order your curry from a vending machine and then hand the ticket to the staff.
The atmosphere inside is quite nice, with several tables and a counter, making it a suitable place for solo diners as well.
This time, I tried the mushroom curry, and I found it interesting that you get to choose the level of spiciness at the ticket machine.
The options range from mild to extra spicy; I went for the spicy level, and even that was quite hot, so extra spicy might be overwhelmingly intense.
By the way, the tickets for spicy and extra spicy were combined...
As for the curry, it had a slightly sweet taste overall, combined with a hint of spiciness.
It was a delicious curry that perfectly balanced sweetness and heat.
In my opinion, it felt more like European-style curry or curry rice...
While there isn't anything particularly special about this curry, I believe it's a classic, comforting option.
If I could wish for something, I would love to be able to add beef or choose from several different ingredients, rather than just one type, even if it meant an increase in price...
Since I came all the way to Karuizawa to have curry, I can't help but feel that a lavish curry with a variety of ingredients would have been more satisfying...
