Located in a lumber yard southwest of Karuizawa, this is a well-known spot among the locals. Here, I use the wood chips for wintering my roses and preventing weeds. During peak times, I make several trips with a light truck to gather them.
These chips start to show their value around springtime the following year. In May, I notice the emergence of morels in my garden. They are a gourmet ingredient in French cuisine, but I still lack the confidence to harvest the morels growing in my own yard. While I find mushrooms to be daunting, I believe there’s nothing quite like morels.
