By Shinkansen: Take a taxi from Karuizawa Station and ask for "Kobayashi's Shop in front of the Shiotsubo Onsen Hotel entrance." The taxi drivers haven't memorized this long name yet. At this time of year, it takes about 15 minutes one way. Be aware that it will take more than 30 minutes in summer and high season. By car: Turn at the "Nakakaruizawa" intersection on National Route 17 and enter National Route 146. After passing the Hoshino area, you will see the entrance to Shiotsubo Onsen Hotel on your right. Fogliolina della Porta Fortuna. Italian cuisine.
This is Chef Kobayashi's restaurant, featuring a robust wooden interior. I enjoyed lunch on the summer-only terrace. Even in summer, it was pleasantly cool, creating a relaxed and open atmosphere. There are two courses available: JPY 3800 and JPY 8000, and I opted for the JPY 3800 fixed course.
The course included grilled vegetables from Karuizawa, seasoned simply with olive oil and garlic. The dish showcased a variety of flavors and textures, including bitterness, sweetness, and acidity. The seafood pasta featured mussels and clams, with a rich broth that was truly delicious. Additionally, I had coconut ice cream and a herbal tea with spices. Overall, it was simple yet satisfying cuisine.
