There are many famous soba restaurants around the Miyota area, such as Jiko no Ko, enishi, Kaoriya, Gensui, and Kikori. Although I was aware of this place, I hadn't had the chance to visit until now.
Finally, I made it here. I noticed a handwritten poster indicating a focus on the origin of the tororo (grated yam), so I decided to order the Tsuke Tororo Soba. The yam is sourced from Yamagata Village in Matsumoto.
The tororo is indeed delicious, reflecting their commitment to quality. However, the soba itself seems slightly inferior compared to other well-known restaurants in the area. On the plus side, the prices here are a bit lower than those of nearby establishments. The portion size also appears to be slightly larger than the standard servings at other famous places. Interestingly, it seems that they do not offer large sizes during the summer.
The tororo adds an extra JPY 400 to the price of the mori soba, but it's quite rare to find a place in Karuizawa where you can enjoy chilled tanuki soba for JPY 850. It seems like a good idea to take advantage of their reasonably priced menu for regular visits.
It was a great meal.
