Most places are small, family-run establishments styled like mountain lodges, often located in inconvenient areas through snowy roads in the middle of vacation home neighborhoods.
However, this cafe is conveniently located along the route from the Karuizawa Interchange to Karuizawa Station, making it easy to stop by.
I waited about 15 minutes in the parking lot before opening.
On Saturday at 8 AM, I entered right as they opened.
The interior is warm thanks to the fireplace; there's nothing quite like a direct flame on a chilly day.
I ordered the English scone.
As I warned the kids, "Stay away from the fireplace!" it was served in about 15 minutes.
After a tiring drive from Tokyo, the delicious scone and warmth of the coffee were a comforting delight.
