I visited this restaurant on a weekday in late June with a friend.
I ordered the cold tempura soba.
The soba was completely lacking in texture and had no chewiness; it crumbled apart in my mouth without even needing to bite it.
It was reminiscent of the homemade kneaded eraser we used to make as kids (though I've never actually eaten one).
The dipping sauce was extremely thin, to the point where I thought that store-bought versions were far tastier.
Naturally, with such weak dipping sauce, there was no sign of the traditional soba-yu to enjoy at the end.
This was the first time I ordered cold soba at a soba shop in Karuizawa and didn’t get any soba-yu.
As for the tempura, there was barely one shrimp, and it wasn’t particularly noteworthy.
My friend had a lunch set (like a Hamburger and Croquette Set Meal).
They also ate in silence, furrowing their brow slightly as they did.
