Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been four years since my last visit to this area. Until now, my preferred choice for Karuizawa has been the classic yet charming Manpei Hotel. However, this year I couldn't stay there due to renovations, so I reserved a night at this hotel nearby for the first time.
For dinner, we had a quick meal at the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza and stayed with a breakfast-inclusive plan.
We were a party of three: my wife, our 8-year-old granddaughter who is now on summer vacation, and myself. Although I am only evaluating the breakfast, we had the option to choose from three types, including the hotel’s signature French toast course, which my granddaughter selected. I opted for the classic egg-centered La Santé course, while my wife chose the vegetable-focused Healthy Continental course.
For drinks, we could choose one from milk, various soft drinks, juices, coffee, or tea. Both my wife and I chose coffee, while my granddaughter opted for juice.
Since breakfast is not buffet-style, we waited at our seats for the meals to be served. I got to taste the famous French toast, which was rich and delicious. The unique seasoning that accompanied it, made from finely chopped dried wine-related ingredients mixed with salt, was also tasty and good.
As for the courses we ordered, I found them to be fairly average in taste. The small variety of breads served in a basket, which could be enjoyed as is or warmed, was quite ordinary, including the croissants.
While the vegetables and dairy products were fresh and delicious, the overall impact felt a bit weak. Given the location and the price of an overnight stay, I felt it was somewhat on the high side personally.
Nevertheless, the entire facility was calm and left a good impression overall.
