I finally had the chance to visit this elusive curry shop, which is only open on Fridays and Sundays.
According to prior information, the prices for curry have increased by JPY 100, with toppings going up by JPY 50, but compared to Karuizawa prices, it's still a bargain.
The basic pork and chicken curries are JPY 900,
the fondue-style curry is JPY 1100, and
the higher-grade glass-de-bian is JPY 1400.
Toppings are uniformly priced at JPY 300 and include tonkatsu (pork cutlet), tori no karaage (fried chicken), kaki fry (fried oysters), mini omelet, and Ebi fry (fried shrimp).
A large serving of rice is an additional JPY 150, and an extra-large is JPY 300.
There are also kebab curry options available, and you can select the spice level for each curry.
The curry sauce is quite liquidy but packed with spices,
giving it a consistency that reminds me of a watered-down version of CoCo Ichibanya.
I ordered the pork curry with a large serving and tonkatsu topping,
my wife had the fondue curry, and
my son had the chicken curry.
The pork curry and chicken curry looked almost identical, so I don't have a picture of the chicken curry.
The pork in the pork curry didn’t taste like it had been cooked with the curry; instead, it seemed like three slices of pork were simply added on top.
I traded a piece of my son's chicken curry, and personally, I found it to be more flavorful.
I also got a taste of my wife's fondue curry, which was rich in flavor, and you could definitely notice the price difference.
If you’re looking for spicy curry, go for the chicken.
If your budget allows, the beef curry seems like a great choice.
Each of the chicken, pork, and beef curries has a simple presentation with potatoes on top,
and adding a small tonkatsu as a topping was definitely a good decision.
The salad also had a delicious dressing.
This is quite a popular place; I arrived just as it opened at 11 AM and there were already many customers.
They might open a little early if there are guests waiting.
It was a great meal!
