A house restaurant |
August 5th was my first day off in a week. I started the day by watching 'Mission: Impossible' and then went for lunch at 'Curry no Takumi'. I had heard from part-time staff that there’s a curry restaurant that operates only two days a week, so I searched it on Tabelog and decided to visit. Surprisingly, this place is open only on Fridays and Sundays, which is quite rare these days. Additionally, their hours are short, from 11 AM to 3 PM, which piqued my interest, leading me to visit without hesitation.
The exterior looks just like a regular house. There’s a parking lot for about 5 to 6 cars behind the restaurant. Upon entering, there's a shoe rack on the right, and you need to take off your shoes. There are about five counter seats in front, four tables that can seat four on the right, and a tatami room with four low tables, making it a rather cozy establishment. It seems to be family-run, and the owner’s wife welcomed me. As I settled into a counter seat, I noticed a curtain on the right that leads to the kitchen, where the aroma of curry filled the air.
I took a look at the menu. Since I prefer a little spice, I ordered the Spicy Curry with Pork in a large size, topped with a cutlet. After waiting for about 15 minutes, my meal was served, complete with a mini salad on the tray, and the portions were quite generous. The cutlet, priced at JPY 200, wasn’t too large, but it came with two types of potato fries.
Digging in, the curry had a soup-like consistency and was wonderfully seasoned with spices! It felt like a lot of effort went into simmering it. Paired with the turmeric rice, it was delicious! The cutlet was hot and crispy, making it a perfect match for the curry. I enjoyed the meal while sweating from the spices and finished it in no time.
During the meal, the owner came over to greet me; he was a friendly and approachable person. I couldn’t help but think of the saying, "Curry is a drink," from Uganda! Given that they’re open only on weekends, opportunities to visit are limited, but I definitely want to come back. It was a great meal!
