Enjoy izakaya dishes like grilled chicken skewers, special offal stew, and Shinshu horse sashimi!
A cozy izakaya that has been a local favorite in Karuizawa for 20 years. We offer delicious izakaya dishes at reasonable prices. Our popular menu includes grilled chicken skewers, special offal stew, and Shinshu horse sashimi, which have made us a hit with both tourists and regulars. |
I visit "Karuizawa" twice a month for business trips, and while there are many major and somewhat pricey restaurants around the Karuizawa Station and Old Karuizawa, the nearby "Nakakaruizawa" is filled with local vacation homes and many places popular with the locals. "Kashibami" is one such izakaya.
This was my third visit since my first last October. On my previous visits, I went around 7 PM, so the "counter seats," which only have about five or six spots, were filled. However, this time I arrived just before 6 PM, and it was already crowded with regulars. I wonder what time everyone typically comes?
I settled into the elevated tatami area and ordered a "Nama Chuu" (draft beer). At the same time, I ordered "Yakitori - Bara Niku Yaki (grilled meat skewers)", priced at 100 JPY each. They were wonderfully affordable with about double the amount of meat compared to the usual skewers, providing great satisfaction! The thick omelet was also refreshing with some grated daikon.
The owner was very friendly and approachable, while the matron had a more quiet demeanor, but the atmosphere was incredibly comfortable. Before I realized it, I had been drinking for over four hours.
I don’t have photos of it, but I also ordered a large serving of stir-fried vegetables and some simmered dishes. After switching to shochu and feeling a little tipsy, I checked the bill, and despite the considerable amount of food and drinks we had, it was less than 4,000 JPY per person—such a reasonable price for a tourist area! I highly recommend this place.
I plan to go again next month.
