About a 5-minute walk from Nakakaruizawa Station, this kaiseki restaurant has a facade that doesn't immediately give away its identity.
The restaurant is famous for its katsu curry, and some patrons travel from Tokyo just to try it.
When I ordered a non-alcoholic beer, I was pleasantly surprised with a side dish of simmered baby turban shell. It was delicious and really boosted my excitement.
After a short wait, the katsu curry was served, with the katsu submerged in curry and the rice served separately. It came as a set meal with miso soup and pickles.
The pork loin katsu was lightly coated and perfectly fried; the meat and batter were perfectly adhered, thanks to meticulous preparation and the right blend of flour.
The curry had a smooth consistency and surprisingly spicy flavor, offering a depth of taste that rivals that of specialized curry shops.
Naturally, the rice, miso soup, and pickles were also of high quality.
It's easy to see why people come here just for this. Honestly, I'd make the trip back to Nakakaruizawa just for this dish again!
