Cafe Patra to Retro Shokudo
I visited this unique restaurant located across from the Karuizawa City Hall.
The exterior is stunning!
Though there wasn't a noren (entrance curtain) displayed, I heard it was open, so I went inside.
And it was indeed open!
The interior, with its chairs, windows, and overall atmosphere, gives off a lovely Showa-era vibe that I adore!
An elderly lady welcomed me as I entered.
I took a seat at a table.
I hesitated between choosing a hearty cutlet dish or this place's specialty, the pork miso soup set meal, so I opted for the latter.
The tray arrived with rice, pork miso soup, and pickles.
Taking a sip of the soup, I noticed it had a subtle flavor.
There were a decent amount of ingredients in it.
The dashi and miso flavors came through, with the dashi being a bit more pronounced, resulting in a mild taste.
I was perhaps expecting something more impactful, so I was a little taken aback.
It was priced at JPY 450.
I wonder how the cutlet rice bowl or ramen would be?
But honestly, enjoying this atmosphere is what matters most.
It was a great meal.
