Beautiful view, A house restaurant |
At the end of the autumn holiday, I traveled to Karuizawa.
I had come across this café's Russian tea in a travel magazine, so after strolling around Kumoba Pond, I decided to stop by.
Upon entering the café, I was told, "Please take a seat wherever you like." The café had an equal mix of indoor and terrace seating. It was a hot day, but since the café was nestled among trees, the terrace seemed inviting and cool, so I chose to sit outside.
The staff brought us some water and the menu. The Russian tea was offered in three price ranges depending on the type of jam used. I ordered the "Russian Tea with Blueberry for JPY 900," while my companion chose the "Russian Tea with Apricot for JPY 800." I also heard that the café is famous for its sandwiches, so I ordered the "Hot Chicken Ham and Cheese Sandwich for JPY 900" as well.
After a while, both the Russian tea and the hot sandwich were served. The staff explained, "For the Russian tea, please enjoy the jam first, then take a sip of the tea." This was quite a novel approach, as we had expected to mix the jam into the tea.
Both cups of Russian tea tasted average. It seemed like the tea was brewed a bit stronger, possibly because of the jam pairing. The hot sandwich was delicious enough, quite satisfying overall.
