I stayed at The Prince Karuizawa, but I had already visited the hotel's restaurant for dinner the night before and learned that breakfast was Western-style. Therefore, I looked for a place to enjoy a Japanese breakfast and found this one at Karuizawa Prince Hotel West.
The portions were generous, leaving me very full—so much so that even after using up my energy skiing, I couldn't eat lunch afterward. You can choose between rice porridge (or white rice) and miso soup, both of which can be refilled.
However, the side dishes like grilled fish and tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) were cold, and since it was the cold season at the end of the year, I would have preferred them to be warm.
Additionally, there was only one staff member managing the spacious area, making it quite challenging to handle Japanese customers who left without paying and foreign tourists who joined mid-way for their meals. I think having a slightly larger staff would be more appropriate to accommodate the busy environment.
While The Prince Karuizawa offers a quiet atmosphere with Western food, the main restaurant at West has a buffet style that's noisy with families. For those looking to enjoy a peaceful Japanese breakfast even during the busy holiday season, I highly recommend this place.
