This is a French restaurant located in Hotel Marroad Karuizawa. We chose the reasonably priced Marroad for our stay. We utilized this restaurant for breakfast. We stayed on a breakfast-inclusive plan, but it’s also possible to enjoy breakfast only. The breakfast is priced at JPY 2530 (including tax and service), so I will evaluate based on that price.
During peak times, breakfast is served in a buffet style, while on regular days, guests can choose between "Western cuisine" or "Japanese cuisine." During our two-night stay, we opted for "Japanese cuisine" on the second morning and enjoyed the buffet on the third morning. Since the review of "Japanese cuisine" doesn't quite fit with "Lumiere," I will instead comment on my experience at "Hotel Marroad Karuizawa."
Here, I will focus on the breakfast buffet review.
The hotel boasts exceptionally attentive staff. The service in the dining area is impressive, allowing us to enjoy our breakfast comfortably. There are no terrace seats, but the breakfast venue is spacious, so I didn't feel cramped at all. Outside, the lush greenery of Karuizawa is beautiful. The buffet follows a style where guests wear vinyl gloves and use tongs to select their favorites.
The menu features a typical selection of both Western and Japanese breakfast items, including egg dishes, sausages, bacon, salads, fruits, granola, grilled fish, obanzai (small side dishes), porridge, and miso soup.
It can be described as a traditional breakfast buffet. While the variety isn't overwhelmingly extensive, the quality of each ingredient is excellent. I found the creamy yogurt so delightful that I went back for seconds.
Lately, many resort hotels have increased their breakfast prices, but this hotel offers a great cost-performance ratio, especially during the busy season in Karuizawa. It's conveniently located, and guests can also take advantage of the free shuttle service from the station.
