I've visited Karuizawa several times, but for some reason, I never had the chance to try Kastanie.
It seems to be a popular roast chicken restaurant, and I hadn't been able to eat there for several years.
This time, I was determined to try it, so I made a reservation for 16:15 before my visit.
Upon making the reservation, I noticed that they even specify the time for when you need to leave, as it’s a very popular place.
When I arrived, the entrance displayed that they were almost fully booked with reservations (laughs).
It seemed like staying for a long time wouldn’t be possible.
Once inside, I was surprised!
Even though there were no people on the street outside, the restaurant was already quite busy.
Looking at the menu, I saw that the roast chicken would take about 20 minutes, so I ordered it before my drinks to ensure I wouldn’t have to wait too long.
⚫︎ Warm Soy Milk Corn Soup
This was ordered by my gourmet partner.
Wow, it was unexpectedly delicious!
The roasted corn had a delightful crunch, and the soup was prepared like a cappuccino, making it quite authentic.
⚫︎ Salad with Highland Vegetables
Dressed with sweet and sour plum from a miso shop and salted koji.
The variety of beautiful vegetables was impressive!
The pink dressing had a nice balance of acidity and sweetness.
By the way, this dressing is available for purchase.
I’m sure my gourmet partner will want to try this (laughs).
⚫︎ Zenkoji Shichimi Miso and Onion Pizza
Wow, it arrived with the aroma of roasted onions.
It had a good kick to it, so it’s not suitable for kids (laughs).
The flavor of the miso combined with the spiciness was a great touch, and even though it was small, it made a strong impression.
⚫︎ Roast Chicken
I ordered a half portion, and it arrived quicker than I expected.
It was fragrant with herbs, juicy on its own, and perfectly seasoned.
Since half of it consists of breast meat and wings, I recommend getting a whole chicken if you’re really hungry.
I was a bit careless this time since I was with my gourmet partner.
But honestly, I highly recommend getting a whole chicken for yourself.
If you come to Karuizawa, this is definitely a place you want to visit! ✨
