Leaving behind the hustle and bustle of Karuizawa and driving just a bit into the forest, you'll come across the classical building of Manpei Hotel, seemingly untouched by the passage of time.
As I entered the restaurant through the time-honored entrance, my growing expectations were confirmed by the large stained glass depicting beautiful landscapes on the wall, making me grateful that I decided to come.
I opted for the French course meal. To be honest, experiencing the ambiance was my main goal, and I didn't have exceptionally high expectations for the taste, but it turned out to be genuinely delicious. Fortunately, the subtly seasoned dishes suited my family's preference for lighter flavors.
Some of my personal favorites included the mackerel in nanban style as an appetizer, the corn soup, the fried barracuda, and the roasted beef fillet.

The corn soup was delightful, showcasing the flavor of locally sourced corn without unnecessary additives. The fried barracuda had a crispy coating and tender flesh that was a perfect match. The beef fillet was enhanced by the mushroom sauce, bringing out its deliciousness beautifully!
Perhaps due to the busy crowd, the service was a bit swift, which caught my attention, but I wouldn't say the service was poor. For me personally, given the atmosphere, taste, and price, I felt completely satisfied.
