‘Exploring the Top 100 Restaurants on Tabelog in Karuizawa’ [No.3]
◇ Next stop in the Karuizawa area is ‘Chimoto Sohonten Karuizawa Main Store,’ part of the Top 100 Japanese Sweets & Snacks Shops!✨
◇ There are shops named ‘Chimoto’ in ‘Hakone’ and ‘Toritsu Daigaku’ as well, and it seems they all share the same roots. Although each is now independent, there are slight differences in ingredients.
[Nearest Station/Location]
◇ Approximately a 22-minute walk from ‘Karuizawa Station’ North Exit‼️
Located in the heart of the old Karuizawa shopping street.
[Parking]
◇ No dedicated parking available.
* The average rate for nearby coin parking is around ‘JPY 800-1000’ for a day!
[Visit Time/Days]
◇ I visited around 12:35 PM on a Saturday during the Obon holiday. The eat-in area was fully occupied with over 10 people waiting.
The take-out service was available and I could purchase without any wait!✨
[Seating & Purchase Method]
◇ There appeared to be around 20 seats available for dining. Orders for take-out could be made at the counter located on the right side inside the store.
[Ordered Item]
◇ ‘Chimoto Mochi (JPY 260 incl. tax)’
[Impressions of the Japanese Confectionery]
◇ The main sweet, ‘Chimoto Mochi,’ offers an enjoyable texture. It’s surprisingly soft, so airy yet still takes shape!‼️
It felt more similar to the ‘Yakumo Mochi’ from ‘Toritsu Daigaku’ than the ‘Yumochi’ from ‘Hakone.’ With walnuts included, the aroma is wonderful!✨
[Notes]
◇ ‘Chimoto’ stores are incredibly popular wherever you go. The Toritsu Daigaku location often sells out by the afternoon, but at the Karuizawa branch, it seems the ‘Chimoto Mochi’ remains available as more customers prefer to dine in!‼️
◇ I think dining in during ‘summer vacations’ or on ‘weekends’ will likely lead to long lines. On the other hand, the take-out service was smooth, so it might be a great idea to consider it as a souvenir from Karuizawa!
