Le Premier Cafe Shinsaibashi Honten

Le Premier Cafe Shinsaibashi Honten is on the third floor of a building along Unagidani Minami-dori, about a 5-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station. This cafe serves specialty coffee.

Inside, the space has a retro feel with antique style furniture, and it offers a calm setting where you can forget the noise of the city.

They offer around 10 kinds of single-origin coffee. Since they stay open late into the night, you can also enjoy hot cocktails like Irish Coffee made with Irish whiskey.

The photo shows the popular “Cake Set,” a good value option that lets you enjoy your favorite cake and drink together.

For the "Cake Set," you can also choose two cakes and have half of each. It’s a nice option for people who want to try a variety of flavors.

The photo shows the "Chocolate Cake," said to be as smooth as a terrine, and the "Purin Cake," with two layers of purin (custard pudding) and sponge cake.

The coffee had its bitterness toned down, so it was very easy to drink. It also paired well with the cake. This retro-style kissaten (Japanese cafe) had a nice atmosphere and felt very relaxing! There were also plenty of counter seats, so I think it would be easy to stop by even on your own.

The hand-drip coffee has a rich body with a clean finish, and it pairs perfectly with the sweets. The purin cake (custard pudding cake) has a deep egg richness, with an excellent balance of smooth texture and fragrant caramel. It was the kind of place where you can relax in a calm setting, perfect for a grown-up café break.

Danke Shinsaibashi

Danke Shinsaibashi is a cafe tucked away on the second floor of a building along Unagidani Higashi-dori, a 2-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station.

Open the solid wooden door, and you will find a retro space inside. The interior also has a wood-grain design, with both counter and table seating. It is said to be a quiet, relaxing place where you can unwind at your own pace.

A key feature here is the chance to enjoy Butter Blend Coffee, made with a unique blending method that lets butter soak into the beans during roasting. They carefully brew each cup only after an order comes in.

The many cups lined up at the back of the counter seats also create a retro and elegant atmosphere.

The popular "Cake Set" lets you enjoy cake and a drink together. The photo shows the "Chiffon Cake," a chocolate chiffon cake coated with fresh cream.

They also offer a rich "Cheesecake" and a moist, mildly sweet "Chocolate Cake."

When I walked in, the place had a retro atmosphere like something out of a picture book, with a calm feel that made it seem like I could relax there for hours. They had several kinds of coffee to choose from, and it was light and tasty. It looks like they also sell coffee beans, so I might buy some next time if the mood strikes me!

But isn’t the real draw of the coffee here butter coffee? It was a mellow coffee that would be easy for anyone to enjoy. I think it’s better not to add milk. You can catch a faint butter aroma too. In keeping with the retro kissaten (Japanese coffee house) style, they only accepted cash. I was glad we could sit and chat at a relaxed pace.

Jun-kissa (traditional Japanese coffee shop) American

Jun-kissa American is a historic cafe founded in 1946. The two-story interior is said to be full of retro charm that feels like stepping back in time, with a grand chandelier and spiral staircase that leave a strong impression.

It is located in Sennichimae Shotengai (Sennichimae Shopping Street), about a 10-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station.

One of the big draws is the wide selection of sweets, including cakes and parfaits.

The photo shows their signature Pancake. It comes with syrup, but the lightly sweet batter is well soaked with butter, so it is said to taste plenty good even on its own.

The firm, retro-style “custard pudding” is also popular. The caramel sauce has a slight bitterness, giving it a grown-up flavor. They also offer a slightly better-value “custard pudding set,” which you can enjoy with a drink chosen from 5 varieties.

The coffee is roasted in-house. It is said to be easy to drink and delicious.

From the entrance, the Showa-retro (retro Showa-era) atmosphere really builds your excitement. This has to be pudding! I couldn't decide between the pudding sundae and the à la mode, but I wanted ice cream more than fruit, so I went with the sundae. The vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce had that nostalgic taste of what I used to eat at coffee shops as a kid. The pudding was firm and delicious too.

うまゐ飯が食ゐたい。

I ordered a cream soda and purin a la mode (Japanese pudding sundae). They are picture-perfect and so cute, just looking at them is fun!!!Of course, they taste great too, and the purin a la mode comes topped with lots of different fruits, so it is very satisfying. You can enjoy good food in a lovely space!

The interior, with table seating, is said to have a retro space with a woody and oriental feel. It also has a lush green terrace.

They also offer a wide variety of sweets and drinks, so you can also stop by casually for a cafe visit.

The photo shows the chiffon cake with ice cream, said to be light and delicious. The fruit is apparently caramelized. If you order a drink with it, you can enjoy it at a better price.

ぎゅうのカレーな冒険

The interior has a retro look, but it feels clean and relaxed. The staff are kind, and time seems to pass at an easy pace here. The little frogs here and there are cute too. The curry, said to be made from a secret recipe simmered for 100 hours, is Surprisingly rich and so full of flavor that words cannot describe it......

・Hiyashi-ame (chilled ginger malt drink)
This was my first time trying hiyashi-ame as a frappe. It was topped with black sesame kinako (roasted soybean flour) cream, shiratama (glutinous rice dumplings), and a cherry. The gentle, nostalgic sweetness had a nice little kick of ginger. The icy texture made it refreshing and tasty on a hot day.

This Green Tea Latte Presso was a cup where matcha (powdered green tea) aroma gently spread out, with the depth of matcha and the mildness of milk in perfect harmony. The balance of bitterness and sweetness was good, making it just right to savor slowly in a calm space.

They brew their coffee with a siphon. The coffee in the photo is the "blend coffee," which is said to have a pleasant acidity and great flavor.

Both sweets and food are available at a slight discount when ordered with a drink.

のぎささ

A retro kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) inside a building that is about 70 years old. The pudding here is very much my kind of dessert. At first I expected a firm old-school pudding, but it was slightly softer, with just the right melt-in-your-mouth texture. It was also nice that it came with banana, muscat grapes, and other fruit on the side. The mixed juice was good too.

・Ganso Osaka Meibutsu Fuwa Toro Tamago Sando (the original Osaka specialty fluffy and melty egg sandwich)
The bread is soft and fluffy, the egg is delicate and jiggly, and the tomato and cucumber add color for a look that is just as good as the taste. It also paired really well with the rich mixed juice, another Kansai specialty, and was very tasty.

A Showa retro jun-kissa (traditional Japanese coffeehouse) with a boat motif. It is very charming. I shared the cheese toast and the potato and curry open faced toast with a friend. Both were delicious. I especially liked the curry on the potato and curry open faced toast because it was so good.

I really love the cream anmitsu (Japanese dessert with agar jelly and sweet toppings) here〜. It was the first anmitsu I ever had in my life, and you can choose the type of ice cream, the anko (sweet red bean paste) is not too sweet, and it comes with just the right amount of fruit, so it is perfect for changing up the flavor…! Also, the shiratama (soft chewy rice dumplings) are super chewy…!! I also appreciate that it comes with tea.

The photo shows the "Fruit x Cream Cheese," made with cream cheese so it is not too sweet and easy to finish in one go.

The photo shows a cream soda topped with ice cream that is as fun to look at as it is to drink. It comes in two flavors: melon, with a taste that somehow stays with you, and refreshing passion fruit.

林檎の食べ歩き

The interior has a retro feel, and I personally really like the atmosphere here! They actually play music on records! There was even a short stretch of silence when a record ended, too (lol). The fruit sandwich has plenty of strawberry cream and strawberries, too! The bread is just the right thickness like this!

ぼっち子

An old-school retro kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop). They have a wide variety of bread dishes. The coffee is made with a siphon brewer. It was really good. I had the toast mixed sandwich and hot coffee for lunch. It said egg and ham, but it also came with lettuce and tomato, plus potato salad on the side, so it felt quite substantial.

月のメシ日記

An old school cafe. I went at 16:00, which was a bit late, so there were only a few kinds of cake left. Out of those, I ordered the "ichigo (strawberry) cream puff cake." I had never had a cake made with choux pastry before, and it was even better than I expected. I also like chocolate, so I was happy it came on top. At this price, it also comes with a drink, so it is easy on the wallet. I want to go again.
