Dogo no Machiya is a retro cafe renovated from a building dating back to the 1920s.
Inside, there are tatami seating areas, creating a space that feels perfect for resting after a walk around town. It is a great choice when you want to relax and take in the beautiful garden at an easy pace!
These local-style hamburgers packed with the bounty of Setouchi are popular.
The "Sea Bream Cutlet Burger" is a popular item made with fresh Sea Bream caught in the Seto Inland Sea, fried and sandwiched with Sea Bream stock sauce and homemade tartar sauce. It also comes as a set with soup and a drink.

At cafe time, you can enjoy a menu that includes Homemade cakes and hand-drip coffee.
Along with the standard cakes, they also offer seasonal cakes. The seasonal limited "lemon tart" is said to spread with the fresh aroma of lemons from Ehime Prefecture with one bite.

I ordered the Breakfast set with a Sea Bream cutlet burger. The cutlet and the flavor of the Sea Bream work really well together. Since the filling is Sea Bream, it is a cutlet but does not feel too heavy. It also comes with a salad and a soup packed with vegetables, so the whole meal feels healthy.

I ordered the Breakfast set. The coffee was the house blend. After waiting a few minutes while sipping my coffee, the sandwich arrived. The sandwich had plenty of cheese, which was just the kind of flavor I like. It was also nice for breakfast that it came with lots of vegetables.

Fruit Parlor Mishima in Matsuyama is a retro cafe founded in 1927.
Fresh seasonal fruits are lined up at the storefront, and there is a cafe space in the back. With its casual atmosphere, it is an easy place for first-time visitors to stop by.

Parfaits made with seasonal fruits unique to Ehime are popular.
The lineup features the most delicious fruits of the moment, such as strawberries, peaches, and mangoes. The "Setoka parfait" in the photo is a luxurious dish with an assortment of fresh Setoka (citrus), soft serve made from fresh milk, and mikan sherbet.
Photograph:食いしん坊のんち
The lunch menu includes pasta, curry, sandwiches, and more.
The "Avocado and Shrimp Sandwich" is said to be very satisfying, with avocado that melts in your mouth and shrimp with a plump, springy texture.
yukik618
I ordered the setoka (citrus) sandwich and the strawberry parfait. The setoka was more expensive than the strawberry sandwich. The setoka was very delicious. I bought and compared lots of mikan (mandarins) in Ehime, and it is one of my favorite varieties.

What’s great about the fruit sandwich is that it doesn’t have banana in it. Usually places use banana to pad it out. And the mikan (mandarin orange) isn’t canned either, which is just what you’d expect from Ehime. The parfait also looked really good, but I was too full and had to pass. Since it’s in a shopping street geared mainly toward tourists, I recommend stopping by during a break from sightseeing.

Miyoshino is a retro cafe founded in 1949.
Inside, the place has the atmosphere of a traditional Matsuyama-style sweets shop, and the compact space of about 10 seats is said to always have a lively feel.
This is the specialty item, “Goshiki ohagi (five-color ohagi).”
There are five varieties—koshi-an (smooth red bean paste), tsubu-an (chunky red bean paste), sesame, nori (seaweed), and kinako (roasted soybean flour)—and each one offers a different sweetness and aroma. The gentle sweetness of the house-made bean paste pairs well with the soft, plump texture of the glutinous rice, making for a simple taste you never get tired of.
Photograph:ハナヨリダンゴ
Alongside the popular “Goshiki Ohagi,” the “zenzai (sweet red bean soup)” is also a favorite, made with elegant house-made sweet bean paste and plump simmered azuki beans that spread their flavor with every bite.
It is said to taste even better when eaten with the nicely grilled mochi. Another nice touch is the separately served tsukudani of kombu kelp, which refreshes your palate.

When you order ohagi (sweet rice balls), it is served right away with tea. The ohagi comes in five varieties: kinako (roasted soybean flour), aonori (green laver), sesame, tsubuan (chunky red bean paste), and koshian (smooth red bean paste). Each one has its own character and tastes great. The strong tea goes very well with the ohagi, and I got a refill.

ドリンクオアダイ
I ordered ohagi (sweet rice balls) and Uji-gori (Uji-style shaved ice). The ohagi had a clean, gentle sweetness that made them easy to keep eating. I was especially impressed by the balance of aroma and sweetness in the aonori. Koshian (smooth red bean paste), tsubuan (chunky red bean paste), goma (sesame), kinako (roasted soybean flour), and aonori (green laver). Thinking about what order to eat them in makes for a wonderfully fun dilemma. The Uji-gori also had a grown-up flavor with restrained sweetness.

Ankara An is a retro cafe on the second floor of a building facing Nibancho-dori in Matsuyama.

The “wagashi set (Japanese sweets set)” comes in several options, including “ohagi (sweet rice ball with red bean paste)” and “agemitarashi (fried rice cake with sweet soy glaze).”
The “ankoromochi (rice cakes with sweet red bean paste)” in the photo is packed with chunky red bean paste. People praise the chewy texture of the mochi and its smooth, melty mouthfeel. The balance between the refined sweetness of the azuki beans and the slight bitterness of the matcha is said to be just right.

Besides classics like matcha kintoki (green tea with sweet red beans) and ume (plum), they also offer a wide lineup of shaved ice, including flavors like coffee caramel.
The "budou (grape)" is said to use a house-made syrup packed with grapes as its base, topped with pieces of Shine Muscat grapes.

It seems the ice cream, dango (rice dumplings), and kanten (agar jelly) are also Homemade in the shop. I was happy they served hot green tea instead of cold water. The iyokan (Japanese citrus) shaved ice was delicious!

I had the matcha anmitsu (agar jelly dessert with sweet toppings). The kanten (agar jelly) was delicious! The matcha syrup was great too! The balance between the rolled koshian (smooth red bean paste) and the tsubuan (chunky red bean paste) poured over the whole dessert was perfect! The shibukawa-guri (sweet chestnut simmered in its inner skin) was also big, fluffy, and tasty.

I ordered the classic pudding à la mode. It came with plenty of fruit and ice cream on the pudding. This was exactly what I wanted! The pudding à la mode! The slightly firm pudding had a nostalgic feel and tasted great. The fruit was arranged in a colorful assortment too, so it looked cute as well.

At first glance, it looks like a long-established kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop), but once inside, I spent a happy hour at this very stylish café, with tasteful decor and an equally refined menu. From the window, Dogo Onsen Station comes right into view in front of you. I enjoyed the tiramisu and a crème brûlée latte. They both tasted very nice.

I stopped by after visiting Matsuyama-jo (Matsuyama Castle). I was a little tired, so I ordered the Anmitsu Hime. It looked like a pretty standard anmitsu, but instead of kanten (agar jelly), it used coffee jelly. The slightly bitter coffee jelly was tasty.
