[Okinawa Prefecture, Naha City] Shops with delicious kakigori (shaved ice)
Photograph:Mr.tetten
Naha City is packed with sightseeing spots such as Shurijo (Shuri Castle) and Kokusai-dori (Kokusai Street). One shaved ice shop in Naha City is Fujiya Tomari Honten.
The shop is an 8-minute walk from Miebashi Station on the Yui Rail. It also offers convenient access to Tomarin.
Photograph:takahiro514
The photo shows the signature menu item, Fujiya Zenzai. The shaved ice, made by freezing the cooking liquid from the beans, has a clean sweetness and is said to be very easy to eat.
The special insulated tumbler with the shop's logo looks stylish. You can also choose matcha flavor or brown sugar flavor.
Photograph:VUCHYOO
"Ryukyu Mancha Ice" is a loaded ice cream dessert topped with beni-imo (purple sweet potato) chips, shiratama (glutinous rice dumplings), and kintoki-mame (sweet red beans).
The rich sweetness of the ice cream is said to pair perfectly with the texture of the toppings. You can also eat taco rice and Okinawa soba (Okinawan noodles).

It was February, but the day was warm, so I had zenzai (sweet red bean soup). The azuki beans had just the right sweetness, the shiratama dumplings were nice and chewy, and the shaved ice came in an insulated cup so it would not melt easily, which was good! The salty rice cracker served on the side was a nice touch.

The zenzai (sweet red bean soup) here was shockingly good!! The beans were soft and chewy, and since the ice was made with the bean cooking liquid, it stayed gently sweet and tasty to the very last bite♡The small shiratama (glutinous rice dumplings) were just right too, and I loved the salty touch from the Kogame Senbei (small turtle rice cracker)(*^^*)

This shaved ice shop is an 8-minute walk from Yui Rail Asahibashi Station. Its interior has a nostalgic feel, and the atmosphere is very homey.
In addition to shaved ice such as “ice zenzai (sweet red bean dessert with ice)” and “strawberry milk shaved ice,” you can also enjoy taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry with filling) and imagawayaki (filled round pancake).
Photograph:DewDrop
The photo shows the “matcha zenzai (sweet red bean soup with matcha).” The matcha shaved ice has a powdery, fluffy texture, and people say you can enjoy its smooth mouthfeel.
There was also a review saying that the bottom of the bowl was packed with lots of kintoki-mame (kidney beans), making it very filling.
Photograph:chiichan39
The photo shows “ichigo milk kintoki (strawberry milk shaved ice with sweet red beans).” The plenty of condensed milk and strawberry syrup on top are said to be mildly sweet, so you can keep eating it with ease.
The tall kakigori (shaved ice) has a volume that naturally catches your eye.

I ordered the classic shaved ice, milk kintoki (shaved ice with milk and sweet azuki beans). Payment is made in cash when ordering. The way the ice melts on the first bite is really nice. The sweet kintoki bean paste is one of a kind for me. The bean paste was so good that I bought an extra taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) as well.

I couldn't decide between the zenzai and this, so I went with the matcha zenzai. 800円. It came out and it was Surprising: shaved ice was piled on top in a medium-sized bowl. Huge...。。At the bottom was zenzai (sweet red bean soup with azuki beans), topped with an enormous amount of fluffy shaved ice with no syrup, and matcha powder on the surface. It tasted more grown-up than I expected, refreshing and delicious.

This is a Hawaiian fruit cafe tucked away in an alley off Kokusai-dori, a 7-minute walk from Yui Rail Makishi Station and Miebashi Station.
The interior, based around white tones, brings to mind a tropical resort. You can feel the attention to detail in every corner, and it is very stylish.

The shaved ice at "the Sea" uses fuwafuwa kaigori (fluffy sea ice), made with seawater from Okinawa. It has a light salty note, with a nice balance of sweetness and tartness.
Their custom kakigori (shaved ice), made by combining puree, cream, fruit, and toppings, is popular.
The photo shows the Aloha Bowl (acai bowl), where you can enjoy fruit and superfoods. The six fruit flavors you can choose from use no artificial coloring.
The colorful fruit makes it look bright and eye-catching, with a presentation that makes you want to take a photo.

The kakigori (shaved ice) had a surprisingly light melt-in-your-mouth feel with a soft, fluffy texture. A faint salty note (seawater) brought out the sweetness of the fruit, and mixed with the espuma, it stayed enjoyable to the very last bite. The purees of mango and other fruits were rich too, giving it a tropical taste.

I had the custom kakigori (shaved ice) and the limited-time island bowl. I came for the kakigori, but the photos looked so good that I ended up getting two. The fruit was fresh, and both were very delicious!

"Okinawa zenzai (Okinawan sweet red bean dessert)," made with sweetly simmered kintoki-mame (scarlet runner beans) and shiratama (rice flour dumplings) topped with shaved ice, is an Okinawan soul food. Hoshi no Shizuku is a specialty shop dedicated to this Okinawa zenzai.
It is located a 10-minute walk from Yui Rail Makishi Station.

They use plenty of Okinawa Prefecture specialties, including natural ice from the northern part of Okinawa Honto (Okinawa Main Island) and beni-imo (purple sweet potato). The photo shows the "Shima Ichigo Milk Tea Brown Sugar Zenzai."
The sauce made with shima ichigo (island strawberries) is said to bring out the sweetness and richness of the milk tea, which is brewed with milk from Ishigaki Nyugyu (Ishigaki dairy cattle).
Photograph:新人グルメ
The "Omatcha Set," which lets you enjoy your favorite kakigori (shaved ice) and matcha (powdered green tea), is popular. The gently warm matcha adds a nice contrast to the cold kakigori, and people say it keeps the flavor interesting all the way to the last bite.
They also offer a set with their homemade "Beni-imo Mochi Zenzai," made with beni-imo (purple sweet potato) kneaded into the mochi.

I had the recommended Okinawa ichigo (strawberry)... It was not just good-looking, but really tasty too. There were other menu items I was torn over, so now I want to try those as well. The quality was very high. It is also within walking distance of Kokusai-dori (Kokusai Street), so it is worth a visit!

I decided to order the dragon fruit flavor. The moment it arrived at the table, I was so taken by how beautiful it was that I just stared at it. It was already like a work of art. It felt like looking at some kind of object. The instant I took a bite, it was so good that I found myself wondering, "Was dragon fruit always this delicious?"

[Okinawa Prefecture, Nakagami District] Shops with delicious kakigori (shaved ice)
Photograph:masat98334
Nakagami District in Okinawa Prefecture offers American-style streetscapes and beautiful ocean views. One shaved ice shop in Nakagami District is Koori Wo Kisame.
It is located 4 minutes by car from Mihama American Village.
Photograph:カフェモカ男
The kakigori (shaved ice) at Koori wo Kizame is known for being very fine and fluffy, with a softness that melts smoothly in your mouth. The marbled pattern of the sauce and cream is beautiful, too.
Inside, guests take off their shoes before coming in, and some reviews said that makes it easy to relax and enjoy the kakigori.
Popular choices include the "Yujufudan no 2-shu assortment," which lets you enjoy multiple flavors at once, and the "Yokubo no 3-shu assortment." The flavor soaks all the way through, so every bite tastes great.
They stop serving it once they run out of ice, so visiting early is recommended.
ふるふるななこ
It’s also nice that you can take off your shoes. Once you decide on your order, you write it on paper to place it. I went with the "Yujufudan no 2-shu assortment," choosing burnt caramel and tiramisu, and waited with genuine excitement in my heart♡As expected, it was delicious. The crisp chocolate hidden in the tiramisu, and the perfect slight bitterness of the burnt caramel

One very appealing point is that you can choose the sauce in half-and-half on the delicate shaved ice. Since the three of us each picked different ones, we got to enjoy 6 kinds in total. It is a little way out from Naha (Naha), but many customers clearly come here just for this place, which shows how popular it is.

This shaved ice shop is a 10-minute walk from Zakimi Castle Ruins, a historic site of the Ryukyu Kingdom and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Inside, old-fashioned shaved ice machines and miscellaneous goods are on display, and you can spend a relaxing time in a nostalgic atmosphere.

The photo shows the signature menu item, “Ryukyu zenzai (Okinawan-style sweet red bean dessert).” It uses shaved ice made with mineral water and carefully simmered kintoki-mame (kidney beans).
The gentle sweetness of the kintoki-mame is said to go very well with the soft, fluffy shaved ice.
The photo shows the “Mangoron,” packed with chunky mango pieces. Its sweet and tangy mango flavor is just right when you want something to cool down your overheated body.
There were also reviews saying that the shaved ice and “Ryukyu zenzai (Okinawan sweet red bean dessert)” are available for Takeout.

The place has a look that makes you feel its history, and the atmosphere is great◎I had zenzai (sweet red bean dessert), kinzan (kinako soybean flour, kuromitsu brown sugar syrup), and mango. They were all refreshing and good. The beans in Okinawa zenzai (sweet red bean dessert) are not azuki beans but kintoki-mame (scarlet runner beans), which are slightly larger. They were delicious.

Rows of cute Showa retro trinkets welcome you. In addition to simple Ryukyu zenzai (Okinawan sweet red bean dessert), they also had arranged versions and regular kakigori (shaved ice). While waiting for the zenzai and while eating it, brief as it was, I could soak in a feeling like I was in another world or a dream.

The kakigori (shaved ice) menu offers a wide variety, from classics to original creations like "Today's Special."
The photo shows the "Okinawa dragon fruit yogurt & tankan (citrus)." It has a nice balance of sweetness and tartness, and even though it is generous in size, it does not get old.

The shop’s parfaits are said to let you directly enjoy the smooth mouthfeel of the soft serve and the great taste of the fruit.
Both the shaved ice and parfaits have beautifully vibrant sauces, giving them a very striking look.

The ice is the kind that melts right away, like powder snow. The sauce is rich yet refreshing dragon fruit. As you keep eating, it hides a clean tasting sauce of ponkan (Japanese citrus) and yogurt inside. The mango parfait pairs mango sauce and soft serve really well.

What you can enjoy at this shop is its original kakigori (shaved ice), made with a blend of milk and condensed milk. Its smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture and addictive taste have earned high praise in reviews.
They offer a wide variety of options, including tropical fruits and the shop's own original flavors.

The photo shows “tiramisu kakigori (shaved ice).” The chocolate topping has a deep richness, giving it a full, rich taste.
A nice point about the “selectable drink set” is that you can choose not only fruit juice but also coffee and other drinks.

What we ordered was the ichigo (strawberry) M size. The ice itself was like milk ice, and the shiratama (glutinous rice dumplings) on top were a nice touch too. Since we had it after the meal, sharing it with the family was just right, and the portion was quite large. The shop interior also had good taste and felt nice.

I was amazed by the kakigori (shaved ice) here. The ice itself is made with milk, and it is incredibly light and smooth. The mangosteen syrup is also so good. I think even people who do not usually eat kakigori will definitely like this.

Because it is very filling, it is best shared by a few people.

The photo shows kuromitsu kinako zenzai (sweet red bean soup with roasted soybean flour and brown sugar syrup). The kinako (roasted soybean flour) and kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) go perfectly together, making it hard to resist for fans of Japanese style sweets.
They also offer the "Half & Half Zenzai," where you can enjoy two kinds of flavors, as well as smoothies made with Okinawan ingredients.

First, the way they shave the ice and shape it is art. Then they top it with pineapple, strawberry, mango, and passion fruit in an assortment. I watched thinking, no way, it’s going to spill over, but they finished the plating beautifully. The taste was just as happy as it looked.

This shaved ice shop is in the nature-rich Kunigami Village area, home to the Sekai Shizen Isan (World Natural Heritage) site Yanbaru no Mori (Yanbaru Forest). The interior features wood-based decor and has a cozy, homey feel.
Many people also stop by on the way to Churaumi Suizokukan (Churaumi Aquarium), according to reviews.
The menu at Arakaki Zenzai-ya offers just one item: koori-zenzai (shaved ice with sweet kintoki beans), made with kintoki beans and shaved ice. The ordering style is simple: buy meal tickets for the number of people in your group, then place your order.
A pile of shaved ice sits on top of the sweet simmered kintoki beans, so it is best to eat them together.

This kakigori (shaved ice) has a traditional texture with a slight chew, and it pairs perfectly with the richly seasoned kintoki-mame (sweet red beans).
Some reviews say it comes with plenty of kintoki-mame and is filling. Takeout is also available.

Sweetly simmered kintoki-mame (scarlet runner beans). The soft aroma of the beans and kokuto (brown sugar) gently comes through. Eaten with the ice, it softens both the sweetness and the heat, making it irresistibly delicious with a very gentle flavor.

At first glance, the zenzai (sweet red bean dessert) that came out looked pure white, almost like nothing but ice, but underneath were well simmered kintoki-mame (kintoki beans)~. The fairly large kintoki-mame were cooked with a gentle sweetness, and when eaten together with the ice, the ice softly melted away and tasted great~.
