Karendo

Karendo is a retro cafe tucked away in a narrow back alley, about a 3-minute walk from Chofu Station.

The cozy interior has a total of 18 seats and a comfortable wood toned design, and this popular spot often draws lines of people coming for its signature curry.

The "Keema Omurice" is a dish of fluffy omelet over rice, topped with smooth keema curry. The spicy aroma really whets the appetite.

The omelet balances out the heat of the curry, giving it a mild taste. The sweet and sour pickled onions on the side also pair well with the curry.

The "curry udon (curry wheat noodles)" comes with a slightly thickened soup, topped with plenty of sesame seeds, sakura ebi (small dried cherry shrimp), and nori (seaweed).

The spice level is mild, and the rich flavor brings together Japanese style dashi broth with a nice kick of ginger. It also comes with rice, so many people seem to enjoy it like soup curry.

Udon noodles simmered in curry soup. It comes topped with plenty of sakura ebi (small dried shrimp), nori (seaweed), and sesame seeds. Built on a Japanese style bonito flake broth, it has a gentle spice aroma, and even though it is not spicy, it warms you up from the inside. It also comes with a small serving of rice, which was tasty with the curry soup poured over it.

I ordered the Omustyle keema curry in a Large size, which I had been wanting to try for a long time. The portion was bigger than I had imagined, and it was Surprising, but the spice-forward curry kept my appetite going, and the side salad and onions softened the heat, so I finished it in no time. This quality at this price was impressive.

Recumes des Jours

Lecume des Jours is a retro cafe and bar on the second floor of a three-story building, about a 5-minute walk south along Harmony Road from Sengawa Station on the Keio Line.

Inside, the space is quiet, with retro decor, dim lighting, books, jazz, and houseplants all around. During the day, you can enjoy the cafe menu, and at night, drinks are available.

You can enjoy cafe menu items such as coffee, cake, and parfaits. The menu changes with the seasons.

The blended coffee is made with an authentic nel drip (cloth drip) method. You can choose between the deeply bitter dark roast and the mild medium roast. It seems they also offer a blend available only at night.

They also offer meal dishes such as stew and homemade meat sauce.

The photo shows the “Seasonal White Stew.” It was said to have a rich taste, packed with shrimp, spring vegetables, and potatoes. The ingredients in the stew change with the season.

The coffee served in about 10 minutes, Recum (coffee), was filled right up to the brim in the cup and had a deep flavor with a level of bitterness you do not find in many other places! I personally loved that. It also goes perfectly with the pudding topped with plenty of cream.

The only way to describe it is amazing. This cafe is also open at night. Surrounded by books, flowers, and wood, slowly sipping a cafe au lait, this is exactly the kind of night I had been looking for. It makes me feel glad to be alive (Midnight Highway). The evening blend is smoky and distinctive. This is a cafe I want to visit with someone important to me.

Tegamisha

Tegamisha is a retro cafe about a 10-minute walk from Tsutsujigaoka Station on the Keio Line, where you can spend time at a relaxed pace.

Right in front is Jindai Danchi Suribachi Koen, surrounded by a retro housing complex and big trees. You can take your time enjoying the cafe menu inside, surrounded by books, or out on the terrace seats.

The "lu rou fan (Taiwanese braised pork rice)" is known for its slightly sweet seasoning with the aroma of exotic spices, and people say the tender simmered pork is made even tastier by the rich umami of thick shiitake mushrooms.

The salad dressing, with its fairly strong acidity, also adds a nice accent. You can also get it for Takeout and enjoy it on the terrace seats.

The “kisetsu no purin a la mode (seasonal pudding à la mode)” is a bright and pretty dessert topped with seasonal fruit and ice cream. The footed glass gives it a retro feel.

The pudding has a firm yet smooth texture. It is said to have a rich flavor, with the bitterness and toasty notes of the caramel standing out.

The luroufan (braised pork rice) has a slightly sweet seasoning, but the spices come through nicely, giving it a delicious and complex flavor. It had a unique character that felt different from the luroufan I’d had before! The meat was tender and piled on generously, so it was very satisfying to eat!

From a window-side seat, you can take in the calm view outside and enjoy a relaxing cafe time with delicious cake and coffee✨ It is a moment wrapped in the quiet, warm atmosphere that only Tegamisha can offer. The happiness of taking a sip of carefully brewed coffee and savoring a seasonal cake. I was able to forget the bustle of everyday life and spend a calm, soothing time that felt like it eased even my heart☺️

Saifoni Kohi

Saifoni Coffee is a retro cafe in Sengawacho, Chofu City, a 3-minute walk north from Sengawa Station on the Keio Line. You can enjoy siphon brewed coffee here.

The interior, furnished with retro chairs and tables, has a calm atmosphere. Pleasant sunlight pours in through the large windows.

The "Breakfast Set" is a great value set that lets you enjoy house-made whole wheat bread and siphon-brewed coffee. It makes for a luxurious start to the morning.

The coffee brewed in a siphon has a clean taste. The toast has a crisp bite and a pleasantly chewy texture.

The parfait that changes with the seasons is a popular tea time menu item, and the one in the photo is the sakura parfait (cherry blossom parfait).

It is layered with sakura ice cream, panna cotta, and framboise, and topped with salted sakura leaves. This spring dessert lets you enjoy the aroma of sakura, the saltiness of the leaves, and that sweet-salty balance.

うずまきネコ

The original blend, carefully brewed with a siphon, has a very nice balance of acidity and bitterness. The Fromage Fruits I picked from the “homemade breads baked fresh every morning” had a simple, comforting taste, with liqueur-soaked dried fruits, cream cheese, and walnuts inside. It also paired perfectly with the coffee.

めんたいチーズ

In the evening, lots of sunlight streamed in through the windows, and the slow, relaxed pace felt very comfortable. I took it easy and made travel plans with friends, and we had a really lovely time. They also had light meals like toast, which looked very tasty.

Jun

Jun is a retro cafe located on the 1st floor of Kameya Building, right in the middle of Chofu Ginza Shopping Street, about a 4-minute walk from Chofu Station.

The interior has a sense of history and a calm, relaxed atmosphere. You can enjoy house-roasted drip coffee and Homemade chiffon cake.

The "Breakfast Set" follows a classic old-school style, with pleasantly bitter coffee, toast, a boiled egg, and salad. You can enjoy a relaxed morning here.

Around the shop, the rich aroma of roasting coffee is said to drift through the air. It seems some people are drawn in by the scent and decide to stop by.

The Homemade chiffon cake is soft and light. It looks like you can choose from several flavors, including cocoa, matcha (green tea), and banana.

It is also nice that it comes with ice cream. It seems to taste more refreshing than whipped cream.

オガーシャ

At Coffee-en Jun, I enjoyed the Hot Coffee Breakfast Set♪ On a quiet Sunday with nothing planned, I spent a relaxing Breakfast time there to start the day♪ Places like this, with a Showa-era feel, are becoming rare now... It's a precious spot♪

I started with the iced coffee, and its sharp, wake-you-up bitterness was really good. The chiffon cake comes with ice cream topped with blueberry sauce, and they even serve it with both a cake fork and an ice cream spoon.

cherry

Sakuranbo (cherry) is a retro cafe and bar located on the second floor of the Otake Building, right in front of the south exit of Shibasaki Station on the Keio Line in Chofu City.

Surrounded by antique furniture, musical instruments, and interior decor, the cafe has a calm atmosphere with jazz playing in the background, and the occasional jazz live performances are also well received.

The "Hamburger Steak Curry" is a hearty dish with plenty of beef curry poured over a large Hamburger Steak. It is one of the restaurant's popular menu items.

The curry is said to be spicy with a nice richness, and to be packed with thinly sliced beef and large pieces of onion.

The photo shows a "Vienna coffee" topped with plenty of fresh cream. You can enjoy the contrast between the pleasantly bitter coffee and the cold cream.

The coffee is carefully hand-dripped and said to have a deep, rich taste. It sounds nice to relax and enjoy it while listening to jazz.

The specialties here are said to be the Hamburger Steak curry and the Hamburger Steak curry doria, so I went with the curry! The curry was spicier than I expected, and the balance of roux and rice was just right! The Hamburger Steak was juicy and tasty too! The drinks were lovely, and I also liked how stylish the interior felt and how easy it was to relax there!

tesasaki

A jazz kissaten (traditional Japanese coffeehouse) right in front of Shibasaki Station. I stopped by as a cafe during the day, but I’d like to come back when there’s a live performance. The interior has a calm atmosphere, and I had the cake set. I took a break with iced coffee and gateau chocolat (chocolate cake?).

Saint-Malo

"Sanmaro" is a 1-minute walk from Chofu Station on the Keio Line. This retro cafe sits in a back alley behind the station and specializes in Toarco Toraja Coffee.

Inside, retro furniture blends with modern interior design to create a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere.

"Toarco Toraja Coffee" is a high quality coffee with a rich body, bright acidity, and a sweet finish. Its mild mouthfeel and refined taste pair well with sweets.

At cafe time, many people also enjoy the "Cake Set."

The “Mukashi-nagara no Napolitan” on the lunch menu uses thick noodles and has a rich, satisfying taste with the nice aroma of ketchup. It also comes with plenty of vegetables such as onions and green peppers.

It comes with a drink and a small dessert. You can also choose Toraja Blend.

まりん☕カフェ巡り

After watching a movie, I slowly read a book while savoring the afterglow. The cheesecake was sweeter than tangy, and it went very well with the strongly bitter coffee and fresh cream. It is a retro kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) with a slight Showa-era feel, but I appreciated that assorted varieties available of electronic payments are accepted. If I watch a movie in Chofu again, I would like to come back.

Since it was hot out, I went with an iced coffee, and this coffee, the Toraja Blend, was just so good. It had a nice medium-dark roast, a rich aroma, and a clean finish. I’m sure it would taste great not only iced but hot as well.

SAKAMOTO

SAKAMOTO is a retro cafe located about a 2-minute walk from Tsutsujigaoka Station on the Keio Line, around the middle of Shotengai Chuo Dori (Central Shopping Street).

Inside, which also serves as a roastery, is a calm space filled with light from the large windows. You can enjoy house-roasted coffee made with carefully selected beans chosen for their production region and grade.

The “iced coffee” is mizudashi (cold brewed), giving it a clean taste. It has low acidity, and the pleasant bitterness lingers nicely. It is also said to taste great with milk.

It comes with a single coffee ice cube, so even as time passes the coffee does not get watered down, and you can enjoy it to the last sip.

"Emerald Mountain" is a highly rare coffee that is also known as the jewel of Colombian coffee.

They say you can enjoy these rare beans roasted in-house, then ground and drip-brewed for each order. Reviews also said that this cup made just for you lets you fully enjoy a nice balance of bitterness, richness, and depth.

When you come here, you can enjoy a relaxing and comforting time. Of course, the blend coffee is excellent, and the cold brew iced coffee and (assorted varieties available) straight coffees are also very good.

The sandwiches are truly the kind you find at an old school kissaten (Japanese coffee shop). They have a nostalgic feel. Inside, the shop is quiet and a little dim, which makes it relaxing.

The interior, furnished with retro furniture, is said to be a calm yet elegant space.

The "Omurice" comes in the standard style, with ketchup rice wrapped in a soft and fluffy omelet. The tang of the ketchup makes it very pleasant.

Simple yet full of depth, it is a popular menu item that keeps people coming back.

The "ichigo (strawberry) Tappuri Soufflé Pancake" is a limited spring menu item. It is a seasonal version of the popular "Soufflé Pancake."

Carefully baked in the oven, each pancake stands an impressive 4 cm tall. With its light and airy texture, people say it goes down easily even though it is big.

I visited around 15:00 on Saturday. I thought it would be a busy time, but there was only one group waiting, so I got a seat surprisingly quickly. I had a hard time deciding what to order, but I chose the seasonal limited mont blanc pancake. I enjoyed it with plenty of maple syrup without worrying about the calories. It was delicious!

I tried Omurice at Hoshino Coffee Ten for the first time, and it was amazingly good. It has that classic flavor you can count on, and I think just about everyone would find it tasty. I love mushrooms, so I was also happy that it had a nice amount of mushrooms in it.
