akiraokawa
A classic kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) in Hiroshima. It is near Hilton Hiroshima, a little away from the center of Hiroshima City. The coffee and toast had that good old Japanese kissaten quality and were properly tasty, and I felt they gave the best care to help guests relax. They first asked whether I was in a hurry, and since the toast tends to crumble, they lent me a lap blanket.

The coffee is clean and crisp, yet it still has real depth. It’s easy to drink even black, and the moment you add milk, it suddenly becomes much smoother and richer, almost like a cafe latte, which feels amazing. Somehow, having a cup in this calm space feels a little Special.

A recommended choice is “Indonesia,” a coffee for which they grind the beans to order and brew each cup one by one right in front of you.
Its fruity aroma, soft acidity, and just the right bitterness come together in a mild, layered flavor that has earned high praise.

The wooden counter has a nice atmosphere. The background music is calm piano pieces. They seem to be pop arrangements rather than classical music. I ordered Kenyan coffee. They grind the beans and brew it on the spot. It had a bright acidity and an interesting taste. When I had it with the cake, the fresh cream went well with the coffee.

The "purin a la mode (pudding à la mode)" is a popular sweet with a bright look that catches the eye.

・Homemade purin (pudding) + coffee set
This retro-looking purin has the firm texture you would expect from how it looks. This kind of texture is really nice. The lightly bitter caramel mixes with the sweetness of the purin and fresh cream, making every bite feel happy. It also goes very well with the slightly bitter coffee. I ended up staying longer than planned, reading in the calm and relaxing space.

Every item on the menu is a winner. The pudding is firm. The taste is reliably good. The person I was with had the sandwich set. It is served in a beautiful Wedgwood cup. The coffee is good too. It was full at 14:00 on a weekday. The interior is comfortable. I hope this restaurant stays around for a long time.

The interior has a retro feel, with the charm of a good old kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop). The box seats feel like Semi-private room seating and are very comfortable. I ordered the Breakfast set with the Kiseki no Atsugiri Rare Katsu Sando (miraculous thick-cut rare pork cutlet sandwich). It uses low-temperature-cooked Hokkaido brand pork Yume no Daichi. The high ceiling makes the space feel open and roomy. They also sell coffee beans and more at the restaurant. It gets busy from the morning. The menu is not just bread items, and the fact that they even have a curry rice Breakfast is great! The best parfaits were waiting there. Every item features fruit arranged with great care by the second generation owner of this kissaten (Japanese coffee shop), which has been around for 50 years. People in Hiroshima are so lucky. I had the kanpei (a citrus variety) and setoka (a citrus variety) parfait and two lemon parfaits, and both were delicious. First, the cake, fromaju (fromage), arrived, followed a little later by the coffee (this time, G-sen Blend, though you can choose others too). The cake had a mild acidity. It was moist and had a nice texture in the mouth. The coffee had an easygoing taste that would appeal to just about anyone, with no strong distinctive flavor, and it was good. This feels like the kind of place where you enjoy the whole experience, including the atmosphere of the shop.
