Shizuoka Prefecture: Recommended Curry Restaurants in the Shizuoka City Area

Maharaja Dining is an Indian restaurant located along Minami Kansen near Kusanagi Sports Complex in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City. It was founded in Shizuoka City in 1986. This popular restaurant has multiple locations in the prefecture, and this is the Honten.
The space is decorated with brick walls and small goods imported directly from India. The cheerful service from the staff also seems to be well liked.

The curry prepared by a chef from India is made using only aromatic vegetables as the base, finished with top quality spices.
The curry menu is extensive, with vegetable, chicken, mutton, and special options. You can choose from four spice levels, from regular to very hot.
Photograph:Str_Raimu
Both the lunch and dinner naan and curry sets are popular. You can choose your curry and drink from about 8 options.
The naan that comes with the set also gets good reviews. For an extra charge, you can switch to options like cheese naan or honey naan. If you are dining with 2 or more people, you can also enjoy a course meal that includes curry.
Str_Raimu
I wasn’t really sure how to order, but the staff kindly explained it to me☺️The cheese naan was bigger than I expected, and even though I chose the All you can eat option, I ended up finishing without getting a refill lol. It was packed with cheese and served piping hot! The soup served first had a tangy taste, and it was really good.

The chicken do pyaza curry (chicken and onions) has no strong distinctive flavor and is a tasty curry that appeals to just about everyone. The sag chicken curry (chicken and spinach) is also good, with the sweetness of spinach and the aroma of ginger. The mutton shahi masala curry (tomato/egg/mutton) is mild and tasty, with the rich flavor of mutton and a nice kick of spice. In short, both the naan and the curries are delicious, so I recommend them.

You can enjoy healthy curry made with spices imported directly from India, with onions and tomatoes as the base. Even the regular spice level has a solid kick, and they can also adjust the heat.
They offer a wide variety of curries, including chicken, mutton, and seafood curry.
You can choose from several options to go with your curry, including saffron rice and naan. There is also a good variety of naan, such as ones with garlic or nuts.
The tandoor dishes, baked in a dedicated kiln, are also popular for being tasty, as is the spicy biryani made with Indian rice.
ひさ@食いしん坊
After a short wait, the curry arrived. Mm. It smells great. First, the chicken and onions. Oh. Nice heat. Even the regular spice level (1-spicy) is fairly hot. And the chicken is tender. I can faintly taste ginger.

The tandoori chicken was cooked to perfection. The biryani was also great, even though it was my first time trying it. I expected it to be very spicy, but the seasoning was just right, the texture was good, and the two of us finished it in no time.

They offer about 8 kinds of curry, including limited time options made with seasonal vegetables. You can choose the spice level from 5 levels, ranging from mild to regular to very hot.
The curries get high marks for their spicy flavor layered with the natural sweetness of vegetables and the rich taste of chicken, mutton, shrimp, and more.
At lunchtime, a popular set lets you choose one or two curries from eight kinds, and it comes with naan and salad.
The naan is said to be large and pleasantly chewy. It is also a good idea to order different curries with a group and compare the flavors.

I ordered the Day Trip Curry! The curry that day was pumpkin curry. And of course, for a drink! Lassi. If you’re not drinking lassi with Indian curry, what are you even drinking! That’s how much I love lassi♡I love pumpkin curry! The Indian spice and the pumpkin’s natural sweetness came together, and it was so delicious♡The naan was nice and chewy.

I ordered butter chicken curry and oolong tea, and asked for the curry at regular spice level. The food came quickly. The salad was fresh, the dressing was tasty, and the portion was just right. The chicken curry had tender meat, went well with the rice, and the sauce was mild. It was very delicious.

You can enjoy a thick, creamy curry made with vegetables and nut paste.

Another key point is that the tandoor oven used at this Indian restaurant runs on charcoal rather than gas. The far-infrared effect is said to bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients.

They say they use 28 different spices differently for each curry. There is a wide range of options, including pork, seafood, and mutton, and you can choose the heat level from 10 levels, from mild to super spicy.
The popular choices are Butter Chicken, which has a mellow flavor, and murugu karē (Indian home-style curry), a taste of Indian home cooking.

They also offer items like "tandoori chicken," baked after being rubbed with original spices, and "kabab," made by mixing chicken thigh meat with spices and shaping it into a stick.
They also have an All you can eat plan where you can enjoy as much curry and naan as you like.

The main curry was chicken hariyali. It was my first time trying it, and it had plenty of spinach and chicken, plus lots of spices, with a rich taste. Curry Shop Cardamom is a curry specialty restaurant located about a 2-minute walk from the south exit of Hamamatsu Station, along Ekiminami Odori. The owner studied curry in Tokyo and returned to Shizuoka, their hometown, to open the restaurant in 2019.
As soon as you step inside, you are said to be surrounded by the aroma of spices.
Photograph:エフ氏
The specialty is "keema curry." It is a minced meat curry made with generous amounts of cardamom, a spice known for its especially rich aroma.
After the sweetness of onion and other ingredients comes through, you can taste the spices, and a refreshing note spreads across your mouth. You can also add toppings like onsen tamago (hot spring egg) and cheese.
Photograph:ちでじん
They also offer "chicken curry," a light, soup like curry made with a blend of spices that pair well with chicken. A popular option is the menu that lets you enjoy a Combination of keema curry and chicken curry.
Many people also get the "curry bread" for Takeout, which is made by wrapping keema curry in bread dough and deep frying it.
エフ氏
The keema curry is on the sweeter side at first, then fresh spices come through, and finally the bright aroma of pink pepper lingers. It is packed with well simmered ground meat, making it very satisfying. It was the kind of curry that clearly showed how carefully it was made. It was a great meal!

ちでじん
Starting with the keema curry, it hardly felt spicy at first, and the sweetness stood out. Still, it had good depth, and the aroma of the spices slowly opened up. The chicken curry, on the other hand, was very spicy, and the heat really caught up afterward.

The butter chicken curry had a nice level of heat even at the spicy setting, with a great balance of rich depth and tomato acidity. The curry had a complex blend of spices. And the balance was great. It was a curry that clearly showed a lot of care. Yaizu City sits in the central area of Shizuoka City along Suruga-wan (Suruga Bay). Namasute Yaizu Honten is located between the coastline and National Route 150.
The restaurant serves Indian and Nepalese cuisine, and the photo posters inside also have a South Asian feel. There are table seats with colorful chairs, as well as zashiki (raised tatami seating) seats.

One of the popular menu items is the "Nepal Soup Curry Set." It comes with a smooth, light soup curry filled with your choice of ingredients such as chicken or mutton.
The complex blend of spices gives it a deep aroma and flavor, and it also goes well with turmeric rice.

They also serve thick curry, with a wide variety of ingredients such as pork and seafood. You can choose the spice level, and even the medium spicy one is said to have quite a kick.
There are also several kinds of naan, and you can choose rice options such as garlic rice or butter rice.

The "mutton" (curry) has parsley floating in the center. The red curry lets you taste the savory flavor and sweetness of the vegetables, and then the heat kicks in with a tingling burn. The mutton comes in cubes and has a bit of bite, but the pieces are a good size and easy to eat.

The cheese naan is piping hot. It is round like a disc and cut like a pizza. When you pick up a slice by hand, the cheese from the cut stretches way out, and your hand goes ouch, hot hot hot! You carefully adjust your grip and take a bite with the curry, and the spicy curry flavor and the taste of the cheese come together beautifully. It is so good that you cannot stop eating.

Gangaji Yaizu Ten is an Indian restaurant in the area around Nishi-Yaizu Station, where factories and homes mix in Yaizu City. It is about a 5-minute walk from Nishi-Yaizu Station, near the Yanagishinya intersection.
The exterior and interior are done in off-white tones. Box seating lines the dining room, so you can enjoy your meal in a spacious, relaxed setting.

The curry shown in the photo is "mutton curry." It is said to have plenty of chunky pieces of meat, making it quite filling.
They also offer a wide variety of options, including "vegetable curry," "seafood curry," and "butter chicken and spinach curry."

Several people said the naan is very large and delicious. People also like that they can eat it fresh from the oven while it is still piping hot.
Good value sets that combine tandoori chicken or shrimp with curry and naan are also popular.

The curry was super hot too!! Since I had nothing else to do after this, I decided to take my time and enjoy it. Partway through, I took bites of the chunky meat and really enjoyed the flavor of the mutton. After that, it was all about naan naan naan dipped in curry. I love that to begin with, and since it tastes so good, I never get tired of it lol. Once I finished everything, ah, it was just the right level of Manpuku.

The naan is impressively large, and it tastes so good that you can enjoy it even on its own. And at lunch, refills of naan are free. When you ask for another serving, you can choose the size too. You can also choose the type of curry, along with naan or rice. The prices are reasonable, and the good food left me completely Manzoku.
