Shiro Sanso

Matsuyama Castle stands in the center of Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. Parts of this castle built in the early 1600s still remain today, and from the upper levels you can look out over the Seto Inland Sea.

Shiroyamaso is a restaurant on the summit of Katsuyama, where Matsuyama Castle stands. Open terrace seating is also available in front of the restaurant.

After touring Matsuyama-jo (Matsuyama Castle), many people seem to stop by for souvenirs or a quick bite.

A popular choice is the "Iyokan (Japanese summer orange) soft serve." It combines marmalade made from Iyokan, a citrus fruit with the highest production in Japan, with vanilla soft serve.

Ehime Prefecture is said to harvest many kinds of citrus, including mikan (mandarin oranges), iyokan (Iyokan citrus), and blood oranges.

You can also drink mikan juice made from the mikan harvested in abundance during that season. The mikan juice that comes out when you turn the tap is their specialty. You can enjoy this fresh juice with both sweetness and a refreshing taste.

This shop is attached to a stand, and there are benches outside where you can sit and eat. I ordered the iyokan (Japanese summer orange) soft serve (JPY600), topped with iyokan jelly, and it really felt like a “full-course mikan meal” in one item. There was fruit pulp inside the soft serve too, and the overall taste was light and refreshing, and very delicious!

Mikan (mandarin orange) juice comes right out of the tap! I saw this in all kinds of places around Ehime. Of course, it makes you want to try it at least once! You can choose between a plastic cup and a mug, so I went with the mug♪ The woman at the stand told me, "You only get one shot, so fill it up as much as you can right to the limit!" and I gave it a try. It was so much fun♡ It had a nice level of sweetness and went down super easily! It really quenched my thirst〜✨

Buena Vista

Baishinji Station on the Iyotetsu Takahama Line runs along the coastline of Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture. It is also known as the station closest to the Seto Naikai (Seto Inland Sea).

The cafe near the station is Buena Vista. Built between the tracks and the shore, it has a resort feel like a beach house.

The open terrace lets you feel the sea breeze and hear the sound of the waves. In the summer season, they also offer reservation-only barbecues.

With views of the blue sea and sky, and Gogoshima in the Setonaikai (Seto Inland Sea), it looks like a great place to relax with a coffee, beer, or Ehime citrus juice.

The popular menu item is “Matsuyama Meat Spaghetti.” In Matsuyama (a city in Ehime Prefecture), a slightly sweet flavor is common, using the sweetness of vegetables and barley miso (mugi miso) as a hidden touch, and you can enjoy sweet-style spaghetti here as well.

When you order a meal, you can also add cake for an extra charge.

The restaurant is just a short walk from the station, and its stylish exterior really lifts your mood♪The dining area is spacious and wonderfully open! From the terrace seats, you can have the blue sea and blue sky all to yourself. We sat where we had a great view of the ocean and enjoyed our meal while taking in the amazing scenery.

The location is just too amazing. Since it sits along the railway, trains in Ehime colors pass through this calm view. I almost fell in love at first sight❤️The staff were also very pleasant, and with the sea breeze in the air, the place feels full of resort vibes☆彡It looks like you can also have a barbecue here, but I’d love to come back and grab a window seat next time at this cafe☆彡

The Park M's Coffee

The Park M's Coffee is a cafe restaurant located on the grounds of the Ehime Prefectural Museum of Art inside the Matsuyama Castle ruins in central Matsuyama City.

It has open terrace seating with a panoramic view of Shiroyama Park and the Matsuyama Castle keep. It is also a great place to relax while taking in the beautiful scenery.

Located on the first floor of the museum’s west wing, the interior features a calm wood toned design. The high ceiling and large windows give it an open feel.

It is available not only for museum visitors, but also for stopping by during a walk in the spacious park or for lunch.

The signature item is the “Shiroyama Burger.” It features a Hamburger Steak made from a blend of ground beef, pork, and chicken, sandwiched in bread with paprika, tomato, onion, and other vegetables.

Another popular choice is a savory burger with a kakiage (mixed tempura fritter) made with small fried shrimp. Hamburgers, coffee, and more are also available for Takeout.

I visited after using Matsuyama Shimin Kaikan (Matsuyama Civic Hall). With the neighboring park and greenery in view, the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows make it a lovely cafe where you can really see outside♡ On this day, I sat on the terrace, and it was fun watching stylish customers having tea with their dogs♡

I had lunch at the cafe attached to the museum. I had a hamburger called Shiroyama Burger. The patty was as juicy as Mos Burger's Tobikiri Burger, and for food served at a cafe attached to a public facility, I think the quality was quite high.

Anetto

Anetto is a cafe near Otemachi Station in Matsuyama, a station famous for its diamond crossing, where a streetcar line and a city rail line cross each other at street level.

It features a 1960s American style. The brick exterior stands out, and an open terrace is set up next to the entrance.

The interior is said to be decorated with American knick-knacks and record jackets from the 1960s and 1970s.

The pancakes are popular. They also serve crunchy pancakes made with cereal mixed into the batter, and one of the highlights is the generous amount of cream.

The food menu also includes American-style items such as pork chops and American Hamburger Steak.

Napolitan, a tomato sauce spaghetti dish, was one of the popular menu items served at Japanese kissaten (traditional coffee shops) around 1960.

あずきのめあり

As soon as you walk in, your eye is drawn to the vintage American style decorations that give off a nostalgic feel. There are guitars, Mickey figurines, and even a Snoopy picture on the wall, giving the place a cute yet nostalgic vibe. There is no counter seating, but there are tables further inside, so the space feels relaxed and roomy.

とめおのグルメ日記

A coworker took me to a lovely place. It was a cafe called "Anetto" in Otemachi (a business district in central Tokyo) ☕️It is a bit of a hidden gem and does not really stand out at first glance, but it is spacious in the back. I went with the "American Hamburger Steak Plate." The plateware was stylish too. The 100% beef Hamburger Steak had a nice meaty texture and was delicious〜

Drive-in Out There

Drive-In Out There is a drive-in near Matsuasaumi Gyoko (Matsuasaumi Fishing Port), facing National Route 196.

The restaurant has an American-style exterior, and a hot dog shaped statue welcomes guests.

This is a recommended spot not only for stopping by by car, but also by motorcycle or bicycle. It is open from morning until evening, so you can visit for breakfast or lunch.

They also offer dining on the open terrace, where you can enjoy the outdoor breeze. It is also a great place to relax during cafe time.

The signature item is a large hot dog. The bread is specially baked for them by a local bakery.

The sausage is also thick, a hearty coarse ground pork sausage. It has a good reputation for the way the juices spread through your mouth when you bite into it.

ぶらり 近ちゃん

It was lively and popular with bikers and cyclists! I ordered the Most Popular spicy chili dog set, my partner had the pizza dog set, and we also ordered soft shell crab curry to share. We took our time and enjoyed everything inside the restaurant ✨️!^_^ The atmosphere inside was also great, with the dandy owner, the bikers, and the background music.

辣油は飲み物

The hot dog is... huge! Even so, the bun is soft and surprisingly light, and the chili sauce is tasty, with the spicy kick and tang of jalapeños adding a refreshing touch. It is a large hot dog, but the bun is so light that you can finish it in no time. If you are planning to travel from Matsuyama to Imabari, I recommend stopping by for breakfast!

Yume Urara

Yume Urara is a cafe located north of central Matsuyama, about 5 minutes by car from the Yanagihara area. It is a hideaway-like spot nestled in the mountains on the way to the summit of Otsukiyama (Mount Otsuki).

This standalone house is surrounded by greenery. Seasonal flowers bloom around the open terrace, and you can even see the Seto Inland Sea in the distance.

Open from morning until sunset. It is in a location that is hard to get to without a car, but it is popular, so making a reservation is recommended.

One of its features is the use of ingredients that are gentle on the body. You can also enjoy juice made with fruits grown without pesticides.

A popular choice is the "Yume Urara Homemade Lunch." It features an assortment of many different side dishes on a large plate, and is well known for being a colorful and tasty meal.

The "additive-free Homemade Toast" is also popular. One of its key features is that it is made with milk and soy milk instead of water. It is so good that some people even get it for Takeout.

The terrace is full of flowers, and with cherry blossom trees there, it looks like spring must be spectacular. Best of all, it sits on high ground, so the ocean view is a real plus. The lunch I ordered came with many dishes and good volume, and everything was tasty. I chose bread, and it seems the bread is also well known, so I bought some to take home because it was soft and delicious.

Since it was a little chilly, I stylishly went with hot yuzu (citron) tea. This is Homemade too. It has a clean, refreshing sweetness and the flavor of yuzu. It warms both body and soul. A pair of mejiro (Japanese white-eyes) came to the feeder on the terrace. Even as a pair, they do not peck at the same food together, but keep a moderate distance apart. And then there is the calm sea of the Setonaikai (Seto Inland Sea). It is truly "a hazy spring dream."

Kafe Gurato

The orange and brown exterior makes it easy to spot. Inside, there is warm and cozy seating, and they also have open terrace seats in front of the cafe.

During the day, it operates as a cafe with Breakfast service, and at night, it also operates as a bar.

The popular dish is the "Omurice." It is a dish of rice wrapped in soft egg. Ketchup is the classic topping, but they also serve "Omurice Curry" topped with curry.

The dessert menu is also extensive, with items like pancakes and parfaits filled with an assortment of ice cream, yogurt, and fruit in a glass.

They also offer a wide selection of tea and herbal tea, making it a great place to relax and enjoy them with something sweet.

地獄の使者h

I had a late lunch, but I still had time before checking in at the hotel, so I wandered around Matsuyama City looking for a cafe. Around Yogo, I found a cafe with a large parking lot and headed in. The full glass walls give it an open feel inside and out. The interior is spacious as well.

Since it was my first visit, I read through the menu and ordered the hot sandwich with egg on kokuto-pan (brown sugar bread) and Omurice curry! I paired them with an iced café latte. It was delicious. The highlight of the day was the Omurice curry. I got to enjoy a really good Omurice curry for the first time in a while.

It is open from morning until late at night, and it seems you can comfortably use the terrace seats at any time of day.

The shop also has a drive through, so you can stop by easily without even getting out of your car. You can also take your customized coffee along for the drive.

Many people seem to visit looking forward to the special drinks that appear each season. They are popular because you can enjoy flavors unique to that time of year.

They also offer food items such as sandwiches, donuts, and cakes, so this place is recommended for breakfast or lunch as well.

日曜から夜更かし

A post-meal nighttime trip to Starbucks! The drive-thru is super popular on Saturday nights! Cars just kept coming in forever. Haha. I ordered a Coffee Frappuccino. Since it was cool out, I sat on the outdoor terrace♪ It had chocolate chips inside, so it wasn’t overly sweet and tasted great. The new Oimo Furappuccino (sweet potato Frappuccino) was intensely sweet!

The staff were very polite, gave me all kinds of advice, and helped me customize my drink! I’ll be back! Frappuccinos are the best! Whenever a seasonal Frappuccino comes out, I absolutely want to try it! I’m looking forward to it ^_^
