Oiwake Dango Honpo Shinjuku Honten

Oiwake Dango Honpo Shinjuku Honten is a well regarded shop known for creative and innovative wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). Since it is near Shinjuku Gyoen, it is also a nice stop to drop by while sightseeing.

The staff's service feels warm and shows how much they value their customers. In busy Shinjuku, this is said to be a place where you can enjoy a calm and peaceful time.

The kakigori (shaved ice) is said to have a light and crisp texture, and seasonal limited time flavors often appear. This is the kind of place that makes you want to stop by for whatever is in season.

The photo shows the “waguri (Japanese chestnut).” It is filled with plenty of chestnut sauce even inside the ice, so it stays tasty to the very last bite.

The "dango (sweet rice dumpling) Two-Piece assortment" is perfect for a short break while strolling around Shinjuku.

The mitarashi (sweet soy glaze) is said to be irresistible, with a sweet and salty sauce. The shiro-an (white bean paste) has a refined sweetness, and alternating bites with the mitarashi makes it taste even better.

It was so hot in the summer that I was craving kakigori (shaved ice), so I visited this place that I had been curious about for a while! I waited for about 5 minutes, but since I could wait inside the shop, it wasn’t a problem at all. The kakigori was topped with overflowing azuki (sweet red beans), and since I love azuki, I was thrilled❤︎It was irresistible

The warabi mochi (bracken starch dumpling) is soft and seems to melt in your mouth. The vanilla ice cream served on the side is also fresh and rich, sweet and very tasty. It really hits the spot when the summer heat has worn you out.

Koori Obake

Koori Obake is a kakigori (shaved ice) shop in a spot with great access from Seibu-Shinjuku Station. You can enjoy creative kakigori with original syrups and toppings all year round.

Every kakigori comes with a ghost-shaped meringue, and its cute appearance is part of the appeal.

The “Pistachio Berry Kakigori (shaved ice)” is a luxurious treat with pastry tucked inside the ice.

Cranberry and pistachio go very well together, and the crisp texture of the pastry adds a nice accent.

If you can’t decide what to eat, the recommended choice is the “Ocha no Aimori Gori,” which lets you enjoy two flavors at once.

Inside the shaved ice, which is topped half with hojicha (roasted green tea) espuma and half with matcha (powdered green tea) espuma, there are gyuhi (soft rice cake) and amanatto (sweet candied beans). It looks like a great way to enjoy Japanese sweets.

・Tea Combo shaved ice
You can really enjoy two flavors, matcha and hojicha (roasted green tea), and both are rich.
The tea aroma gently spreads, so you can enjoy it to the last bite without getting tired of it.
Inside are gyuhi (soft rice cake) and anko (sweet red bean paste), a combination that Japanese sweets lovers will find hard to resist. The ghost-shaped meringue is also cute, making it perfect for photos

Bright syrup is poured over fluffy shaved ice, and it looks exciting from the start✨One bite melts softly in your mouth, with a nice balance of sweetness and the cool chill of the ice. It made for a refreshing dessert you can enjoy even at night, and together with the calm atmosphere inside, it turned into a relaxing, unhurried time.

Shinjuku Noel

Shinjuku Noel is a kakigori (shaved ice) shop located in a corner of a hotel.

Its appeal is the menu featuring plenty of seasonal fruits such as melon, sumomo (Japanese plum), and nashi (pear). Reviews also say it makes you want to come back again and again in different seasons.

The photo shows the cute-looking "Tokusei Nama Cream Milk Tea (Strawberry)" that looks like a shortcake.

The fluffy ice has a rich tea flavor, making this a popular menu item that lets you feel their care in selecting the tea leaves.

The limited-time Wa-nashi Earl Grey menu item gives a sense of the start of autumn. It is made with Keisui nashi (premium Japanese pear), said to be a top-grade variety.

The delicate sweetness of the juicy pear is said to pair perfectly with the elegant aroma of Earl Grey.

• Pistachio kakigori (shaved ice)
I came here starving and totally focused on this. The cream was as good as I hoped. It had a little berry sauce inside, plus cocoa cookies. I really liked the combination, and it was right up my alley.

・sumomo (Japanese plum)
Though it was kakigori (shaved ice), it had a bright red look that did not disappoint. The flavor was great too, with anko (sweet red bean paste) inside the ice, fresh sumomo mixed in, and a milk flavor at the bottom for a change of pace, so I really never got tired of it all the way to the last bite. The size was also just right. I would love to visit again next time and try a different flavor!

Toraya Karyo Shinjuku Isetan Ten

Toraya Karyo Shinjuku Isetan Ten is a wa-cafe (Japanese-style cafe) located in the basement of Shinjuku Isetan, where you can enjoy seasonal wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), with kakigori (shaved ice) in summer and mochi in winter.

It is known for its polite service, and even if you stop by alone while shopping, you can still have a pleasant time.

The limited time autumn menu item is kuri-goori (chestnut shaved ice). This luxurious dessert comes not only with grated chestnut poured over the top, but also with chestnut bean paste layered at the bottom of the shaved ice.

Adding mitsu-guri (sweet chestnuts) or condensed milk makes it even more satisfying.

In the cold season, menu items that warm you up make an appearance.

The photo shows yomogi mochi (mugwort rice cake). The nicely toasted mochi gives off the rich aroma of yomogi, and you can enjoy its great harmony with the smooth sweet bean paste.

The matcha shaved ice was very delicious. I could really taste the rich matcha flavor, and the balance of slight bitterness and sweetness was just right. Eaten with the fluffy ice, it felt light on the palate and made for a refreshing dessert that was perfect for the hot season.

This is my favorite spot to take a break when shopping at Shinjuku Isetan. I love the combination of soft, fragrant Isobe mochi (rice cakes wrapped in seaweed) and matcha glace, and I have lost count of how many times I have had it. I visited in the evening and was lucky to get in without waiting at all, which was unusual.

Kumu Coffee Lumine Est Shinjuku Ten

Kum Coffee Lumine Est Shinjuku Ten is a cafe inside Lumine Est Shinjuku with a "Kankoku Retoro (Korean retro)" concept.

The desserts and drinks are popular not only for their taste but also for how they look. The interior also has a pop design with a nostalgic feel, so it is said to be a place where you can relax and enjoy spending time chatting with friends.

The photo shows the colorful and visually popular "Rainbow Kakigori (shaved ice)," made with 7 kinds of fruit including mango, kiwi, and orange.

The strawberry sauce pairs perfectly with each fruit, making this an irresistible treat for fruit lovers.

The cute looking Mocchiri Panda is very popular, and because they grill it only after you order, you can enjoy it piping hot and chewy.

It comes in four fillings, tsubuan (chunky red bean paste), chocolate, custard, and satsumaimo (sweet potato), so it may be hard to choose just one.

Korean-style kakigori (shaved ice), bingsu, is appealing for its fluffy ice and plenty of toppings. The ice is incredibly light, with a soft texture that melts away beautifully, and the gentle sweetness spreading in your mouth feels so nice. In particular, it comes piled high with condensed milk, anko (sweet red bean paste), fruit, and even lots of cereal and nuts, so you can enjoy a different taste with every bite.

ゆかこいけんふー

True to a Korean cafe, it was full of cute menu items like kakigori (shaved ice) and fruit on sticks. The eat-in space on the 8th floor of LUMINE EST is spacious, so you can relax there fairly comfortably, which I recommend. I’d definitely like to visit again. I really enjoyed it. It was a great meal.

Fuwatoro Kakigori Kobo AWAYUKI

Fuwatoro Kori Kobo AWAYUKI, about a 2-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, is a kakigori (shaved ice) shop run by a yakitori restaurant during daytime hours only.

The wide selection of kakigori (shaved ice) each comes with two sauces on the side. It’s nice that you can pour on whichever one you like, in as much as you like, and enjoy changing up the flavor.

The cute-looking "ichigo mille-feuille (strawberry mille-feuille)," which looks like a cake, is just like a "cake you eat in summer."

The strawberry and cream are not only on top of the ice but also inside it, which is another reason people like it, since you can enjoy it to the last bite without getting tired of it.

The “momo (peach) cheesecake” comes topped with cheese cream and peach over shaved ice.

The contrast between the fluffy, crisp ice and the rich cream is said to be just right, and you can really taste the peach flavor.

・Tokonatsu no Toropikaru Kori (Endless Summer Tropical Shaved Ice)
This shaved ice has a light, airy texture, topped with fresh cream espuma, mango, pineapple, and nuts. It also has fruit and cream inside ✨ You pour over the pineapple sauce and passion fruit sauce served on the side. The refreshing sweetness really feels like summer♪

・Strawberry mille-feuille
It was really nice that the sauce and condensed milk both came on the side, so I could pour on as much as I liked! The strawberry mille-feuille was sweet and tasty even without adding anything, with cream and crispy mille-feuille-like pastry. And when I poured on the strawberry sauce, the strawberry flavor got even stronger and tasted even better~!
