[Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture] Stylish Cafes

Lapis JR Higashi-Nihon Hotel Mets Utsunomiya Ten

Lapis JR Higashi Nihon Hotel Mets Utsunomiya Ten is directly connected to Utsunomiya Station and is located on the 3rd floor of the hotel.

The interior is a stylish space, highlighted by eye-catching objects made with Oya-ishi (Oya stone), a local specialty of Utsunomiya. You can enjoy not only cafe time, but also Breakfast and lunch.

The seasonal limited "ichigo no shortcake (strawberry shortcake)" is this shop's special cake, made with fluffy sponge cake layered with strawberries.

It is said to have a nice balance of fresh strawberries and lightly sweet whipped cream. In addition to ordering it A la carte, you can also get it as a set with a drink.

"Lapis Afternoon Tea" is a set that comes with mini desserts, mini sandwiches, homemade French toast, and a cake of your choice.

It also includes free-flow drinks, so you can enjoy a relaxed cafe time.

RoySe Cafe

RoySe Cafe in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, is about a 10-minute drive from the Utsunomiya IC on the Tohoku Expressway.

The interior is a stylish space with the warmth of wood and a seaside feel. It offers a wide range of seating, including sofa seats, zashiki (Japanese-style floor seating) where you can stretch out and relax, and terrace seats.

The photo shows the “RoySe Burger,” made with house-made tomato sauce as the key finishing touch.

The thick patty is said to be juicy, with rich meaty flavor spreading with every bite. It is filling without feeling too heavy, so people say they can enjoy it to the last bite without getting tired of it.

The “taco rice” is said to be a dish where a soft-cooked egg melts into the spiced taco meat.

It also comes with plenty of vegetables, plus salad, soup, and a small side dish, so its good balance is part of the appeal. Its colorful presentation is also said to whet the appetite.

I went to RoySe Cafe for a hamburger. It looked very filling from the start, and it was the kind of burger that gets you excited the moment it arrives at the table. A soft bun holds a meaty patty, bacon, cheese, and plenty of sauce, and each bite feels very satisfying.

We stopped by on our way back from Utsunomiya Dobutsuen (Utsunomiya Zoo). I had the taco rice, and it was very good. Guests with children were shown to the second floor, and the floor mats made it a very comfortable place to spend time.

Za Robii Raunji

The Lobby Lounge is a cafe located inside The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, about a 30-minute drive from JR Nikko Station.

Inside, large windows look out onto the garden, and the calm space is filled with warm wooden interiors and natural materials. Time seems to pass in a slow and luxurious way.

This afternoon tea is also popular in reviews. You can enjoy sweets and savory items made with plenty of local ingredients.

Since the contents change depending on the season, some people said they want to come back again.

The photo shows tea leaves for the tea served with afternoon tea. At this shop, you can enjoy pairing afternoon tea with nihoncha (Japanese tea).

You can choose your favorite cup from today’s tea leaf selection, and they use high quality tea leaves carefully selected from around Japan.

おぬも

Enjoy a strawberry afternoon tea in the lobby lounge of The Ritz-Carlton Nikko. The sweets, with the sweet-tart flavor of strawberries standing out, look elegant and pair excellently with the savory items. The view of Lake Chuzenji from the large windows and the attentive service created a Special moment. It is worth a visit during this seasonal offering.

The atmosphere was great, and it felt timeless, clean, and upscale. The view of Chuzenjiko (Lake Chuzenji) also made the location excellent. Most importantly, the service and afternoon tea were flawless and perfect. The afternoon tea looked beautiful of course, and it also tasted great. It was amazing to have something so well made even up in the mountains.

Kobito Cafe @ Hidamari Renga Hiroba

Kobito Cafe @ Hidamari Renga Hiroba in Nogi, Shimotsuga District, Tochigi Prefecture, is a cafe attached to the nationally designated Important Cultural Property Nogi-machi Renga Gama (Nogi Town Brick Kiln). It is about 5 minutes by car from Koga Station, and it also has a spacious parking lot.

The inside is clean and has a casual atmosphere that makes it easy to drop by.

"Margherita" is this restaurant's signature item, a pizza finished in a wood-fired oven.

The dough, made with Yumekaori (a wheat variety) from Tochigi Prefecture and natural yeast, is said to have a pleasantly chewy texture. They stretch each piece of dough by hand after an order comes in and bake it with care.

The “Renga Sando” is a sandwich made with vegetables from Nogi-machi (Nogi Town), prosciutto, and Camembert cheese.

The bread is branded with a cute image of Nogi-machi’s mascot character. In addition to ordering it A la carte, they also offer a set that comes with salad and dessert.

With its calm wood toned interior, it is an easy place to stop by for a break between trips.

In addition to standard coffee and tea, this cafe also offers limited seasonal drinks. The photo shows the summer-only suika juice (watermelon juice).

Made with 100% fruit juice and no sugar, it lets you fully enjoy the natural flavor of suika. A touch of rock salt as a hidden accent is said to bring out its sweetness even more.

The menu includes pasta sets that are also perfect for lunch.

The photo shows the "salmon and mushroom tarako (salted cod roe) butter spaghetti" and a "caffè latte." They also offer the classic Naporitan (Japanese ketchup spaghetti) as part of the cafe menu.
