Aburiya Shokudo

Aburiya Shokudo is an izakaya about a 10-minute walk from JR Koriyama Station, tucked away in a back alley just off Omachi-dori. Here, you can enjoy fresh seafood dishes and specialty dishes from Fukushima Prefecture with local sake.

The calm interior has a traditional Japanese feel, with counter seats on the first floor and fully private rooms on the second floor.

One of the big draws is the selection of local sake from Fukushima Prefecture. As shown in the photo, they also offer a "three-sake tasting" where you can enjoy 3 kinds of Omakase.

The "sashimi assortment," which lets you try a variety of options in small portions, uses wild caught fish. You can also add shellfish taken straight from the tank in the restaurant.

The photo shows sumibiyaki tori (charcoal grilled chicken skewers) that pair perfectly with drinks. They use Date-dori (Fukushima free-range chicken) from Fukushima Prefecture, known for its tender texture and deep flavor. You can order from 5 skewers with Omakase.

In addition, they offer a wide range of courses, including courses with All you can drink that you can enjoy with drinks.

I was already quite full, so I could not eat that much, but even the otoshi (small appetizer) wakame seaweed was good, and the fresh oysters, whelk, and tekka-maki (tuna roll) were all delicious. The counter had a nice atmosphere too, and I ended up wishing I could have had a proper dinner there. I also had umeshu (plum wine) from Aizu with hot water!

With the open kitchen, we could watch the cooking right in front of us from the counter seats, which made for a fun atmosphere. Including the otoshi (small appetizer), there were 10 dishes in total, and the amount was quite filling and very Manzoku. From the fresh sashimi, to the steak with tasty fat, to the soba at the end, it was a night when the local sake from Fukushima went down well.

Ikken

Ikken is a hidden-style izakaya (Japanese pub) on the 4th floor of a building along Daikan Koji, just a 3-minute walk from the Central Exit of JR Koriyama Station, where you can enjoy exceptionally fresh seafood with local sake.

The interior has a calm Japanese feel, and in addition to counter seats, it also offers many Private rooms with Sunken kotatsu seating.

The restaurant buys live seafood landed mainly in Kyushu and serves it by taking it out of the fish tank in the restaurant when it is cooked.

If you want to enjoy that freshness, they recommend the "sashimi assortment." You can choose between a portion for 2〜3 people and one for 4〜5 people. They also offer grilled and simmered dishes.

Centered on local sake from Fukushima Prefecture, they offer a full lineup of well-known labels from sake regions around Japan. All of them are easy to drink, so you may end up drinking a bit too much.

They also offer several kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese meal) courses, where you can enjoy Japanese food made with seasonal ingredients throughout the year. If you have a group of 4 or more, you can also order All you can drink.

Every item on the menu looked delicious. The menu really speaks to anyone who loves a good drink. I had Izumikawa from Hiroki Shuzo Brewery. It is a rare sake you do not often see in Tokyo. I will definitely be back. I will come again when I am in Koriyama.

We were shown to our seats, and started the All you can drink with beer. Here, the All you can drink includes bottled beer. It started with Appetizers, and the dishes came at a nice pace. The sashimi was also good. What stood out most was the grilled fish. It was shumokuzame (hammerhead shark). It was my first time trying it, but it was easy to eat, with no off notes or distinctive flavor.

Taishu Baniku Sakaba Mimura Koriyama Ten

Taishu Baniku Sakaba Mimura Koriyama Ten is a baniku (horse meat) izakaya located a 3-minute walk from the west exit of JR Koriyama Station.

In a stylish retro-modern space, you can casually enjoy fresh baniku with local sake from Fukushima Prefecture. The restaurant is equipped with counter and table seating.

The specialty here is “abiyaki baniku (grilled horse meat),” cooked on a tabletop wire grill. Grilling it over the mesh lets the moisture escape and gives it a nice toasty finish, so you can enjoy the rich flavor of the horse meat.

It also pairs well with their wide selection of local sake from Fukushima Prefecture, and many people seemed to be enjoying it with a drink.

The "Sakura-niku (horse meat) sukiyaki" is also a popular menu item, where you coat the horse meat in raw egg and eat it like sukiyaki. The Hot Pot also includes ingredients such as grilled tofu and green onions.

The meat is said to be meltingly tender, with rich flavor spreading through your mouth.

Tau

There were lots of unusual horse meat dishes, and I also enjoyed many local sake selections from Fukushima. If I get a chance to go again, I’d like to try the horse meat sukiyaki and motsuni (stewed offal). The staff were also very friendly.

A moment to soak in the local food culture as time passes quietly. The pairing of fresh basashi (horse meat sashimi) and local sake was a rich treat that felt unique to Fukushima. The next time I visit, I would also like to try the aburi basashi and sakura-nabe (horse meat Hot Pot).

We toasted with beer and then had red wine. The food was carefully prepared, and the pizza margherita had a thin crust and was delicious. The best dish was the roast beef, so good that I wanted a second serving (lol). The sesamin pasta was like a pasta version of soupless tantanmen (soupless dan dan noodles), and it was tasty.

にっちんりーまん

The lightly seasoned grilled cheese came out piping hot, while the skewers, simmered until tender in a soy sauce based broth, had a richer flavor that paired well with drinks, so it was nice that each dish had its own style of seasoning. It has a home style cooking feel that makes it perfect for a casual drink. It was a nice place where you could enjoy drinks at reasonable prices.

The signature “Ibaraki Tsufu-nabe (Ibaraki gout Hot Pot)” is a Hot Pot made with plenty of oysters, soft roe, and ankimo (monkfish liver). The flavors of the ingredients layer together for a rich taste.

It also pairs very well with Japanese sake, and they recommend enjoying it with local sake.

すもっぴグルメ

It was my first time trying mehikari (greeneyes) Kara-age, and it had a flavor with the slight bitterness you get from shishamo (smelt). I enjoyed it a lot. The soba and the sushi were both delicious too. I also had Oarai, which is probably a local sake, and it was so good that I have been searching all over Tokyo for it.

右大

The tsufo-nabe (gout Hot Pot) had just the right flavor, neither too rich nor too light. They also have snacks that go well with Japanese sake, such as anglerfish Kara-age, mehikari (greeneye fish), and cheese dressed with shuto.

The table turnover is good, and the snack menu is extensive, so it’s perfect for a quick drink〜. I’ll definitely be back! Everything was delicious today too!

パクチー師匠

The biggest feature of the gyoza (Japanese dumplings) here is just how **"light"** they are. The skin is crisp, while the inside is soft and airy. They are not greasy or heavy, so they go down easily without sitting in your stomach. One nice point is that you can enjoy them without guilt even after a serious round of drinks.

aoyama03

Its name is Matsuzaki Shuzo Hirotogawa! Even though it has become so popular that it is hard to get, as expected from a local restaurant, they had it! I enjoyed Tokubetsu Junmai (Special pure rice sake), Junmai Ginjo, and Junmai Daiginjo all together! It was the best Koriyama night with great drinks and food! The Japanese sake was so good that I forgot to take photos of the food (^_^;)

We toasted with highballs. I appreciated their suggestions for seasonal ingredients. Hotaruika (firefly squid) and canola flower with vinegared miso was great as a snack with drinks. The mehikari (greeneye fish) tempura, one of my favorites, was small but tasty. The recommendation is the beef Hanging tender straw-seared black grill, affordable and delicious. The beef skewers were delicious, and the tsukune (chicken meatball skewer) was the best! It was my first visit, and I brought along an old friend who had come from far away to hang out. I heard about it from a coworker in Koriyama and made a reservation before going. At the counter, we enjoyed good drinks and tasty skewers, and got carried away talking about old memories.

chabooo

We had planned a day trip to Sendai by shinkansen (bullet train), but since we still had some time, we headed into an After-Party at Yamauchi Nojo in front of the station. We had already enjoyed plenty of seafood dishes at the first stop, but apparently we still had lots of room left, and dish after dish, including dessert, kept arriving at the table. It is strange how, even though we had already eaten a ton, once the drinks start flowing, even more food somehow finds its way into our stomachs than usual.
