Kyo Yasaka Purin (Kyoto Yasaka Pudding)

Kyo Yasaka Purin is a pudding shop known for the noren (traditional shop curtain) at its entrance. It is close to Yasaka Shrine and Kodaiji Temple, and some people stop by while exploring Kyoto.

All of the items look cute, making them great not only for eating on the go but also as gifts.

Kyoto Yasaka Purin, which layers kanten (agar jelly), fruit, and lemon jelly on top of the pudding, is said to look so exciting that it lifts your mood just by seeing it.

The tartness of the lemon jelly is said to bring out the pudding's rich sweetness.

Another popular menu item at the shop is the cute "purin soft serve" topped with cookies and macarons.

Rich soft serve sits on top of the pudding, making it perfect for eating while walking around on a hot day.

・Kyo Yasaka Purin
The combination of the rich yellow purin (custard pudding) and the fragrant honey jelly was a whole new sensation, and it tasted unlike anything I’d had before! It was also topped with ball-shaped fruit, and when eaten together with the purin, you can enjoy the fruit’s sweetness and the little popping texture too!

I stopped by while sightseeing in Kyoto with a friend visiting from Tokyo. We ordered the Uji matcha (green tea) soft serve mixed with milk soft serve. It was topped with colorful oiri (traditional rice puffs), and it was just so cute and perfect for photos! The size is cute too, and it’s easy to eat while walking around, so I recommend it.

Kitano Purin Harutsuge

Kitano Purin Harutsuge is a pudding shop near Kitano Tenmangu (Kitano Tenmangu Shrine).

With a wide range of flavors and textures, you are likely to find a favorite. It is a great place to stop by for a break while exploring Kyoto.

The shop’s signature “Harutsuge” pudding is popular for its look, which as the name suggests feels like the arrival of spring.

It has two layers, a jelly packed with fruit pulp and a vanilla pudding, and when you mix them together, you can enjoy a different taste.

Purin (Japanese custard pudding) comes in various colors, with a cute look that makes you want to line them up and take photos.

The white “Milk” is served with a salted caramel sauce. The gentle sweetness with just the right touch of salt is said to make it excellent.

A pudding shop near Kitano Tenmangu (Kitano Tenmangu Shrine). They had both firm and soft styles, with lots of different flavors! I had the plain firm one. The eat-in space has benches inside and outside the shop. There is also a photo spot, so you can take cute pictures!

I ordered the matcha pudding. It comes in a glass jar. When I opened the lid and took the first bite, the soft texture of the pudding was followed by the strong aroma of matcha spreading through my mouth. As I kept eating, I found azuki-an (sweet red bean paste) at the bottom of the jar. The pleasant sweetness that is not too strong felt just right.

Purin no Mise Shakumoji

Purin no Mise Shakumoji is a popular pudding shop in Yamashina, Kyoto. It is known for its square-shaped pudding made with fresh cream from Hokkaido and freshly laid eggs.

It is such a popular shop that it can sell out before closing time, so visiting earlier in the day is recommended.

Their signature item is the "nama cream (fresh cream)." The surface is slightly firm, while the inside is very smooth, so you can enjoy the contrast in texture.

With each bite, the flavor of nama cream fills your mouth, and you can savor the rich taste of this pudding without it being too sweet.

The simply styled, pure white "miruku (milk)" looks clean and minimal. It comes in a bottle, which is another nice point because it seems easy to take out.

It has a smooth texture and a rich milk flavor, and they say it tastes even better with the included caramel sauce.

・Fresh cream
The top is a little firm, but the pudding layer is very smooth. The caramel sauce has a nice bittersweet taste, and yet the finish is sweet. This is a really good pudding. I liked it a lot.

The cookies and cream had a fairly strong sweetness, but it was not an overpowering kind of sweet! The milk one was super chewy and jiggly!! It got even better with caramel poured over it! It was a pudding I could eat again and again! It was a great meal

Kyoto Purindo

Kyoto Purindo is a pudding shop said to have been started by a gofukuya (traditional kimono shop). It offers a wide range of flavors with a Japanese feel, such as matcha and hojicha.

The shop has a distinctly Japanese atmosphere inside, and the staff are said to wear kimono as well. It looks like a great place to fully enjoy the Kyoto feel.

The shop’s signature item, Kyo Purin (Kyoto pudding), comes in two types: "firm" and "smooth."

It is known for its rich, dense texture, almost like cheesecake, and the slightly bitter caramel gives it a more grown-up flavor.

The "Purin Ice" is also popular, where you pour a drink over frozen purin (custard pudding) and sip it as it melts.

The purin has an icy, crunchy texture while still keeping its rich flavor. The matcha is said to be especially creamy and excellent.

・Custard
The texture has some firmness when you put a spoon in, but it melts nicely in the mouth and feels smooth. The sweetness is mild, but when you finish the whole jar, it leaves just the right lingering note, making it a wonderful item. I enjoyed it very much. It was a great meal.

This pudding is served in a really lovely space! The hojicha (roasted green tea) pudding had a clear hojicha aroma, and you could also really taste the rich eggy flavor of the pudding. It was delicious!! The pudding latte comes with a different flavor on top depending on the variety! The bottom was icy with a slightly crunchy texture, and it was tasty!
