Nakau Kyoto Hachijoguchi Ten

Nakau Kyoto Hachijoguchi Ten is a gyudon (beef bowl) chain restaurant on the 1st floor of the Daiichi Doboku Building, just after you leave Kyoto Station from the Hachijo West Exit and cross the crosswalk on Hachijo-dori.

The interior is bright and easy to enter. The food is served quickly and the hours are long, so you can use it for all kinds of occasions, from breakfast to a late night meal.

The "Gyu-suki Rice bowl" is an original menu item from Nakau, arranged in a sukiyaki style from gyudon (beef bowl). It simmers beef, shiro-negi (Japanese long onion), shirataki (konjac noodles), tofu, and more in a sweet and savory soy sauce broth.

It has a light, mildly sweet seasoning with a good Japanese dashi flavor. Yakumi (condiments) such as sansho (Japanese pepper) and chili pepper are said to pair well with it.

Oyako-don (chicken and egg Rice bowl) is a popular dish, with soft chicken wrapped in fluffy egg. The rich taste of the egg and its smooth texture get great reviews.

The soft-cooked egg with savory Japanese dashi broth mixes perfectly with the rice and chicken for a great bite. It seems many people also enjoy it as a set with udon or soba.

I ordered the beef sukiyaki Rice bowl. Nakau was originally a gyudon (beef bowl) chain, but gyudon disappeared from the menu and oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl) became the main item. Even so, since a beef dish had returned to the menu in the form of a beef sukiyaki Rice bowl, I ordered it. It has a sukiyaki style feel with shirataki noodles, but the seasoning is more like gyudon, and I think it tastes good.

みょんです

After about a 5-minute wait, my number was called. So fast! A real oyako-don (chicken and egg Rice bowl). The golden color of the egg yolk is dazzling. It feels like it is saying, good morning! The steaming rice, the delicious soft-set egg, and the plump evenly sized chicken all mingle nicely with the dashi broth. The richness is just right, satisfying without feeling heavy.

Yoshinoya Kyoto Hachijoguchi Ten

Yoshinoya Kyoto Hachijoguchi Ten is about a 5-minute walk west from Kyoto Station’s Hachijo West Exit. This is a self-service gyudon (beef Rice bowl) restaurant where you can enjoy tasty beef Rice bowls and set meals.

The interior is bright, clean, and easy to walk into. It is easy to use whether you are alone or with a group. Besides Rice bowls, the set meal menu is also popular.

"Gyudon (beef rice bowl)" has a light, classic taste, made by simmering beef belly and onions in a soy sauce based tare sauce. Simple as it is, people say it has a smooth texture and goes perfectly with rice.

Many people also enjoy it their own way, such as adding egg or natto (fermented soybeans), or topping it with lots of yakumi (condiments).

The breakfast menu item Asa-tei (standard Japanese breakfast set) is a popular choice that lets you enjoy a standard Japanese breakfast. It comes with grilled fish and kobachi (small side dishes), and people like it for its well balanced ichiju-sansai (one soup, three dishes) meal.

If you choose the set that comes with a gyudon topping called gyu-kobachi (small beef side dish), you can put it over rice and enjoy a mini gyudon Rice bowl too.

The gyudon (beef Rice bowl) had its usual reliable flavor, and the just-right sauce soaked nicely into the rice. When mixed with sticky natto (fermented soybeans), it was a great match! It added a milder taste and made the rice go down fast. The crisp green onions added a nice textural accent, making it an energizing bowl to start the day.

Ponsuke.

I ordered Yoshinoya's morning gyudon (beef bowl) set for breakfast! First, I ordered at the counter, then when the food was ready, the buzzer they gave me went off and I went to pick it up. I chose a soft-boiled egg for the set and ate it on top of the gyudon! The soft-boiled egg and the extra-saucy gyudon went so well together that my mouth was very happy.

There is also a wide range of flavors that are unique to these limited offerings, such as "tori no dote-ni style Hot Pot" and "shkmeruli." Collaboration menu items with characters are also said to be popular.

三鍋口子

It was my first time trying it, but personally I like Matsuya (Japanese beef bowl chain)'s beef Rice bowl best because it has a lighter taste. It also comes with salad and miso soup, so it was very easy to eat. I wish there were a Matsuya nearby.

of Life

While walking around near where I was staying to grab a quick dinner, I got in the mood for tonjiru (pork miso soup) too, so I visited this place. I chose a regular gyudon (beef Rice bowl), tonjiru, and an onsen tamago (soft cooked egg). As always, it was ready quickly, my ticket number was called, and I picked it up and took it back to my seat. It turned into an easy, tasty, and enjoyable Matsuya meal, hitting the spot with exactly what I was in the mood to eat at just the right time.

I usually get the takana mentaiko Rice bowl, but for the first time in a while I ordered the cheese gyudon (beef Rice bowl) medium-size lunch set. It comes with miso soup. Tabasco is a must for cheese gyudon. It tastes really great with some on top! I finished it in no time.

There is someone here who shows you to your seat. Their specialty is gyu-nikomi (simmered beef). It is simmered in a sweet and savory sauce and tastes great. I poured it over rice and had it as a beef Rice bowl.
