[Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture] Stylish Kissaten (Japanese coffee shop)

Zero Roku Hommachi Ten

Established in 1913, Ze-Roku is a kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shop) that has been in business for many years. It is about a 3-minute walk along Hondori from Exit 13 of Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station.

On a street lined with modern buildings, its antique storefront in a renovated old building seems to stand out as a landmark.

Inside, the nostalgic space is lined with well-used wooden tables and chairs. The interior is compact, with only about three tables.

The menu is simple, with coffee, tea, and ice cream. Every item has a taste that has been loved for years.

The coffee beans are roasted in house at the shop. Served in antique cups, the coffee makes you want to slow down and savor it.

The shop's specialty, "Ice Monaka," sandwiches refreshing milk flavored ice cream between crisp wafers made from glutinous rice, the ingredient used in Japanese sweets.

・Ice Monaka
Since they make it after you order, the monaka wafer stays nice and crisp, while the ice cream has a light milk flavor with a gentle, nostalgic taste like ice kurin (old style Japanese ice cream). At this price with coffee as a set, it is easy on the wallet and much appreciated when you want to take a short break.

ただのメシ喰い

Ze-Roku, a Showa era kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shop) brought back to life in the Reiwa era! Its appearance practically radiates history. The place has real character—no, it is nothing but character—and that atmosphere is just wonderful. Coffee in a space like this naturally tastes extra special. The ice monaka (ice cream wafer sandwich) was excellent too. The texture and just-right richness were amazing.

It’s very stylish. It was 12:00 on Sunday, but there were quite a few open seats. It feels more like a kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) than a cafe, but the interior is very stylish. Even the furnishings are very thoughtfully selected. I was able to spend a quiet and relaxing time there. It also seems like a great spot for a night cafe! ①Iced cafe au lait. The coffee is quite clean, with acidity and richness.

A stylish and fairly quiet kissaten (traditional Japanese cafe) with good access near the station. It was great! This time, I had the standard Ethiopian coffee and a whipped cream dessert. The whipped cream was light and easy to eat, with a fine texture that was unbelievably good. The number of seats was also well balanced, making for a calm and relaxing space!

I went when it opened at 11:00. I was seated right away, and the shop was quiet and comfortable. It had a stylish atmosphere, and the coffee was very good. I also bought a bear-shaped financier as a souvenir, and it is a place I would like to visit again.

Iamhoo

The cakes were beautiful and delicious. The jelly was shiny, which made them look even prettier. The coffee ☕︎ is balanced in bitterness, richness, acidity, and a clean finish. The staff member in white was kind and gave me, as a first-time visitor, a detailed introduction to the coffee, and that was also a nice point.

I had no idea there was a jun-kissa (classic Japanese coffee shop) like this above Bread, Espresso &. They even had parfaits and shaved ice made with seasonal peaches, so of course I ordered the peach items. They were very good. The interior is retro and stylish. It has a hideaway feel, and you can relax and take your time.

A fruit sandwich cafe run by Pan to Espresso to. The fruit is juicy and fresh, and I like how the cream is mild and well balanced. The bread is thinly sliced and soft, making the fruit and cream easy to enjoy. It was quiet and nostalgic, and I was able to relax and lose track of time.

はまなはま

The frontage was quite small, but it had a nice atmosphere and a look that made me expect something good. Once inside, it felt much more spacious and calm than I had imagined. My seat was in a room toward the back, and it felt a little separated from the rest, but that made it pleasantly quiet. I ordered the ginger pork set meal + coffee. It tasted a little light, but I enjoyed it.

There are tables for two and tables for four, and the bright interior gives the place a calm atmosphere. This is a coffee shop where you can enjoy light meals and set meals, and on this day I ordered the Omurice: JPY1,000. It came with either soup or salad, and I chose the soup. The spicy chicken rice wrapped in egg was really tasty. It was a classic, old-style delicious Omurice.

筋肉うしじま

I wandered around near the office looking for lunch. It is usually more like a coffee shop & bar, but at lunchtime it was packed. The daily special that day was ginger pork. I added fried horse mackerel as a topping. It was very filling. The curry also caught my eye, but I think I will try it next time. I recommend it for everyday use.

A coffee shop with a calm atmosphere that suddenly appears in the middle of the office district. Until 13:00, you choose from the lunch menu, and I selected the Hamburger Steak + minced meat cutlet. It already looked delicious, but the moment I took a bite, I knew I had picked a winner. The rich flavor of the meat was packed in, and you could tell it was made with care.

This shop has become famous nationwide, and now fans from around the world visit through social media. The coffee, extracted over 50 minutes, has a rich, condensed, luxurious taste. ・Ganso jukusei tarushikomi hyoon coffee (original ice temperature coffee aged in barrels) 30 years old
One sip will change how you think about coffee. Even though nothing but coffee is added, it tastes sweet.... Just like whisky or wine, that comes from the barrel components slowly seeping out over many years. Even in this amount, you can tell how the complex finish settles onto your taste buds.

Stylish kissaten (Japanese coffee shop) in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture

New Astoria

New Astoria is a coffee shop in Senri Chuo Station, the hub of Senri New Town, a large-scale new residential area in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture. It is located inside the attached shopping arcade Senchu Pal.

The shop is in the south area of the basement floor. It is said to have kept the same calm atmosphere since it first opened in 1970.

This popular shop is open from morning until evening, and on some days there can be a line.

A popular menu item is the katsu sando (pork cutlet sandwich). The bread is toasted to a crisp, fragrant finish, and it is filled with a thick piece of fried pork. The balance between the good flavor of the pork and the sweetness of the vegetables is said to be excellent.

The photo shows mixed juice, a thick drink made by blending fruit with milk and other ingredients that was first created at kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shops) in Osaka in the 1950s.

They also serve an old style drink called milkshake, made with milk, egg yolk, and sugar, and both the atmosphere and the flavors have a retro feel.

シウマイ~

A warm, cozy atmosphere fills the place. The katsu sando (pork cutlet sandwich) I had been wanting to try had a crisp coating, the vegetables added a nice texture, and it was very good. The prices are already easy on the wallet to begin with, and I was touched by the thoughtful service of taking JPY200 off when you order a drink.

グルタミン酸333

It may be a long-established spot, but even today it still delivers that eye-catching cross-section appeal! The sweetness of the onion and tomato, the crispy yet juicy cutlet, and the slight kick of pepper all came together in a textbook katsu sando (cutlet sandwich), and it really surprised me! The mixed juice also had that classic, familiar old-school taste that makes you want to drink it down in big gulps!

[Kadoma City and Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture] Stylish kissaten (Japanese coffee shops)

Rizarubu Kohee Ten

Rizalbu Kohiten is a coffee specialty shop in Takatsuki City, located almost midway between Osaka and Kyoto. It stands along the Saigoku Kaido (old highway), an area that has long been a key transportation hub.

Set in a quiet residential neighborhood, the shop is easy to spot by its wooden lattice door. The interior is a calm space based on dark brown tones. You can also look into the room where the coffee roaster is kept, it seems.

A kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) centered on house-roasted coffee. They offer several kinds of coffee with different roast levels, and also sell coffee beans.

The coffee, carefully brewed one cup at a time by hand drip after each order comes in, is said to be very good.

The food menu has only pound cake and cheesecake. Both are made with flavors that pair well with coffee.

The cheesecake made with cream cheese also uses miso (fermented soybean paste), giving it a deep flavor that brings out the taste of the coffee.

トラッキー兄さん13

This time, I had their signature menu item, the Reserve Blend medium-dark roast. Carefully hand-dripped, this cup opens with a deep, rich body from the first sip, followed by a surprisingly clean finish. The balance of bitterness and sweetness is spot on, and it truly feels like, “Ah, I’m drinking really good coffee.”

This coffee shop has a lovely exterior and sits quietly in a residential neighborhood, with a nice atmosphere where you can hear conversations between local regulars. At the same time, it never felt exclusive, and it was very comfortable. The miso (fermented soybean paste) cheesecake was delicious! The interior was lovely too.

Jun Kissa to Sweets PARLOUR Largo Lalaport Kadoma Ten is a cafe located in Lalaport Kadoma, a large commercial complex in Kadoma, Osaka Prefecture. The name comes from largo, the musical term meaning “slowly.”

The interior has a warm feel with lots of wood. With sofa seats and box seats, it seems like an easy place to relax even with children.

“Junkissa (traditional Japanese coffeehouse)” refers to a kissaten (Japanese-style cafe) that does not serve alcohol and focuses mainly on sweets and drinks. This shop is said to be modeled after a coffeehouse from around 1930.

The “Junkissa Purin” is a firm pudding with a simple, nostalgic taste. The slightly bitter caramel sauce seems to go well with coffee.

They offer a wide range of stylish sweets, including parfaits and cakes. The doughnuts also come in great variety, from simple ones to ones coated in matcha (green tea) chocolate.

They also have afternoon tea and an All you can eat doughnut course, making this seem like the kind of place where you will want to relax and stay awhile.

COMこむたろう

I visited Largo, a jun-kissa (traditional Japanese coffee shop), at LaLaport Kadoma. The pudding was a little firm, with lots of caramel, and it was delicious. The old-fashioned doughnut with white chocolate and pistachio was also delicious. The hot coffee had no off notes and tasted great.

I booked the sweets buffet course. It was a doughnut fair, so I could try a wide variety of doughnuts, and there were also other sweets, plus pasta and sandwiches, so I left Manpuku and very satisfied with the food! The bread was soft and chewy, and even though I was full, once I took one bite, I wanted another, and I just could not stop eating because it was so good!!
