Akira Curry

About a 9-minute walk from Hommachi Station. Akira Curry operates as a weekly changing curry shop during the day and a spice bar at night.

The cozy, homey interior has counter seating on the 1st floor and table seating on the 2nd floor. Since it is a popular spot, there is often a line.

The vividly yellow "kasho chicken keema spice fried rice cream omelet curry" really stands out.

This dish pairs spice fried rice wrapped in a soft and creamy omelet with rich creamy curry. The fresh aroma and sharp heat of kasho (Sichuan pepper) are said to really whet the appetite.

This is the "Chicken Masala with kumquat raita over spice fried rice and sakekasu (sake lees) and Brussels sprout keema."

This dish has an excellent balance between the keema with the flavor of sakekasu and the spicy chicken. The fresh tasting kumquat raita is said to be so good that you will keep coming back for more.

・Spiced fried rice topped with chicken nankotsu (cartilage) miso keema and dashi tororo, and clam and spinach curry
The crunchy texture of the chicken nankotsu is excellent! The tororo makes it even more appetizing, and it goes down so easily. The Japanese-style dashi has a clam texture that is just irresistible.

Is this curry almost like curry ochazuke (rice with tea poured over it)? The roux is very smooth and runny. The spice really comes through in the roux. The side dishes, with vegetables and beans, feel almost artistic. I really liked the level of heat too! I ended up finishing it smoothly, almost like drinking it down. It was delicious♪

Haraiso Sparkle

Haraiso Sparkle, about a 10-minute walk from Motomachi Station, is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy creative curry and spice dishes.

The bright red walls make a strong impression, and the cozy interior has counter seats only. It is said to have a homey, comfortable atmosphere.

The signature dish is the soupy "katsu curry chazuke (cutlet curry over rice with broth)," packed with rich dashi flavor.

The tonkatsu (pork cutlet) is marinated in spices and yogurt like tandoori chicken before frying, so it tastes lighter than it looks. It is topped with Japanese ingredients like nori (seaweed), takuan (pickled daikon), kaiware (radish sprouts), and pickled plum.

One month, they served "mochi-buta (pork) topped with persimmon and black vinegar sauce, with greens ginger keema and sweet potato lemon potage."

This creative dish, with persimmon topped over kakuni (braised pork belly), is said to offer an excellent balance of spices, the rich flavor of the braised pork, and the fresh sweetness of the persimmon.

・Today's lavish feast curry (mala sag keema with pork and shungiku (garland chrysanthemum)) and (Chinese-style thick sauce with nori seaweed, mushrooms, and ginger)
This is delicious! The spices really come through, and it's excellent. It tastes great even when you eat (Each) one on its own, but when you mix them well together, it gets even deeper and tastes outstanding.

There are two kinds of curry on the menu: the standard vegetable curry and the limited curry of the day, and I had the fully loaded vegetable curry. The vegetables were excellent, and the paprikas, mushrooms, onions, apples, and more made it a dish with plenty of texture to enjoy.

・Chicken Kara-age Samchiki Curry
The roux has a standard, home-style flavor that feels warm and comforting, while the Kara-age topping stands out like the star of the dish! The coating is crisp, and the juices burst out from inside, making it an irresistible match with the curry. It was a great lunch.

The interior is decorated in Tibetan style. There are zashiki (raised tatami seating where you take off your shoes) seats and table seats, so you can relax and enjoy your time.

The "Nepal Set" is plated with basmati rice, Tibetan curry, dal curry, papad, and other items.

The light Tibetan curry is said to be almost like a soup with chunky pieces of pork. It is nicely spiced, but mild in heat and easy to eat.

The "B Set" is a set with two kinds of curry, plus salad, soup, chicken tikka, and more.

The curries on this day were two kinds: shrimp and butter chicken. The freshly baked naan is served piping hot and crisp, and is said to be very good. It is also nice that refills are free.

・Tibet Curry Set
When I asked the staff, they said most Tibetan curry is like soup curry and comes with a variety of ingredients. The soup curry was spicy, full of good flavor, and went well with the naan. It had chunky pieces of pork and potato in it. The naan had both chewy parts and crisp parts, and it was tasty.

・Nepal Set
The curry comes in 2 kinds. The light dal has the deep, wholesome taste of mung beans. With papad and chapati, the buta-niku (pork) to horenso (spinach) tarkari is almost like a soup, but it has richness and good flavor that go well with basmati rice!

Both are packed with rich meaty flavor and are very satisfying to eat. The fresh tang of the lemon slice adds a nice accent.

しいたけほねピー

I ordered the Sour Chicken Rice (small). Just like the restaurant name suggests, the rice was shaped like a point! The sour chicken was not too heavy on the spices, and the heat level was just right! I got a free nibuta (simmered egg) by adding them on LINE!

I visited for lunch on a weekday. I ordered the B set. For the curry, I chose keema curry and the daily special (chicken and shiitake mushrooms). It was simply good. Since naan refills were free, I got another naan too. I could also order lassi, so the cost performance was very good.

・B Lunch
The freshly baked naan comes out piping hot, with a crispy surface and a light touch of sweetness. On this day, I chose the chicken curry and the daily curry. At the normal spice level, it is not very spicy, but the curry still tastes great.

Furukutasu Sakaba

About a 5-minute walk from Hommachi Station. Furukutasu Sakaba is an izakaya (Japanese pub) where you can enjoy craft beer and spice curry.

The refined interior has a standing counter as well as table seating. It has a homey atmosphere, making it easy to drop in casually.

One day’s lunch menu had three options: A "lamb rendang," B "mapo pork keema curry," and C "Combination (A+B)."

The "Combination" is a deluxe plate where you can enjoy the rich flavor of both pork and lamb. It also comes with a good variety of side dishes, making it very satisfying.

It is a Combination of "Kagoshima kurobuta (Berkshire pork) bara-niku (pork belly) balsamic Kaku-ni (braised pork belly) vindaloo" and "sansho (Japanese pepper) and yuzu (Japanese citrus) pork keema curry."

The pairing of generously sized chunks of kurobuta Kaku-ni and the tangy balsamic sauce is said to feel fresh.

Today's lunch curry‼︎ The lamb was hearty and meaty, the keema brought together the best of dashi (Japanese soup stock), spices, and Chinese flavors, and the side dishes were seasoned really well too, making this a high-level spice curry✨

The chicken is a bit mild, while the pork leans into sourness and heat. I’m happy to have found authentic spice curry again after a long time. It was so good〜.

・Original Curry Half Set
Today’s curry was pork and satsumaimo (sweet potato) apple keema. It was just the right portion for me. The potage curry was delicious. I was happy to have lots of little side dishes on the plate. I enjoyed it while changing up the flavors.
