Kai to Sakana to Robata no Banbi

Kai to Sakana to Robata no Banbi is a popular izakaya around the west exit of Kita-Senju Station, known for serving very fresh seafood.

The stylish hideaway atmosphere gets great reviews. If you want to watch the lively cooking action, the counter seats are recommended, while table seating is a good choice if you want to relax and enjoy conversation.

Among the many seafood options, the restaurant’s top recommendation is the “Asadore Sengyo to Kai Sashimi Moriawase (assortment of sashimi made with freshly caught fish and shellfish)”.

This dish lets you enjoy fresh fish and shellfish landed that day in a simple way. People say everything is rich and tasty with plenty of fat. It is something you will want to enjoy with their wide selection of Japanese sake.

The “Wara Kaoru Smoke Carpaccio” is a highly entertaining dish in which fresh fish and shellfish are seared with straw right in front of you.

The smoked ingredients carry the aroma of wara (straw), and part of the appeal is getting to enjoy the look, aroma, and flavor all at once.

A younger colleague from work took me to this hidden spot that only those in the know seem to know about, with not even a signboard out front. I was excited even before going in, and once inside, I found a stylish space with the charm of an old kominka (traditional Japanese house). It really felt like a warm welcome. Every dish was delicious, and the whole experience was great.

Tachiataru

Tachiataru, a standing bar izakaya (Japanese-style pub) just a 2-minute walk from the west exit of Kitasenju Station, is a great choice when you want to casually enjoy drinks and food in a small group.

The interior is calm and not overly flashy, making it just the right space to enjoy conversation and drinks. It can accommodate about 18 people.

The photo shows one of the popular signature dishes since the restaurant first opened, “Meibutsu!! Tori Kawa no Nikomi (Signature!! Simmered Chicken Skin).” The chicken skin is slowly simmered until tender in a broth that is topped up every day, and it is said to be excellent.

One thing drink lovers will appreciate is the very extensive alcohol menu.

With seasonal Japanese sake gathered from around Japan and a wide variety of sours, you are sure to find a favorite drink.

Each dish is carefully prepared, and the lineup works well whether you pair it with drinks or enjoy it as a meal. The presentation also feels clean, and because it is not too flashy, it left a good impression as a place that is easy to use for everyday dining. The drink menu covers the classics while offering a lineup chosen with the food in mind, which makes it easy to pick something.

When you open the door, the first thing you notice is the lighting, which is neither too bright nor too dim. It gives the whole space a calm feel while still leaving a stylish impression. The layout centered around the counter is compact yet efficient, and while it has the lively closeness unique to tachinomi (standing bar) style drinking, it keeps a nice balance that never feels cramped.

The food is based on Chinese cuisine, but the menu also has creative dishes, and everything was seasoned well to pair with alcohol and tasted great! What stood out most was the gyuniku shumai (beef shumai) topped generously with uni (sea urchin). The rich flavor of the meat and the creamy depth of the uni came together in a dish that is hard to find elsewhere. There were also many other options, including stir fries and fried dishes, so it looked like a place you could enjoy without getting bored.

The "5 vegetable assortment of lightly deep-fried vegetables" I came for was great no matter which one I ate, so if you like vegetables, you should definitely order it! Also, the "crispy half fried young chicken" was nice because you could change up the flavor with yuzu (Japanese citrus), curry powder, shichimi (Japanese seven-spice blend), and more, so I enjoyed it all the way to the last bite!

I had been curious about the gin-saba kushiyaki (silver mackerel skewer) I saw on Tabelog. It was incredibly thick and full of rich fat. Even so, it wasn’t heavy. It was fragrant and sweet. It was unbelievably good‼︎I really enjoyed plenty of fish with the saba 3-kind platter, seafood salad, then drank with fried burdock root and mozuku-su (vinegared mozuku seaweed), and finished with senbei-jiru (cracker soup), tsuke Rice bowl, and tororo rice. I was completely Manzoku. The fish was just so good.

They also have a full lineup of sours made with local Kyushu fruits, such as Miyazaki mango sour and Fukuoka Amaou (strawberry) sour, so even those with a sweet tooth can enjoy them to the fullest.

野球バカ1975

I had been curious about this place for a long time but never got around to going, and once in a while I wanted to look around the East Exit area and enjoy Kyushu ryori (Kyushu cuisine) at a place that looked promising, so I visited. I like Imo Shochu, so I had it on the rocks, and the otoshi (table appetizer), yudofu (simmered tofu) with a nice dashi flavor, was good too. I had sashimi of buri (yellowtail) and kanpachi (greater amberjack), vinegared motsu (offal), toriten (chicken tempura), and mehikari (greeneyes) tempura.

ケンみゆ

The motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot) is excellent, with a sweet and very tasty broth and rich fat from the motsu. The udon To finish was also good. You order drinks by mobile order, and they arrive incredibly fast, so I feel like I got drunk a little quicker than usual (lol). I think it’s a very good restaurant!

Hananomai Kita-Senju Ten

Hana no Mai Kitasenju Ten is just a 1-minute walk from Kitasenju Station, and offers a wide range of seafood dishes along with plenty of izakaya-style a la carte items that go well with alcohol.

The interior has a calm Japanese-style atmosphere, with counter seats, table seating, and Private room available. It looks easy to use whether you are dining alone or in a group.

A fish tank is installed inside the restaurant, which is a nice touch because you can enjoy freshly prepared live fish at its freshest.

The popular menu item "sashimi assortment" pairs perfectly with Japanese sake and shochu. It tastes great not only with soy sauce, but also with Himalayan rock salt.

They also offer course menus that come with All you can drink options, including a wide range of drinks such as highballs, sours, and cocktails.

They also have a varied lineup of non-alcoholic drinks and soft drinks, so people who do not like alcohol can feel at ease.

カネミ2088

Since this izakaya specializes in seafood, I ordered an osashimi assortment (sashimi assortment). It was fresh and very filling, and the tuna and salmon were especially good. I also ordered classic izakaya menu items like Kara-age and dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet), and everything had a reliably good taste that left me satisfied. The menu has a wide variety of options, so I think it works well for any occasion.

The interior is spacious, with plenty of table seating, Sunken kotatsu seating, and Private room options, so it works well for all kinds of occasions. The atmosphere is lively yet calm, and I was able to enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace. As the name suggests, the menu offers a wide range of dishes made with fresh seafood. The sashimi assortment in particular was excellent, with each piece firm and tasty.

Okinawa Shoten Shimura

Okinawa Shoten Shimura is a popular izakaya where you can enjoy Okinawa ryori (Okinawan cuisine) made with ingredients shipped directly from Okinawa, along with a wide variety of Okinawan drinks.

Inside the old folk house style building, Okinawan folk songs play, and the local atmosphere can be felt in many details, from the decor to the drinking glasses.

The drink menu is packed with options that let you soak up the Okinawa mood, and if you enjoy alcohol, you will definitely want to try authentic local craft beer and Ryukyu Awamori (Okinawan distilled liquor).

They also have Okinawa style sours and non-alcoholic drinks such as mango and guava, so even people who do not drink much or cannot drink alcohol can fully enjoy themselves.

The food menu also offers many specialties unique to Okinawa. Umi-budo (sea grapes) with its popping texture and the classic favorite goya champuru (bitter melon stir-fry) are must try dishes.

If you like sweets, famous Okinawan desserts such as Blue Seal Ice Cream and sata andagi (Okinawan doughnuts) are recommended.

油淋鶏と小籠包

The atmosphere was nice, and the counter seats were comfortable too. They have a wide selection of drinks, so I always have a hard time deciding what to get. They also had a lot of awamori (Okinawan distilled spirit). The glasses were cute. The food was good too, and many of the staff were kind, which made me want to go back again. The mimigā (pig ear) salt sauce yukhoe was delicious.

東京、千葉グルメ

The Agu gyoza (Okinawan pork dumplings) were juicy and very tasty. They also had a wide selection of drinks, which was great. It was my first time trying awamori (Okinawan distilled spirit) with coffee, and it was easy to drink. Every dish was good, and since there are Semi-private room seats on the first floor, you can relax and spend your time comfortably.

Yakitori-ya Sumire Kitasenju Ten

Yakitori-ya Sumire Kitasenju Ten is an izakaya about a 3-minute walk from Kitasenju Station, where you can enjoy yakitori and other dishes and drinks made with Daisen-dori (Tottori brand chicken).

The restaurant has a stylish wood toned interior and a cozy feel that makes it easy to visit whether you are on your own or with a group.

The yakitori made with carefully selected Daisen-dori (Daisen chicken) is said to let you taste the rich, concentrated flavor that comes from chicken raised with great care.

One especially popular item is the "Osama Reba (King Liver)." So you can fully enjoy the taste of Daisen-dori, they use a whole chicken’s worth of liver on a single skewer.

If you want to enjoy drinks to the fullest, the good value All you can drink menu comes recommended. It seems many people also enjoy All you can drink together with a course meal.

They offer a wide range of drinks, including draft beer, sour cocktails, and shochu (Japanese distilled spirit). They also have a good selection of sweeter drinks, such as wine soda and umeshu (plum wine).

The otoshi (small appetizer) cabbage was so good that even though refills were free, I ended up asking for it again and again lol. The mikan sour also came with a whole mikan (mandarin orange), and I really appreciated that you could even get a refill of the mikan too. As for the main yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), every choice felt like a winner, and everything was really tasty.

らっここらっこ

Besides the à la carte dishes, they also have a wide selection of Oyama-dori (brand chicken) yakitori, tsukune (chicken meatballs), creative skewers, and desserts, and everything was delicious. The "Oburi Kaki Kushi Garlic Butter Shoyu" in particular had large, plump oysters, and the "Chiipi Maki" had crisp green pepper with tasty, fragrant pork and melty cheese, so good that I ordered it again.

Mingei Chaya Sarutan

Mingei Chaya Sarutan is an izakaya (Japanese pub) with a long 54-year history, located a 4-minute walk from the west exit of Kitasenju Station. You can casually enjoy a range of high-quality fugu (pufferfish) dishes here.

The interior has a calm kominka (old Japanese house)-style atmosphere, and in addition to counter and table seating, it also has zashiki (tatami seating) where you can relax.

You can enjoy a wide range of fugu (pufferfish) dishes all year round, made with fugu sourced from Choshi, Chiba Prefecture, including the beautiful-looking "fugu sogimi (thin-sliced pufferfish)" and juicy "fugu no Kara-age".

To go with the food, they recommend "fugu no hirezake," made with Kanzake and fragrant, lightly grilled Tenderloin of fugu.

The beef stew at this old school yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) restaurant, passed down from the previous owner, is also one of its signature dishes. It is served with bread.

The combination of tender beef belly simmered slowly for 4 to 5 hours and a rich sauce is said to be irresistible. It is described as a dish that warms both body and soul.

おたふくソースさん

To go with the fugu (pufferfish) dishes, start with piping hot Hirezake. Hot sake in summer is great too. The course sticks to the classics: tessa (thin-sliced pufferfish sashimi), fugu Kara-age, and fugu Hot Pot. Every dish is great. The volume and value for money at this price are so good. The zosui to finish is truly excellent. It really brings out the flavor of the fugu. This was my first visit to Sarutan, and I left very Manzoku. The retro feel of the interior is great too!

guistar

One after another, pufferfish dishes keep coming out, from pufferfish sashimi to Hot Pot. Every one of them is delicious. It has no off notes and goes well with everything. Since I was here, I paired it with the restaurant's namesake Japanese sake, and both the drinks and my chopsticks kept moving. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also very nice, and ringing the bell hanging from the ceiling left an impression.
