They are good whether you eat them with sauce or keep it light with vinegar and pepper.

The "yogan-yaki (lava stone grill) assortment" is a popular menu item that lets you grill meat on a lava stone plate. The plate is compact and does not take up much space.

Overall, the food lineup is very varied. Along with meat and cheese dishes, they also offer izakaya-style menu items like gyoza and okizuke (seafood marinated in soy sauce), so I think this is a restaurant that works well for all kinds of occasions.

Neo Taishu Izakaya Lotus

Neo Taishu Izakaya Lotus is a stylish izakaya about a 5-minute walk from the west exit of Utsunomiya Station, with a modern interior and retro decor.

This restaurant is popular for its stylish creative dishes and its cute cream soda sour. It offers plenty of food and drinks you can enjoy with both your eyes and your taste buds.

The "Utsunomiya! Yaki-Gyoza (pan-fried dumplings)" is a popular menu item that feels very Utsunomiya, with crispy winged skin. People say the juicy meat juices that burst out when you bite into it go great with drinks.

Besides yaki-gyoza, you can also enjoy "Age-Gyoza (deep-fried dumplings)" and "Yude-Gyoza (boiled dumplings)".

The “Shifuku no Dashimaki Tamatebako” features dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet) served in a tamatebako (treasure box). Its stylish presentation is part of its appeal.

The omelet comes covered with plenty of piping hot dashi broth, soaked through with flavor and soft and fluffy in texture. They also say the aroma that rises the moment you open the lid is amazing.

While it is based on Showa-retro (retro Showa-era style), it also feels stylish and modern somehow. It feels as if you have slipped back in time to an old tavern, yet it still clearly feels like the present, creating a strange kind of space. The moment you pass under the gray arch, the noise outside suddenly fades away, and it feels almost like stepping into a secret hideout.

When you pass through the noren (traditional shop curtain), the bright interior and the lively voices of the staff welcome you, and you naturally start to relax. The menu has a wide range of options, from classics like yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and Kara-age to creative small plates, which makes it easy to choose casually! (Each) small plate pairs perfectly with the drinks, and I found myself reaching for another glass.

_.cho

This is a place where both robata (fireside grilling) and oden (Japanese one pot dish) take center stage, and the level of Manzoku is high. The oden has a gentle dashi broth, and the daikon radish in particular was well seasoned all the way through. The robatayaki is nicely aromatic, and both the fish and vegetables show the quality of the ingredients. The interior has a calm Japanese feel, and it naturally slows the pace of conversation.

What surprised me first was the “oden (Japanese stew) assortment” served as the otoshi (small appetizer). On top of that, this generous service is All you can eat, so I ended up getting refills of the well seasoned daikon radish and eggs again and again. The oden broth had a refined, clear taste, while still packed with rich umami, and the more I ate, the warmer both my stomach and heart felt.

Since I went to Utsunomiya, I figured I should make the most of it and have gyoza, so after looking around I visited this place. It has more than just gyoza, with a menu full of options and the feel of a Western-style izakaya (Japanese pub). There are many kinds of gyoza, and each one has its own originality. The non-gyoza dishes are good too.

I never knew wine could pair so well with gyoza (dumplings),,! The gyoza had slightly thick, chewy wrappers. The creative variations based on the classic gyoza were all tasty too. The gyoza ahijo was also quite original and interesting.

Each gyoza (Japanese dumpling) has its own theme, and the combinations of ingredients and balance of spices are excellent. What stood out most was how the texture of the gyoza wrapper came together with the filling. It felt like they went beyond the usual idea of gyoza and reached a very high level as a dish. The quick highball Sokuhai (quick highball) is ready to drink when you pull the lever on the table toward you. It feels a bit strong, but if you push the lever back, carbonated water comes out. Being able to mix it yourself to just the right tasty balance has that kind of fun you only get with self service.

Each dish seemed delicate and carefully made, and the meal kept them satisfied from start to finish. It is also a nice touch that the closing dish is an optional uni (sea urchin) Rice bowl. Even the chopsticks smell wonderfully fragrant, and beyond the food itself, the experience seems to have a sense of grace that speaks to all five senses. It was my first time at a place where you grill the food yourself, and it was incredibly fun! The best part of this self grilling style is that you can cook at your own pace on the grill set into the table. The chicken is exceptionally fresh, and when you grill it slowly over charcoal, it turns crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside.

I enjoyed the mentaiko (spicy cod roe) motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot)! The mild heat and rich flavor of the mentaiko mixed with the motsu, and the deep taste spread through my mouth. The motsu was fresh, and to top it off, adding rice at the end to make mentaiko risotto was the best part. The otoshi (small appetizer) was tasty too. I’d love to go again!

It was a really comfortable place. The staff were kind too. The omelet-style takoyaki (octopus balls) dish was eaten with broth like Akashiyaki (octopus dumplings in broth), and I want to have it again!! The udon that was kind of like Napolitan pasta? was good too. Even though it is a chain restaurant, it was quite a nice place, and I would like to visit again.

The grilled Horumon is absolutely top notch. The plump, springy Horumon has amazing flavor, and it mixes with the vegetables and spicy miso for a really tasty bite. The jidori (local chicken) charcoal grill and the corn dishes are also very good, and the food stands out from just about anywhere else.
