[Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture] Stylish Cafes

Waguri Kashi kiito (Japanese chestnut sweets)

Waguri Kashi kiito is a cafe jointly produced by a waguri (Japanese chestnut) specialty shop in Kyoto and a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) in Atami City.

The interior has the warmth of wood and a calm, stylish feel. In addition to eat-in service, they also offer sweets for Takeout.

At the cafe, you can enjoy house-made sweets made with ingredients from Shizuoka Prefecture.

The "Kibiso Mont Blanc" is made with two kinds of waguri (Japanese chestnuts), and the Mont Blanc cream is piped out in strands just 1 mm thick. It is said to melt smoothly in the mouth, with a rich flavor and sweetness that is not too strong.

The “Tabe-kurabe Mont Blanc Set - Kiito / Rihei -” is another sweet treat you will definitely want to try.

Along with comparing chestnuts from Kamimashiki, Kumamoto Prefecture, and Rihei-guri (Rihei chestnuts), you can also enjoy the difference in texture between the string-like and ribbon-like styles.

The sweetness was not too heavy, and I could fully enjoy the quality of waguri (Japanese chestnut). It was the best Mont Blanc I have ever had. The atmosphere of the shop was also nice, and it was great that they also paired it with alcohol.

I had the set that lets you compare it with Rihei. Rihei has a strong chestnut flavor and a rich taste, and it surprised me because it felt different from any Mont Blanc I had eaten before! Both were very delicious, and the atmosphere inside the shop is also very nice♪If you have the time, please enjoy them slowly in the shop!

Maison de Parfait Juzen Jubi

Maison de Parfait Juzen Jubi, about a 2-minute walk from Atami Station, is Atami’s first luxury parfait specialty cafe, created by the historic Furuya Ryokan.

The interior has a chic and calm feel, and if you sit at the counter, you can enjoy an elegant moment while watching the parfaits being made.

The "Parfait Signature Juzen Jubi Parfait" is a signature parfait made with seasonal fruit and ingredients from Shizuoka Prefecture.

This is a luxurious version layered with the aroma of roses and thyme over strawberries from Shizuoka Prefecture. The pistachio florentine and pie add a nice textural accent.

There is a drink menu to enjoy with the parfaits. It offers a wide variety, including cocktails and mocktails unique to Shizuoka and Atami.

The photo shows “hojicha (roasted green tea) and ume (Japanese plum)” from the pairing drink menu. The separately served whisky-based alcohol can be added to taste.

たべびより

I ordered the Mont Blanc parfait, and they finished it by piping the Mont Blanc right in front of me, which made for a fun little performance. It tasted great, and best of all, I really liked being able to enjoy it with alcohol. It turned into a pleasant moment during my trip. If I have the chance, I would love to visit again.

てぃなもぐ

I ordered the seasonal La France pear parfait and the standard waguri (Japanese chestnut) Mont Blanc parfait. It was a lovely parfait with delicate craftsmanship, and one of the best parts was enjoying the changes in flavor from front to back that only a parfait can offer! At the counter seats, they prepared the Mont Blanc right in front of me!

88tees CAFE

88tees CAFE is a cafe where you can enjoy Hawaiian food and pancakes.

The interior has a woody design and is full of resort vibes. They say you can take in the view of Atami Sun Beach from the large windows.

The popular menu item, the pancakes, are said to have a light texture like a fluffy soufflé.

They are well known for being so good that the sweet and salty balance of butter and maple syrup becomes addictive. There are also reviews saying they are filling yet airy, and feel like you could keep eating them forever.

The menu also features Hawaii classics like loco moco and acai bowl.

The popular Butter Garlic Shrimp is said to be tasty with a strong garlic flavor. It is also recommended to squeeze the lemon served on the side and add soy sauce for a different taste.

I ordered the loco moco Rice bowl. On top of the soft rice were juicy Hamburger Steak, a runny soft cooked fried egg, and colorful vegetables, and it looked so good that it instantly lifted my mood✨ With every bite, the Hamburger Steak released more savory flavor, and the gravy sauce tied the whole dish together.

We ordered Omurice, Spam cheese fries, garlic shrimp, and pancakes to share. Everything was delicious. I especially liked the garlic shrimp and the pancakes. The pancakes were light and airy from the meringue. We added whipped cream as a topping. My companion said the Spam cheese fries were the best.

The interior, based on white and natural wood tones, has a bright and calm feel. In addition to indoor seating, there is also open terrace seating, making it a perfect place to take a relaxing break.

The popular menu item, the Special single-origin draft tea, is a cold-brewed sencha (green tea) topped with creamy foam poured from a beer server for a whole new kind of experience.

The tea with its soft foam is highly aromatic and is said to taste almost like a craft beer.

The Nihoncha Whoopie Pie is an original whoopie pie that gives the classic American dessert a complete Japanese tea twist.

It comes in two flavors, matcha and hojicha (roasted green tea). Each one uses dough kneaded with plenty of powdered tea leaves and is sandwiched with a cream cheese filling.

The draft tea was really delicious. The staff's explanation was also very polite and easy to understand. I was able to pour the draft tea myself, which made it fun too! I’d like to go again.

Inside, the stylish space is inspired by the sea. At the counter seats by the window, you can relax and enjoy the ocean view.

They also offer dishes made with ingredients from Shizuoka Prefecture, so you can enjoy local flavors unique to the area.

The pizza in the photo, "shirasu (whitebait) and green onion," is one of them. It gets good reviews for how the moderate saltiness and the flavors of nori (seaweed) and green onion go well with the chewy crust.

The "komeko churosu (rice flour churros)," made with carefully selected rice flour, are popular for their moist yet crisp texture.

Each order is made after you place it, so you can always enjoy them freshly made. They also offer plenty of variety, including "dippu churosu (dip churros)" and "churosu sundae (churro sundae)."

The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, and I was happy that the floor staff were so kind. The carbonara pasta with house made bacon had a nice chewy texture, the freshly grated lemonade came with slices of frozen lemon and tasted refreshing, and I finished even the dessert soft serve in no time〜

No matter which menu item you choose, it is delicious, but once you know the taste of the white curry...it is so good that I feel like I might keep coming back for it over and over;;

The porchetta panino looks incredibly hearty, but because the bread is light, it is not as heavy as it looks. It also contains mozzarella, and its gentle flavor leaves you pleasantly satisfied without feeling too full.

The "Hashi 34 Blend," which can be ordered as a set with cake, is said to have good body and a rich aroma.

なぞの転校生

I stopped by to try the roast beef Rice bowl I couldn't eat the other day. The mix of the soft-boiled egg, roast beef, and rice was just right and tasted great. The coffee after the meal is also good, but since it is about two cups worth, it seems like adding cake next time would be a good idea.

While strolling down the arcade-covered shopping street, I stopped by this cafe near the end because the sound of the piano caught my attention. The master told me that this used to be the main shopping street, and that not many tourists make it this far. It was a relaxing moment, soothed by local stories, red wine, lunch, and dessert. I came as a tourist, but it felt like I got a little extra out of the trip.
