Enjoy Amazing Yakiniku in Nara Prefecture! 20 Recommended Spots by Area

Nara Prefecture was once home to Japan's oldest capital and is packed with historical treasures such as World Heritage sites and National Treasures. It borders Osaka, where casual Yakiniku culture runs deep, and is also known for Yamato Beef, a branded beef produced in Nara Prefecture. This time, we focus on recommended Yakiniku restaurants in Nara Prefecture. We have organized them by area, mainly around Nara City.

Nara Prefecture [Nara City] Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy Yakiniku

Kitashinchi Harami Shin-Omiya Ten

Kitashinchi Harami Shingu Ten is about a 4-minute walk along the train tracks from the south exit of Shin-Omiya Station. This is a Yakiniku restaurant that specializes in harami, the diaphragm meat of beef and pork.

The entrance features a wooden door made to beautifully showcase the rings of a large tree stump. The interior also has a calm and upscale feel.

Outside skirt is a rare cut, with only about 2 to 3kg available from a single cow. You can also enjoy limited quantities of jidori (local chicken), Iberico pork, and Special horse outside skirt.

The signature dish is the "Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black Wagyu) Maboroshi no Harami Steak." Another highlight is the performance of grilling and flambéing a thick block of outside skirt right in front of you.

At lunchtime, they serve set meals such as sukiyaki made with Domestic beef and a Hamburger Steak made with Beef Tongue.

The “Special Outside skirt Ju” comes with several slices of grilled thin cut Outside skirt laid over rice, and it is filling and lets you fully enjoy the rich flavor of the Outside skirt.

We started by ordering the specialty right away, the Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black Wagyu) "phantom" skirt steak! I was amazed that skirt steak could taste this good! The other meats were great too, but to finish, we had my senior colleague's recommendation, the "truffle tamago kake gohan (egg over rice)" and it was the best finishing rice dish I’ve ever had!

・Special Outside skirt Jubako Box
The entire jubako (tiered box) is packed edge to edge with a rare looking gradient of meat color. A bright yellow egg yolk sits in the center. It is classified as Horumon, but Outside skirt is excellent even if you think of it as red meat. The meat flavor really comes through. As mentioned later, it is so full with no gaps that you wonder how much more you would get if you ordered extra meat.

(Oroshi) Seinikuten Chokuso Tare Yakiniku to Kome Yamato-Saidaiji Ten

"(Oroshi) Seinikuten Chokusou Tare Yakiniku to Kome Yamato-Saidaiji Ten" is a restaurant where you can enjoy Yamato Beef, raised in the rich natural surroundings of Nara Prefecture. It is located in the basement of a building near the north exit of Yamato-Saidaiji, close to Heijo Palace Site Historical Park.

The space is casual with a modern Japanese feel. It has smokeless roasters that draw in the smoke, so you can enjoy your meal without worrying about smoke or lingering odors.

"Yamato Beef" is Wagyu known for its tender springy texture and beautiful marbling. They say that when you enjoy it as Yakiniku, it melts in your mouth.

You can also try rare cuts of Yamato Beef. The "Negi Shio Tawara Tan," made with thinly sliced green onions wrapped in tongue, is a great choice for green onion lovers.

The Yakiniku menu can be ordered either à la carte or as a course. Some courses also let you choose a rice dish to finish the meal.

The shining white rice called "ginshari (glossy white rice)," made with high quality Domestic rice cooked in a Clay Pot, is also popular for being very good. You can enjoy it topped with Yakiniku, or mixed with sauce and a raw egg.

hibari908

The gyutan (beef tongue) was large and satisfying to eat, and the oban rosu (large slice of loin) was served sukiyaki style, which went really well with rice. Freshly cooked ginshari (glossy white rice) and yakiniku (Japanese grilled meat) are the best.

みぞん【関西グルメ】

The green onion salt tawara-style Outside skirt was especially interesting, a new kind of grown-up Yakiniku where you can stuff your mouth full of meat while enjoying the sharpness and texture of the green onions❗It is so big that it might be too much for people with small mouths, and it feels like you could keep chewing and enjoying it forever, so if you love green onions, definitely give it a try❗

Ima Yakiniku Hyakurann

Ima Yakiniku Hyakuran is a restaurant in a residential area of Nara City. It has parking and is a large restaurant with more than 100 seats.

The interior has a Japanese modern design, and every area is set up as a Private room. They also have Private rooms with a kids' play area. Even if you're dining with children, you can still take your time and enjoy Yakiniku.

They source whole female Yamato Beef cattle. You can enjoy high quality, flavorful cuts, including rare parts.

You can also compare the flavors of different cuts, such as the light and lean “Uruwashi no Akami,” and the richly marbled “Torokeru Haneshita (chuck flap).”

Popular for both lunch and dinner, the set menus make it easy to enjoy the great taste of Wagyu. The set includes about four kinds of meat such as tongue, loin, and short rib, along with kimchi and salad.

For course orders, you can add All you can drink soft drinks or alcohol for an extra charge.

maaahi12

At this price for this kind of meal...I honestly felt it was amazingly good value. Each slice of meat was carefully cut, stayed tender when grilled, and the flavor of the fat spread across the palate in a refined way. I could really enjoy the differences in texture and flavor from one cut to another, and I enjoyed the meal all the way to the end without getting bored. The side dishes like namul (seasoned vegetable side dish) and the soup were just as well done, making the whole meal feel very well put together.

Source:maaahi12's review

When you have small children, it can be hard to enjoy Yakiniku in peace, but this place has fully private rooms, a kids' play area, and a nursing room (where you can also change diapers), so I thought it was a really good restaurant that truly caters to families with children. The meat in the lunch course was also very good, and I liked the small touches in the cooking, like how they changed the sauce depending on the type of meat.

The interior has a casual feel. There are counter seats that are easy to use even when dining alone, as well as table seating for groups and families.

Another nice point is that they change the sauce to match each cut, with sweet and spicy options, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors.

Some reviews also say that the side dishes besides the meat, such as kimchi, namul, and chijimi (Korean pancake), are also tasty.

They also provide extras like "shio-negi (salted green onions)," "garlic soy sauce," and "wasabi" as a service to season the meat after grilling, so you can enjoy it with your preferred flavors.

The recommended value assortment comes with nice-looking meat, with a good amount of marbling, and it is tasty without being too rich. The salted tongue is sliced thin, but it still has a solid bite. The jōmino (premium Mountain chain tripe) is also crunchy and delicious. The free salted green onions seem to go well with everything, so they are a must.

It was so good it made me laugh! The salted tongue and Outside skirt were the best! I kept laughing and eating with my friend the whole time. More than anything, the staff's perfectly timed service made the sense of satisfaction unreal. This is not just a Yakiniku place you can visit with family, but one where you can enjoy warm service and an atmosphere that feels like family. Here, you can totally enjoy Yakiniku alone without feeling awkward at all!

Each table has a faucet where you can pour your own lemon sour, and with the All you can drink plan, you can drink as much as you like.

mon_foodie

This time, we ordered Yakiniku centered on Wagyu Horumon. The Horumon assortment was a classic Combo of akasen (fourth stomach), Omasum, Mountain chain tripe, toro-tetchan (fatty beef intestine), and liver! Since it was Wagyu Horumon, it was easy to eat and very tasty! We especially added more toro-tetchan and Mountain chain tripe because the prices were low. The thick cut tongue was so good you would never guess it was JPY1000!

A Yakiniku restaurant we stopped by during our trip to Nara. First, the lemon sour was a Surprising All you can drink deal at JPY329 for 30 minutes from a faucet installed at each table‼️Be careful ⚠️ because you might end up drinking too much. The meat assortment, kimchi, tongue, Horumon, and everything else were all delicious. We ended up ordering 3 plates of Horumon.

Shokudoen Nara Gakuenmae Ten

Shokudoen Nara Gakuenmae Ten is part of a group with multiple restaurants in Osaka and Nara, and this one is located near the Gakuen-Yamatocho Minami bus stop.

This large standalone suburban restaurant features a Japanese style interior, with tables spaced comfortably apart so you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed setting.

After an order comes in, they season each cut with a house-made sauce matched to the part before serving it.

The "Hanami Karupi" is known for the lattice-like cuts made along the bone, and as it grills, just the right amount of fat drips out from those cuts, making the flavor taste even richer.

They also offer a luxurious course where you can enjoy brand-name Wagyu Chateaubriand and tongue.

めがねーまん

At my family’s request, I’m having Yakiniku for the first time in a while! The Gakuenmae Ten is clean, the seating is spacious, and you can relax and enjoy Yakiniku here ^ ^ Today is all about treating the family, so I even forgot to take photos, and this dad just kept grilling the whole time!! Wow〜 everyone was eating away with such gusto! When they keep saying how tasty and good it is, that alone makes the drinks go down easy!!

なみちゃんねる

A restaurant where you can feel at ease with both the food and the service. It is a good choice for bringing older family members, as the meat is tender and tastes great. The restaurant also has Private room seating and many booth seats, so it works well for family gatherings too. The interior is clean, and the ventilation is good, so it does not get filled with smoke.

イノウィン

Every year on this day, we always go to Futago! This day too, after a tough day at work, I came here to eat with my junior colleagues. We were starving, so we ended up eating a lot as always. This time, the Futago soup was so good that I got another serving. At Futago, the energetic staff grill the meat for us every time, so it’s nice that all we have to do is eat.

モモキ

Some menu items are grilled right in front of you by the staff, and they were delicious with the perfect level of doneness. The service is also very polite. For example, they bring you a hand towel after you use the restroom. The yogurt after the meal is also very good!

Yakiniku Dining Hakoniwa

Yakiniku Dining Hakoniwa is about a 7-minute walk from the west exit of Nara Station, tucked away on a narrow lane in a residential area, and specializes in Yakiniku and Japanese wine.

The space is bright and natural, with a cafe-like feel. The tables are set with plenty of room between them, creating a stylish atmosphere.

In addition to a wide variety of menu items such as karubi (short rib) and loin from A4 to A5 rank Wagyu, they also offer pork Horumon and chicken.

They also serve Yakiniku seasoned with basil to pair well with wine, as well as duck. There is also a meat ajillo, and you can enjoy items such as tongue simmered in oil while heating it on the grill.

They offer a wide range of Japanese wines, including red, white, sparkling, and fresh nama-wine (unpasteurized wine).

It seems some people come not just for the Yakiniku, but also for the wine, so this is a recommended restaurant for anyone who wants to enjoy Japanese wine too.

奈良のおっちゃん

I was lucky enough to have the "limited to 5 servings" steak set meal. The meat was outstanding! It was tender, elegant, and a refined dish. The side dishes, salad and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), were both very tasty. What impressed me even more was the miso soup. It was simply made with fried tofu and green onions, but the dashi was so deep and rich that it really surprised me!

やまもとごんのひょうゑ

We ordered Hakoniwa’s by-the-glass wine of the day. On this day, they had options from Yamagata and Nagano. The red from Nagano had bright acidity and a fresh aroma. We had planned to eat only the salt-grilled Beef Tongue, but we kept going and also ordered the Special Wagyu (Miyazaki-gyu (Miyazaki beef) A5 on this day) Premium Loin. The crisp outside and melt-in-your-mouth texture were irresistible.

Richoen Kintetsu Nara Ekimae Ten

Richoen Kintetsu Nara Ekimae Ten is a Yakiniku restaurant run by a group that operates Korean restaurants mainly in Osaka, and it is located on the second floor of a building near the west exit of Nara Station.

It has a bright, casual atmosphere. It seems to offer counter seats that are easy to use even when dining alone, as well as zashiki (tatami seating) that works well for families with children and larger groups.

One of the signature menu items is the "shio-koji (salted rice malt) Thick Cut Samgyeopsal Set." You grill the thick, large slices of pork and wrap them in vegetables with spicy yakumi (condiments).

The "Richoen assortment" and other value menus with recommended meat assortments for 2 to 3 people are also a great deal, and they are all said to be delicious.

They also offer All you can eat Yakiniku courses. Some include all you can eat side dishes as well, and they also have all you can eat options focused on Yakiniku such as samgyeopsal.

The house made "hakusai kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi)" included in the All you can eat service is also popular. They are particular about the chili peppers and prepare it by hand.

メックリンガー

This time, we had the “Kogane (Gold) Course” for JPY6,000 with All you can drink, and I was amazed by how much food there was! There were so many dishes I could barely finish them all, and it offered more than enough value for the price. I especially liked the yaki-shabu (lightly grilled thin sliced meat) and the Outside skirt, which were tender and full of flavor. They also offer plans like All you can eat, making this a convenient place for Banquets with large groups.

食べログログ太郎

What stands out most is the side lineup, like Korean Perilla Leaves, namul (seasoned vegetable dishes), and kimchi. They are very tasty, and they are at their best when eaten with the meat. It reminded me of the kind of Yakiniku place I went to as a kid, where the meat became delicious not because of the quality itself but because of the technique. I rarely go back to an All you can eat Yakiniku restaurant, but this place became a favorite.

The popular dish here is "Negi Shio Tan," made with thinly sliced tongue laid out on a plate and topped with a pile of finely chopped green onions large enough to cover it completely. It tastes great when you grill one side with the green onions still on top, then eat it rolled around the green onions.

The side menu is also extensive, with options like meat sushi and cold noodles.

グルメ王yuta

I was really impressed by how much the owner, Nakamura-san, has studied and learned. The quality of the meat is great, the sauce is delicious, the tableware is lovely, the presentation is excellent, and the value for money is unbeatable! It feels like there is no way this Yakiniku place would not be popular! If it were closer to my home, I honestly think I would go once every two weeks! It is that kind of wonderful Yakiniku restaurant.

きなこもちか

It really felt loved by the locals, and people who looked like regulars kept coming in! They have many kinds of Horumon, and this time I tried mame (kidney), which you do not often see elsewhere. It is kidney, but it had no off notes and was very tasty! The tongue was also cut to just the right thickness, so it had a satisfying bite and tasted great!

This is the kind of Yakiniku place I’d probably visit at least once a month. The Yakiniku here is especially incredibly good. They serve Yamato Beef. Is this the place people mean when they say the sauce and white rice alone are enough for a whole meal? It’s that good ^ ^

This standalone restaurant is marked by its black exterior walls. The first floor has table seating, while the second floor offers spacious Sunken kotatsu seating in tatami rooms as well as terrace seating.

They buy whole A5-grade Wagyu cattle, so you can enjoy high-quality, very fresh beef. They also offer rare cuts, and the Horumon menu with organ meats is extensive.

Skilled chefs carefully cut the meat while checking the balance of marbling, which seems to be one reason it tastes so good.

The "Tsubo Karubi" marinated in the restaurant’s original sauce is an impressive item, so big that it surprises you when they pull it out of the jar.

The sauce tastes great, and the tongue coated in sauce is popular too. They also offer courses with All you can drink.

Pino...

First, the premium salted tongue. It was surprisingly tender, and the more I chewed, the more the rich flavor and perfect seasoning spread across my palate. Next was the Outside skirt. It had the bold taste you expect from lean meat with an excellent balance of fat, and I could really tell the quality of the meat. The tsubo-karubi (marinated short ribs in a jar) made a big impression from the moment it arrived. The secret sauce had soaked in well, making it a great match with both rice and drinks!

Above all, the smiles of all the young staff left the biggest impression. It became a place I want to visit again.

Just like the reviews said, every staff member was wonderful!! Their service and friendliness were perfect. On top of that, the meat was delicious, and the side menu was extensive, so having something between bites of meat made it easy to enjoy even more meat. Koshitsu Yakiniku Kofujin Kashiba Goido Ten is a Yakiniku restaurant located in Kawaraguchi, Kashiba City, about a 2-minute walk from the north exit of Goido Station, where you can also enjoy Yamato Beef, a Wagyu from Nara Prefecture.

It is popular because even small groups can relax and enjoy their meal in Japanese modern Private rooms. There is a room charge, but they also have a Private room with a kids' play space.

"Yamato Beef" is raised only by a limited number of producers in Nara. Skilled chefs carefully cut it to bring out the best of the ingredient.

Yakiniku Horumon Macchan

Located near the east exit of Kashiharajingu-mae Station, Yakiniku Horumon Macchan is easy to spot thanks to the pure white cow monument placed in front of the shop.

With its exposed concrete interior and large wooden tables, the dining space has a casual feel that is perfect when you want to enjoy Yakiniku without fuss.

They serve Yamato Beef from Nara Prefecture, cutting it only after an order comes in so the umami does not escape.

The tongue is especially popular, and among the options, the "Cho Atsugiri Shio Tan" is said to be a standout, with its thick cut tongue offering a special taste. It also has cuts in it so it cooks through easily, and you can enjoy its springy texture as well.

The popular Meibutsu Gocha-yaki (house mixed grill) combines assorted leftover cuts of meat from various parts. It is coated in sauce and goes well with rice.

Some of the staff work out, and the restaurant also seems to offer a few unique services, such as a performance where they crush a lemon by hand with impressive strength.

みんしぇん

Drawn in by the white cow, I visited Yakiniku Horumon Macchan. Their specialty, "gocha-yaki (mixed grilled offcuts)," is amazing with white rice. Yakiniku Yamato

Yakiniku Yamato is a Yakiniku restaurant located near Yamato-Yagi Station, just past the underpass at the Eki Kita Hiroba intersection. You can enjoy A5 rank Wagyu here, mainly Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black beef) from Kyushu.

The space has a warm feel, with dark brown tones and plenty of wood throughout. It also has a stylish atmosphere, and there is terrace seating as well.

They serve female beef, known for its good balance of lean meat and fat and for being less likely to feel heavy after eating. They offer everything from loin and kalbi (Korean style short ribs) to rare cuts.

They also cut the meat only after an order comes in, so the flavor stays locked in.

If you make a reservation, you can also enjoy a set that includes a “niku cake (meat cake),” a thick cut of steak stamped with the kanji “celebration,” along with short ribs arranged like a flower.

They also offer a sparkler presentation for celebration dinners and surprises, making it a memorable Yakiniku experience.

Of all the Yakiniku I’ve had so far, this was the highest quality and I was very Manzoku, and the meat cake was very Instagram-worthy, looked great, and tasted great too. It made for a wonderful one-year celebration. I felt this restaurant was a perfect fit for special occasions and celebrations.

I was happy with the wide variety of meat and side dishes! The shio negi tan (salted beef tongue with green onions), Outside skirt, and sudachi (Japanese citrus) cold noodles were all very delicious. I also liked the restaurant’s clean and calm atmosphere. I’d like to visit again the next time I’m at Yamato-Yagi Station.

Yakiniku Kamishiro

Yakiniku Kamishiro is a group restaurant of a Yakiniku chain founded in Tsuruhashi, Osaka. Located in Koryocho, Nara Prefecture, it is a large standalone suburban Yakiniku restaurant.

The clean interior, based on white tones, offers a variety of seating options, including table seats where ordered items arrive by lane and elegant Private rooms.

This restaurant is known for buying whole Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black Wagyu) season by season from around Japan, so diners can enjoy many different cuts, from standard favorites to rare parts.

They can also accommodate requests for how the meat is cut. They will cut it to suit each part as well, such as thick slices or dice-like steak cuts.

The house-made “shio-dare (salt-based sauce)” is also popular for bringing out the meat’s flavor and staying light even if you eat a lot. They also offer a course made up entirely of meats seasoned with shio-dare.

The lunch menu is also extensive. It’s also a good idea to add A la carte Yakiniku to one of the value lunch sets.

I think these prices are possible because they buy whole Wagyu cattle. The meat is very tender, has a nice sweetness, and tastes great. It goes perfectly with rice, and since rice refills are free, you can eat without worrying. There is just one thing to watch out for! It is such a great value and so tasty that you may end up eating too much before you know it.

I stopped in by chance, and maybe because it had only just opened, the interior was very spacious, clean, and refined. The meat was delicious, and the cold noodles were excellent too. I do not know other Yakiniku places in Nara, but I was very Manzoku. I visited after 15:00, and it came to about JPY8000 for two people.

I had solo Yakiniku. The amount of meat and the flavor of the sauce were the best in every way! Everything was very delicious. The service was also top notch, and when I left, they came outside to see me off in the cold. Even if that is part of the manual for a chain restaurant, the young staff member's kind personality really showed through, and both the food and service were wonderful.

The food came out smoothly too, so it seems like a great pick for families! The homemade kimchi? menu item was incredibly good! We went with 4.5 people, and I think each person ate about one plate lol

Nara Prefecture: Restaurants in Tenri, Uda, and Yamanobe Where You Can Enjoy Yakiniku

Nikushou Geihinkan Tawaramoto Ten

Nikushou Geihinkan Tawaramoto Ten is a Yakiniku restaurant with multiple restaurants in Nara Prefecture. This is the Honten in Tawaramoto Town, between Tenri City and Kashihara City.

The restaurant has a modern Japanese interior, with many table seats separated by partitions that feel like Semi-private rooms, making it suitable for anything from solo dining to larger groups.

What sets this place apart is that it has its own ranch and buys in whole cattle, with careful attention paid from the raising stage. They serve high quality meat, including rare cuts.

Once an order comes in, skilled staff cut the meat by hand, changing the thickness and the way each cut is sliced depending on the part.

The course brings together nothing but rare cuts like the finest Top blade and the finest Flap meat, and the reservation-only "meat cake" can be prepared with your favorite cuts.

Another plus is the three kinds of sauce that bring out the meat's flavor: spicy, sweet, and light. You can also enjoy it in a refreshing way with lemon or wasabi.

りんごパイログ

They use Yamato Beef. I’ve been coming to this restaurant for decades, and bara (short plate) and tetchan (large intestine) have always been my favorites. The bara is good quality even without ordering the premium cut, and the regular one is more than enough. There are several places in the prefecture where you can eat Yamato Beef, but the rich flavor of the fat here is on a different level. The tetchan is also soft and excellent. The interior has been renovated, and now all seating is in Private rooms.

The Hanging tender and Outside skirt are great because they are easy to eat and not too fatty. Especially the Outside skirt! I found that out recently. The combination of yakumi (condiments) and wasabi gelee is so good that, since I love wasabi, even richer cuts taste great and never feel heavy. Also, the daikon radish salad is excellent. Of course the meat is good, but the careful service is also so nice that it makes you want to come back.
