[Sapporo Chuo Ward (Around Odori Park)] Stylish Cafes
Wa-yo Secchu Kissa Nagayama Rest is a cafe located inside Nagayama Memorial Park in Sapporo.
It makes use of a Japanese-Western eclectic residence built in the Meiji era that is designated as a Hokkaido Tangible Cultural Property, and you can spend time in its retro space while looking out at the greenery of the park.

This cafe is well known as a place where you can enjoy cafe time in a calm atmosphere. It is quite popular, and lines are not unusual on some days.
The menu also centers on items with a retro feel that matches the space. Classic yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) dishes and cute drinks are especially popular.
Photograph:mayumon☆
Their seasonal afternoon tea is also one of their specialties. It mixes wagashi (Japanese sweets) and Western sweets, along with savory items like sandwiches and pickles.
They also seem to have many visually appealing menu items, such as well-reviewed parfaits topped with soft serve and cream soda.
はくまい23259
The space had a retro, cute feel and was very comfortable. This time, I had a seasonal limited drink. It was designed to look like cosmos flowers, and the pistachios added a cute accent. The flavor brought out the natural taste of satsumaimo (sweet potato), with just the right sweetness, and it was delicious.

・Seasonal afternoon tea set
The balance of Japanese and Western touches is really nice〜. You do not often find Japanese style afternoon tea, so it got me excited! And I was so happy it came with corn soup, egg sandwiches, and shibazuke (Kyoto pickles)!! I was able to finish it all without the sweetness getting to me by the end! lol. Personally, the egg sandwiches were my favorite.

Creperie Tsuki is a cafe centered on galette (Breton buckwheat crepes), a dish from France, and cider, an alcoholic drink made from apples, and it is located on Nishi 20-chome on the west side of Odori Park.
The cafe is a renovated old standalone house. The space is designed with the image of a country manor or church in France, welcoming guests into a warm setting.
Photograph:ゆみっちょ
Rather than serving high end French cuisine, they center the menu on galette (Breton buckwheat crepe) because they want people to get to know French food culture in a casual way, like the country cooking of Brittany.
The buckwheat flour used for the galettes comes from Hokkaido. The menu items are also named after regions in France.
Photograph:☆ことらちゃん☆
When you want to have something a little sweet, crepes are a great choice. They have simple options like "Sugar Butter" as well as ones topped with chocolate sauce.
This shop gets lots of reviews saying you can relax and spend your time in the warm atmosphere inside.

The salmon galette was Loire style, and at the same time it also felt very much like Hokkaido (northern Japan). It was very fresh and easy to eat. We were shown to seats on the second floor, and the atmosphere was lovely, so we could relax and spend our time feeling just a little elegant. I was also curious about the other classic galettes and the seasonal galettes.

For dessert, I had the "Salted Caramel Crepe." The slightly bitter note of the house-made caramel sauce and the gentle hint of salt brought out the sweetness, making it a grown-up kind of flavor. It went perfectly with the chewy crepe, and I really enjoyed the happy moment. The interior was a calm space with the warmth of wood, and I was able to relax and take my time.

PARK PERK is located on the west side of Odori Koen (Odori Park), near the Nishi 8-chome streetcar stop. It opens from the morning, so it seems easy to stop by for a cafe break while sightseeing.
The spacious interior is a stylish space filled with antique furniture from overseas. Maybe because of the bar counter, it also has an American feel.
Next to the counter, there is a display case lined with cakes and baked sweets, which you can order with a drink during cafe time.
The crisp and filling scones also come in varieties made with seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The hot sandwich is available to order from lunch through cafe time. The surface is nicely toasted, and the cheese inside melts beautifully.
People say it is popular because you can eat it like a hamburger. You can also customize it with options like adding a fried egg or avocado.

This was my first visit. I was curious about the corn chocolate (white chocolate) scone, so I ordered it. I’m not from Hokkaido, but I’ve been surprised by how many tokibi (sweet corn) sweets I’ve seen at cafes since coming to Sapporo. This was my first time trying one, and the gentle sweetness went really well with the scone and tasted great! I also liked the white chocolate on top.

Gin Koohii Ten is a cafe in Miyanomori, next to the zoo and Hokkaido Jingu (Hokkaido Shrine).
The space feels wrapped in the warmth of wood. There are table seats with a mix of different chairs and sofas, so you can spend your time here in whatever style suits you.
Although it is a little way from the station, there is also a parking lot, so you can stop by with peace of mind even during a sightseeing drive.
One feature of the hot coffee is that it is brewed with a French press. The time spent slowly waiting at the table for the sand in the hourglass to run down also seems like a lovely moment.
Photograph:7feb9b
The pancakes, puffed up so high they spill out of the small frying pan, are especially popular. They look filling, but they are so soft and fluffy that people say they go down easily.
The steak, made with beef from Hokkaido, is another specialty. You can choose the size and production region, so it is also a great place for a casual steak centered meal.

I had been curious about this place for a long time and finally got to visit. The French press coffee was also unusual and very good. The pancakes were light and tasty too, so I’d like to go again. It also helps that there is parking available.

The seasonal Catalana and Gin Blend. It arrived after about a 7-minute wait. From there, I waited a little while until the sand in the hourglass ran out. Once all the sand had fallen, I took a sip of the coffee. It had a solid bitterness, just the kind of coffee I like. It was delicious. The seasonal Catalana. This was also delicious.

I visited Cafe Hygge, up in the hills of Miyanomori. There is plenty of parking, so I went by car. Everything I had was delicious! This cafe is located in a residential area, about a 2-minute walk from Maruyama Koen Station. It focuses on nihoncha (Japanese tea) and uses part of a house as the restaurant.
The green tea-colored noren (traditional shop curtain) seems to be the landmark. There are about 12 seats in total, but the cafe space is roomy and easy to relax in.
The menu features only nihoncha (Japanese tea) and wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). You can choose your favorite from about five kinds of tea leaves and blended teas, and enjoy the nihoncha in three separate infusions.
The green tea served in a wine glass lets you fully take in its aroma, and many people are surprised by how the taste and fragrance change in the second and third infusions even with the same tea leaves.
Photograph:P0822
For the set wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), you can choose one from the beautifully arranged selection in the display case. They also seem to have sweets shaped like seasonal flowers and other motifs.
Even if you are new to nihoncha (Japanese tea), the owner, who is a certified Japanese tea instructor, will explain it in an easy-to-understand way, so you can relax and enjoy the tea.

The tea choices were shown in an easy to understand matrix of umami, astringency, bitterness, and sweetness, which made them easy to choose from. The characteristics of each tea were also written out clearly, so it was easy to understand. I chose Higashiyama Yabukita, which was marked as having stronger bitterness. It had a deep flavor, with rich astringency and bitterness that went well with the sweets!

It was perfect for a relaxing moment, enjoying Japanese tea in 3 infusions and tasting how a single tea leaf changes. This hideaway-like shop sits just inside a residential area a short walk from Maruyama Koen Station, and if you like Japanese tea, it is worth visiting at least once.

In addition to parfaits, they also have pudding, coffee jelly, and colorful sodas topped with soft serve.
They also serve alcohol, so many people stop by after drinking in the Susukino area for one more drink or to finish with a parfait.

It somehow feels like a mysterious space. Looking at the photos made me want to eat a parfait, but if I went for one piled high with whipped cream, it would definitely affect my dinner later, maybe because of my age, so I thought I’d just get a drink. Then I found a terrine made with Yoichi whisky. Holding back the urge to have it with alcohol, I ordered an iced coffee.

I was Surprising to see the coffee served in a stylish wine glass! It caught me off guard personally, but I felt like I could really notice the coffee’s aroma and flavor. And the coffee jelly parfait was outstanding✨✨

The soft serve was on the firm side. Or maybe it felt firm because it was so rich? It seemed to be topped with coffee powder, I think. I had it in a cup, and it was quite a generous portion with a rich, high-fat feel, so maybe it was originally made to be eaten in balance with their good coffee.

It is a coconut flavored milk pudding, and pouring red strawberry sauce over it makes it even cuter and tastier. It is said to be firm and not easy to fall apart, with a gentle flavor.

The Hamburger Steak is also popular. It is grilled plump and juicy, and comes with about five kinds of sauce, including tomato sauce and a Japanese style sauce flavored with yama-wasabi (Japanese horseradish).
It seems to get crowded at lunchtime, but if you go a little later, you can spend your time at a more relaxed pace.

For dessert, I shared the bear-shaped pudding with the friend I went with and we ate half each. It had a gently sweet flavor. It was coconut pudding, but the coconut was not too strong, so I found it easy to eat. The look alone was soothing, and the gentle sweetness was comforting too. The staff were also kind, which made me feel at ease coming in.

I chose the tomato curry Hamburger Steak. Last time the demi-glace tasted a bit salty to me, so this time I went with the tomato curry. Rather than being very meaty and firm, it had a soft texture. They said the soft-boiled egg could go with either the salad or the Hamburger Steak, so I added it to the Hamburger Steak. I think that was a good match. It is also nice that rice refills are free.

CAFE PETIT is a cafe located on the 2nd floor of the Kita 24-jo Station bus terminal in Nishi 4-chome, Kita-ku, Sapporo, making it easy to stop by while waiting for a bus or train.
The space feels warm with brick walls and warm-toned lighting. It has counter seats and box seats with sofa seating, giving it an easygoing atmosphere that makes it easy to drop in.
The specialty is "Teppan-yaki Meat," a long-loved dish that carries on the flavor from the cafe run by the owner's family.
They slowly saute the onions to bring out their sweetness, then serve it on a piping hot iron plate. People also praise the rich meat sauce over the pasta, along with the sizzling sound you can enjoy as it arrives.

Since they open from the morning, many people seem to order the Breakfast menu. Their Homemade bread made with wheat flour from Hokkaido is also popular.
The salad dressing is Homemade too, and paired with a good cup of coffee, it seems to make for a happy start to the day.

The Teppan-yaki meat spaghetti was sooo delicious☺️ The salad also came with Homemade dressing, and it had a kind of good flavor you do not find at other places. If I go to Kita 24-jo (Kita 24th Street) again, this is a place I would love to visit again☺️

The house-made bread is so good〜! The bread comes with honey and butter (or maybe margarine), but it is more than tasty enough on its own! The salad is good too! They said the house-made dressing has garlic in it, and I like that flavor♡ The coffee is also just the way I like it......delicious♡(*^^*)

The hotel and cafe are run by a coffee shop with multiple restaurants in Hokkaido. You can enjoy coffee made with house-roasted beans, brewed by skilled baristas.
They offer a range of coffees, including ones with different roast levels and seasonal limited-time coffees.
They also offer a full lineup of food menu items made with ingredients from Hokkaido, along with soft serve made from milk from Hokkaido.
The "Tabi no Hajimari no Coffee Jelly Parfait" is a dessert that pairs rich coffee jelly with espresso ice cream and more. It is a great choice for coffee lovers.

I don’t usually drink hot coffee, but the coffee here is really good. The acidity isn’t too strong, so it’s easy to drink. And here’s the amazing coffee jelly that goes perfectly with it!! The coffee jelly is great, of course, and I’m sure the sweetness of the nuts and cream on top is also balanced to match the coffee.

It seems to be attached to a hotel, and you can enjoy Breakfast here. I ordered the pizza toast and coffee set. The coffee had a clean taste, and the pizza toast was just the right size for the morning. The seating is spacious, and there are lots of books, so it is a great place to relax and take it easy from the start of the day.

Tsukisappu Noen is a shop in Tsukisamu Higashi 3-jo, Toyohira Ward, where you can enjoy sweets made with ingredients from Hokkaido.
The first floor is a bright country-style cafe, and the second floor has an Italian restaurant attached.

The specialty here is the "rich soft serve." It is a very rich soft serve made with a recipe that uses more than three times the usual amount of fresh cream from Hokkaido.
They say it is firm enough that even after it is placed on the cone, it will not fall off when turned upside down. The chocolate coated version is popular too.
Photograph:acheerkk
They offer more than 20 kinds of gelato, all made with fresh fruits and ingredients from Hokkaido.
They also have cakes that can be paired with ice cream or gelato, and the fruit sauces are Homemade as well. Another nice point is that they use no additives, so you can enjoy them with peace of mind.

I went to have soft serve! Chocolate-covered soft serve that does not drip even when turned upside down!! I had a fun time enjoying it. The flavor is on the light side, but the sign explaining that it is made with a richer mix than usual really stood out! They also say it is all natural with no preservatives, so I thought it would be easy to visit with kids.

A shop I had been curious about for a long time! I had often seen it on Instagram and other places too. I went inside and ordered from the ticket machine. I got one single scoop of gelato in a cup, strawberry, and one soft serve chocolate in a cone. It was delicious!

Cafe Yamanote is a cafe located in a residential neighborhood in Nishi Ward, close to nature and with easy access to central Sapporo.
The exterior combines brick and red painted wood, giving it the feel of a log house. Inside, antique style furniture creates a calm space where you can relax and take your time.

The menu has a full lineup of yoshoku (Japanese-style Western dishes), and it seems to draw lots of people at lunchtime. If you order a lunch set, it comes with salad and soup, and that extra service is also popular.
The popular dish is the “torotoro omu-hayashi rice,” with runny egg wrapped around rice and topped with plenty of demi-glace sauce.
Photograph:masami☻
They also offer Homemade desserts such as apple pie and gateau chocolate. The cakes are also available for Takeout.
They also put care into their latte art, and will draw cute illustrations on drinks such as cafe lattes and matcha lattes.
ぐるめしゃちょー
The interior has a retro feel that somehow brings to mind a New York cafe. There are plenty of seats, so I could relax and take my time. The menu had pasta and curry like you would find at an old school kissaten (Japanese coffee shop), and there were also several kinds of parfaits for dessert. I ordered the katsu curry, and the first thing that surprised me was the huge portion!

We had the omuhayashi set and the Naporitan (Japanese-style ketchup pasta) set. The Naporitan tasted amazing. It was really delicious. The omuhayashi came with white rice covered in soft-cooked egg and topped with a hayashi sauce like curry. This was tasty too. Customers kept coming in one after another, so it might be a good idea to reserve a table. Next time, I’d like to come back for dessert.
