Kushiage (deep fried skewers) Tororo Hot Pot Hanakin

Kushiage Tororo Nabe Hanakin is a popular izakaya with many repeat customers, as it has an excellent location with great access from Kawasaki Station yet is hard to find, giving it a nice hidden-away feel.

The kushiage (deep-fried skewers) here are said to use plant-based oil that is gentle on the body and less likely to feel heavy on the stomach. Besides those kushiage, the restaurant also offers many creative dishes, and reviews say that choosing from the menu is part of the fun.

The restaurant’s namesake dish is “tororo-nabe (grated yam Hot Pot).” It is a menu item where you pour grated yam made from yamato-imo (Japanese mountain yam) over a Hot Pot made with bonito and kombu kelp dashi.

As the tororo cooks through, its texture turns pleasantly chewy, and it also pairs perfectly with the udon To finish.

The “kushiage (deep-fried skewers)” here uses carefully selected oil and Homemade batter. There is a wide variety, from classics to unique items, and they all get great reviews, so it is a good idea to order an “assortment” and try a bit of everything.

The “ikura salmon” is said to be especially great.

The freshly fried kushiage (deep-fried skewers) had a light, crisp coating, and each bite spread the flavor of the ingredients, making for a very Manzoku feeling. The tororo Hot Pot had a mild and gentle taste but still plenty of richness, with a comforting flavor that really sank in. Paired with the calm atmosphere inside, this was a lovely place where you can relax and enjoy a good meal at an easy pace.

The aburi shime saba (seared cured mackerel) was especially delicious✨The creative skewers were great too! The staff were very attentive, and I had a really pleasant time drinking! It’s the kind of izakaya (Japanese pub) that makes you want to come back if you get the chance. Maybe because the concept is a hideaway izakaya, the entrance is pretty hard to find. But in a way, that’s part of what makes it nice.

It really felt like they had nothing but yamaimo (Japanese mountain yam) on the menu. I was Surprising to see so many dishes made with yamaimo. Everything was delicious, the dashi (Japanese soup stock) flavor came through well, and nothing missed the mark. It was moving, because it is hard to find a place this good.

AKIRA Y.

A bit of a walk from Kawasaki, and with no sign out front, this place really feels like a hidden gem. Once you step inside, it is dimly lit and truly has the feel of a hideaway. It is a very casual restaurant, but the cost performance is excellent. The food that comes out is really delicious. The conversation flowed and we ended up staying a long time. I will find a chance to go again.

Yakitori Zuicho is a popular izakaya where you can enjoy pairings of yakitori and shochu (Japanese distilled spirit).

The interior, which was all done DIY, has a stylish bistro-like feel. From the counter seats, you can also watch the lively cooking up close, making for a memorable time.

The "Zuicho Course" is a very popular course where you can enjoy 7 kinds of yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) along with a variety of other dishes.

The photo shows the "sasami (chicken tenderloin)," which is served as the first skewer. The combination of the plump, perfectly grilled sasami and the fragrant shiso leaf is said to be irresistible.

As an unusual final dish in the course, the "keema curry" is also very popular.

The curry has a rich taste packed with the flavors of the ingredients and spices, and the minced meat is said to give a solid savory meat flavor.

You can enjoy a high-end feel even though the prices are easy on the wallet. Not just the skewers, but every a la carte dish is also delicious, and you can feel the care that goes into them. If you ask, they will also choose drinks as pairings for you, which makes it fun. They also have a wide selection of shochu (Japanese distilled spirit), which is great ✨

Course yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) can sound a bit intimidating, but the atmosphere here is casual. In other words, you can enjoy high level yakitori with ease. This is a place I can really recommend!

They have a wide selection of Japanese sake, including hard to find bottles, so it is especially recommended for Japanese sake lovers.

With the wide variety of Japanese sake, you can either check the Japanese sake chart and choose for yourself or order the staff’s recommendation. It’s nice that they make it easy for even people who are not familiar with it to choose and enjoy.

The photo shows Hidakami, a local sake from Miyagi Prefecture. It is dry and easy to pair with food.

Many reviews gave high praise to the "Pari Pari Chicken Steak with Nanbei Pakuchi Sauce (South American cilantro sauce)," calling it "really delicious."

The crispy skinned, juicy chicken pairs irresistibly with a spicy sauce that lets you taste the flavor of pakuchi (cilantro).

It felt like a bar focused on Japanese sake, and it was an interesting place where you could enjoy Japanese sake with dishes you would not usually pair with it. The portions are on the smaller side, so even solo diners can enjoy trying a variety of dishes. If you like Japanese sake, this is a place you should definitely visit.

Well browned chicken breast! The skin has a crisp bite, while the meat is tender and moist! The chimichurri sauce with the aroma of pakuchi (cilantro) goes perfectly with the chicken steak! This sauce makes me want to enjoy it with a beer!

The table seats by the window have a great view of Kawasaki! The zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken) and the famous ramen salad were delicious while looking out over the city as evening fell.
