ESPRIT Nagoya Ten

"ESPRIT Nagoya Ten" is a cafe directly run by Komugiya, a popular bakery in Gifu Prefecture, and offers a lineup of sweets that make the most of its bread.

One of its main draws is its location overlooking the park in front of Hisaya-odori Station, and the bright space filled with natural light creates a fresh feel. On sunny days, the terrace seats are especially recommended.

The seasonal French toast, which changes throughout the year, is especially popular. It uses brioche bread with a standout wheat aroma, and it is said to be so soft and rich that it almost melts in your mouth.

The photo shows a plate from peach season. It comes with house made peaches compote, and it is said to go perfectly with the vanilla ice cream.

They also have an alcohol menu, so it’s perfect for quickly enjoying a drink during cafe time.

The curry inside is slightly sweet with a gentle flavor. They also had a very wide selection of drinks, from standard menu items to rare espresso-based drinks and even alcohol.

I visited this place as a night cafe. You can get refills on the coffee, so it goes well with sweet bread and cake. It is quiet at night, and it is a lovely cafe where you can relax, chat, and look out at the view outside. It is also recommended for taking bread to go.

Charley's

About a 3-minute walk from Nagoya Station, Charlie's in the B1 floor of Daimyo Nagoya Building is a cafe where you can enjoy coffee from Maruyama Coffee, a well-known shop in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, along with stylish desserts.

It also has an attached grocery shop lined with sweets and sundries, so you can pick up a small souvenir on your way home after tea.

The menu centers on coffee carefully brewed with Special beans, along with desserts and light meals.

The popular “custard pudding” has the firm texture long loved at Japanese kissaten (traditional coffee shops). It is said to have a rich finish, with a full eggy taste and slightly bitter caramel sauce.

The "Macadamia Nuts Pancake" comes generously covered in a pure white sauce, giving it a striking look.

The thick, fluffy pancakes go very well with the rich nutty sauce. It is said to have a light, refreshing finish.

・Dutch Baby Trifle
A “Dutch baby” is a German-style pancake baked slowly in the oven. Crispy on the outside and soft and chewy like a crepe on the inside ♡ On top of this batter are 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream! As it melts to a creamy half-melted texture, you can take a bite together with strawberries, banana, and other fruit ♡ So good ❣️ I can’t resist it anymore ❣️ Pure happiness~ ̖́-

I ordered the cake set❤︎From the wide selection, I chose the cakes called Gourmand and Yuu. They had an almost artistic shape❣️The glossy, shiny surface was reflective enough to mirror even me❤️The chocolate inside was layered many times over, rich and delicious. The tea and cake set made for a luxurious time with no complaints (*´꒳`*)

A cafe tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood. You can enjoy cake and bread in the shop. Of course, Takeout is also available. The small shortcake has a nice balance of cream and sponge. The gateau chocolat is rich, while still letting the quality of the ingredients come through. Including the atmosphere, it was a cafe I’d like to visit again.

Nagono Sabo Hanasenka

Nagono Sabo Hanasenka is a Japanese-style cafe where you can enjoy carefully brewed nihoncha (Japanese tea) and seasonal wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). It is located in the Nagono area, where historic streetscapes still remain, about a 5-minute walk from Kokusai Center Station.

The interior is a Japanese-modern space renovated from a kominka (traditional old house) that is more than 150 years old, and the counter seats are popular because you can watch the tea being brewed up close.

Japanese tea made with premium tea leaves from Higashishirakawa-mura (Higashishirakawa Village), Gifu Prefecture. They offer a variety of types, including kabusecha (shade-grown tea) with little bitterness and well-balanced sencha (green tea).

The traditional way to drink it is to brew it in several rounds. The first and second infusions are said to have completely different flavor profiles.

The "Hanachika to Fukyuen no Monaka," created in collaboration with a famous wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) shop, is said to be perfect with tea. It is a Japanese sweet made with fragrant crisp wafers filled with anko (sweet red bean paste).

It is meant to be enjoyed with Cognac brandy poured over it. You can choose between smooth koshian (smooth red bean paste) and flavorful tsubuan (chunky red bean paste).

Lady hana

Warabi-mochi (bracken starch dumpling) made with genuine warabi starch from Kagoshima Prefecture. The syrup comes on the side. They prepare it fresh for each order, and it has a melt-in-your-mouth softness. Smooth and chewy, with a light sweetness even without the syrup, and the roasted aroma of the kinako (roasted soybean flour) is just right. I enjoyed three infusions of tea. Having it together with the sweets made the beauty of the tea stand out even more.

はるはるだっし

The tea was served in three rounds, and each one had a completely different aroma and taste, which made it a lot of fun, and it was delicious! The sweets assortment also included a variety of sweets with different flavors and textures, so it was fun to eat too!

Cafe & Kitchen Doritoru

Cafe & Kitchen Doritoru is a cafe popular with locals, located in a residential neighborhood about a 12-minute walk from Kakuozan Station. It is also in an area that makes it easy to stop by while sightseeing around Higashiyama Dobutsuen (Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens) in Aichi.

In a calm monochrome setting, they serve parfaits and light meals, each carefully prepared one by one.

The mini parfaits made with seasonal fruits are perfect for a quick cafe break.

Every summer, a parfait made with peaches in season appears on the menu and draws many repeat customers. It is said to make the most of the peach's fresh sweet-tart flavor, offering a simple way to enjoy the fruit at its best.

For cafe lunches and light meals, the most popular item is the "homemade corned beef sandwich."

The main filling is corned beef, made by shredding and seasoning beef. With plenty of leafy greens added, this sandwich is finished in an ethnic style with spices and herbs.

名古屋のグルメ会長

The interior is as spacious and stylish as ever. There is also parking. This time, I had the ichigo (strawberry) and grilled banana parfait. The grilled banana, the ichigo, and the lightly sweet whipped cream are a perfect match. Doritoru’s signature black tea ice cream is excellent. At the bottom is a graham cookie. It is a very well-crafted parfait.

I found a lovely hidden gem of a cafe. The back of the place is quite spacious, with several tables arranged in an irregular layout. Right at the front, there is a relaxing sofa area with a fireplace. The corned beef salad sandwich, which you can order any time without time restrictions, has a good amount of volume. The menu was wide-ranging and appealing, making this a rare kind of cafe that really makes you want to come back.

The menu items are served in tableware and bottle-style cups like the ones used in school lunches. The "yoake Custard Pudding" is also appealing for its retro presentation.

It features smooth custard topped with plenty of lightly sweet whipped cream. The fragrant caramel adds a nice accent.

Ogura toast, which originated in kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shops) in Nagoya, is a dish of nicely toasted bread topped with gently sweet anko (sweet red bean paste). It is loved by people in Aichi Prefecture for breakfast or as a snack.

As the butter melts from the warmth of the bread, it adds a mild, rich flavor.

Speaking of Nagoya, the classic choice is anbutter toast. The bread here is nicely toasted, and the saltiness of the butter and the sweetness of the red bean anko paste are a perfect match, making it simple yet satisfying.

From the window seats, you can take in a full view of the streetscape in front of Nagoya Station, and the interior is said to be modern and relaxing. The spacing between seats is wide, so the layout lets you relax at your own pace.

Another draw of the cafe-time menu is its lineup of Japanese sweets. The “Cream Shiratama Anmitsu” is shiratama anmitsu (traditional Japanese dessert with agar jelly, sweet toppings, and chewy rice flour dumplings), a classic Japanese-style dessert that adds chewy dumplings to chilled anmitsu.

It is topped with matcha powder, which adds a lightly bitter accent.

With its rich flavor, it is said to be a great drink to enjoy casually, and ideal even for people who are not used to matcha.

BOKENASU

・Shiratama cream anmitsu (sweet bean dessert with rice dumplings and ice cream)
The shiratama (rice flour dumplings) are more like mochi than shiratama, with a very chewy texture. Since the shiratama is served warm, you need to eat it quickly or the milk ice cream will melt. Overall, it is not too sweet, and even though the shiratama is quite filling, you can finish it with ease. The arare (rice crackers) served on the side as a palate cleanser are a nice touch.

• Strong hojicha (roasted green tea) milk
It was hotter than I expected, which was a bit Surprising lol. I drank it without adding gum syrup, so it had a strict zero-sweetness taste. If you like it sweeter, I recommend adding syrup! Wrapped in natural interior decor, the space feels very comfortable and is perfect for reading or spending time alone.
