[Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture] Popular shops for sweets

Main Lounge (Rihga Royal Hotel Osaka)

Located inside Rihga Royal Hotel directly connected to Keihan Nakanoshima Station, Main Lounge. A shuttle bus runs from JR Osaka Station every 15 minutes.

The interior, marked by its high ceilings and cloud-like chandeliers, also looks out onto a bamboo grove and waterfall beyond the windows, making it a popular place to spend an elegant time.

It is popular for offering a wide variety of sweets, from Western-style to Japanese-style.

Especially popular is the afternoon tea, which comes with a range of sweets and savory items, plus free-flow drinks.

The selection changes with the seasons, but every item is said to be excellent. Reservations are required at least 3 days in advance.

The photo shows the "oju set," recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy Japanese sweets. The contents vary depending on the day, but it makes generous use of Japanese ingredients such as matcha, anko (sweet red bean paste), and shiratama (dumplings made from glutinous rice flour).

For drinks, you can choose from hot matcha, cold matcha, or Japanese black tea.

こぐこぐこぐま

I had been thinking of getting the wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) set, but then I spotted the shortcake! I ordered the shortcake set without hesitation. They seated me by the window, and I could relax and enjoy tea while looking out at the waterfall and bamboo grove. The shortcake had large strawberries and was very satisfying to eat. The fresh cream was tasty, and the sponge cake was nicely moist just the way I like it. It was a shortcake I’d definitely like to come back for again!

These days I sometimes make a reservation and go for afternoon tea, but my favorite by far is still the Japanese-style parfait set. With this set, you can choose Japanese black tea, and it is very good. The staff also wear kimono (traditional Japanese clothing), which is lovely.

The kinpira gobo (braised burdock root) and bacon hot sandwich was very filling and really tasty! The gateau chocolate was dense, sticky, and chewy, almost like a terrine, and it was amazing. The latte was so cute that I drank it carefully lol. If you chose a cat mug, it came with cat latte art, and I was touched by the lovely thoughtfulness of the staff♪♪

Cream cheese was kneaded into the batter, and even though it was supposed to be a simple pancake, it was incredibly good!! Precisely because it was simple, the quality of the ingredients really stood out. It went perfectly with maple syrup and butter. The atmosphere inside the shop was also spacious and great. I want to go again.

This is my favorite crepe shop, and it has been there ever since Grand Front opened. For about 10 years now, I have always ordered the chocolate banana crepe. Somehow or another, I end up going every year. Sometimes for the strawberry buffet, sometimes for a reward lunch. Everything is good, but my favorites are still the shortcake and the melon cake. These are in a class of their own. With every bite, I can't help saying, "So good!" It is the kind of taste you want to savor. The opera cake was also delicious.

The menu item I liked best was the New Otani tokusei (special house-made) pancakes. They came with three toppings—whipped butter, fresh cream, and maple syrup—that you can add to suit your taste. They were so good that I wanted to eat them again even though I was already full.

This crepe has a thin yet pleasantly chewy dough, and together with the cream cheese and ice cream, it creates layers of great flavor. The texture and slight saltiness of the cookies and walnuts add a nice accent, so you can enjoy it all the way to the last bite.

I ordered the strawberry crepe and a cafe au lait. The crepe came topped with custard, whipped cream, and ice cream. The crepe had a chewy texture. The balance with the tartness of the strawberries was great, and the flavor was like a mille-feuille. The sweetness was just right, so it was easy to see why it is so popular. The cafe au lait had a bitter taste.

It is just a short walk from Nankai Mikunigaoka Station.

Inside the stylish cafe, they also sell cute kofun goods.

The "Kofun Ice Cream" is served on a cute plate shaped like a kofun (ancient burial mound). It also comes with shiratama (rice flour dumplings) made with glutinous rice flour and topped with anko (sweet red bean paste) sauce.

They also offer the "Koicha UP Kofun Ice Cream," which you eat by pouring koicha (thick matcha tea) over the ice cream for an even stronger matcha flavor. It is recommended for matcha lovers.

The "baked cheesecake," with an illustration of a kofun (ancient burial mound) drawn in matcha powder on the plate, is also popular for its rich and tasty flavor.

They also offer a wide variety of other sweets, including seasonal limited items. You can also add a set drink such as coffee, tea, or a soft drink at a good price.

A cafe that serves all kinds of sweets inspired by kofun (ancient burial mounds)!! A friend brought me here too. It was a small, hidden-gem kind of place. We stayed and chatted for quite a long time, but the staff were wonderful, and it became a place I’d like to visit again. It was a really interesting cafe.

Four kinds of matcha (powdered green tea) sets! It comes with omatcha (powdered green tea). The sponge cake and daifuku (soft rice cake filled with sweet bean paste) really were delicious! I got to fully enjoy matcha through this Japanese and Western collaboration. It is just the right walking route from Daisen Kofun (Daisen Burial Mound). The shop was also full of kofun goods, which made it fun.
