Mouyan Curry Shinjuku Higashiguchi Ten

Moyan Curry Shinjuku Higashiguchi Ten is a popular spot known for its authentic European style curry made with plenty of vegetables and kampo yakuzen spices (traditional herbal medicinal spices) in each plate of curry.

The wood based interior feels clean and calm.

The curry sauce is said to use plenty of vegetables and fruits, including about one onion per serving.

It also uses plenty of more than 20 kinds of spices that can be used in kampo (traditional Japanese herbal medicine), and the blend is adjusted depending on the climate, showing the restaurant's strong attention to detail.

With the wide variety of curries, you can also add toppings such as cheese or mushrooms to enjoy them more to your liking.

At this restaurant, body friendly curry made without wheat flour or additives is popular.

Today I visited Moyan Curry Shinjuku Higashiguchi Ten in Shinjuku. This restaurant is in Kabukicho (entertainment district) and is near TOHO Cinemas. Today I chose the 3-meat assortment curry with chicken, pork, and beef tendon, at spice level 3. The gluten-free curry roux had deep flavor and was incredibly delicious.

・Mine Curry
The curry itself didn’t feel overwhelmingly spicy or heavily seasoned, but had just the right level of spice and flavoring, and pairing it with a rich, full-bodied red wine brought out the spices and the flavors of the ingredients even more, creating a great synergy that made it so good I couldn’t stop eating!

ゆらグルメ

This is a restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Indian curry. The dinner menu is also priced as reasonably as the lunch menu, which is great! I’m not good with spicy food, but I had the mild butter chicken curry, and it was very good. The mango lassi was also refreshing and just my taste.

I thought it was pretty good. I got the mutton curry and naan set with salad, and chose iced coffee for the drink. The mutton curry had big chunks of mutton in it, which was really Manzoku, and you can get free refills of naan. The staff asked, "Would you like another naan?" at just the right time, so I got fired up and ate two pieces.

APA Shacho Curry (APA President Curry) Iidabashi Eki Minami Ten

At Apa Shacho Curry Iidabashi Eki Minami Ten on the first floor of APA Hotel Iidabashi Eki Minami, you can try the signature curry of the APA Group hotel chain even if you are not staying there.

The space is compact with all counter seating, so it is also a good pick when you want to grab a quick meal.

APA Hotel opened in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. The curry here is based on Kanazawa curry, a local specialty, and one of its features is that it is served on a stainless steel plate with cabbage on the side.

You can enjoy rich, full-bodied curry here, including "Apa Shacho Curry."

The most popular item, the "Rosu Katsu Shacho Curry," is a classic Kanazawa curry combination of rosu-katsu (pork loin cutlet) and cabbage.

The curry sauce has the natural sweetness of beef and vegetables along with deep flavor, topped with crispy breaded rosu-katsu, while the texture of the cabbage and its fresh sweetness add a nice accent.

• Rosu Katsu (pork loin cutlet) Shacho Curry
The curry is darker than I expected. It is mild but has good depth. It is not all that spicy, so it seems like something most people would enjoy. The cutlet is on the thinner side, but it is fairly large. It is crispy and crunchy, and tastes great.

・Juicy Kara-age President Curry
It took a surprisingly long time for the dish to come out, so they were clearly frying it properly‼️It looks like Kanazawa curry, and the spoon is the same style too. First, the Kara-age: it is juicy, large, and really satisfying to eat. The roux is the color of hayashi rice, and you can taste the flavor of the vegetables, with seasoning that keeps it from getting old and makes it delicious‼️

LION ET LAPIN

At LION ET LAPIN, French taste curries made by a chef with the knowledge and skills of French cuisine are popular.

They also offer oden (Japanese stew simmered in broth), a Japanese dish in which ingredients are cooked in dashi broth, and Japanese sake, making for a lineup you can keep enjoying without getting bored.

The curry uses Nepali spices and adds French elements, showing the kind of creative touch you only find at LION ET LAPIN.

They also serve "Curry Lamb," with lamb simmered for 15 hours for lots of rich flavor, and "Curry Seafood," done in a bouillabaisse style.

The "Curry Chicken" is a simple yet beautifully presented dish topped with herb-breaded baked chicken, and it has a great reputation for its appearance.

The curry sauce has a nice spice kick and richness, and it apparently goes surprisingly well with Japanese-style rice cooked with dashi and ginger.

・Curry Chicken
This comes with herb breaded baked chicken on top of spice curry. As soon as the plate is set down, you get the nice aroma of spices. It looks beautiful too. The curry is quite spicy. It also has good depth of flavor and tastes great. It goes very well with the slightly sweet ginger rice seasoned with Japanese style dashi broth. The toast, browned nicely all over, also has a springy texture that feels nice to eat.

・Curry Lamb
It has a smooth feel on the tongue, but it is not watery. The melted down vegetables and spices create a nice light texture. And the real standout is the lamb, simmered for 15 hours. You might think that after that long it would be almost like kakuni (braised pork belly), but it is not falling apart and instead has a clean bite. At the same time, it is juicy, with the rich flavor of the lamb coming through.

The ultimate butter chicken curry specialty restaurant GANDEN

GANDEN, an "ultimate butter chicken curry" specialty restaurant in Kagurazaka, is known as a place where you can enjoy great curry in a space that blends the charm of the Edo period with modern sophistication.

It is only open on certain days and at lunch time, and it closes once sold out, so it is best to check in advance.

At this restaurant, the curry comes on a single plate with spice-based side dishes, salad with house-made dressing, and two kinds of sauce, so you can enjoy changing up the flavors as you eat.

・Ultimate butter chicken curry
The curry is thick and rich, the complete opposite of light and runny. You can really taste the depth in its layered, full-bodied spices. The heat was milder than I expected, but it still slowly opened the sweat glands by the second half. It leaves a lingering heat.

The weekly special was something like a stewed chicken curry. Each curry had a deep flavor and tasted very good. I chose the rice in a Regular size of 150g, but 200g might have been fine too. Plain white rice would have been fine, but I wanted a bit of everything, so I went with yakubap (medicinal rice). All I can say is, it was delicious. It had been a while since my last visit, and I remembered how good the "mutton pork keema" was from the 2-curry Combination I had before, so I ordered it with a topping of "uzura tamago achar (pickled quail eggs)." The keema, scented with allspice, had a subtle taste that made good use of the flavor of the two kinds of minced meat. The side dishes were just what you would expect from a spice izakaya (Japanese-style pub), and the cumin-dressed carrots in particular were outstanding.

Puchi Mezon

Puchi Mezon is a house restaurant tucked away in a residential area of Setagaya, Tokyo, and it is known for serving top class French curry.

Inside, the relaxed space lets guests enjoy conversation and their meal in comfort, and the menu features flavors the chef first encountered while honing his craft in France.

The curry served here is said to recreate the flavor the chef first encountered while training in France, with the same level of care and ingredients used at a high-end restaurant, and each one made with great attention.

The photo shows the “Jidori no France Curry,” made with thigh meat from Tokushima-produced Awaodori (brand chicken from Tokushima), and it is popular for the tasty flavor that spreads from the firm, springy chicken.

At this restaurant, they reportedly simmer vegetables and fruits such as kanjuku tomato (fully ripe tomato) separately, then cook off the moisture to bring out their umami and sweetness, resulting in an elegant and delicate finish.

The "[Limited Quantity] Umi no Sachi-fu (seafood-style) France Curry" is said to come with a deep, layered sauce made with broth from omar ebi (lobster) and fish bones.

・Jidori (free-range chicken) French curry
The first thing that spreads across your palate is a surprisingly fruity sweetness. Then a gentle aroma of spices follows, giving it the feel of a plated French dish rather than a curry. It takes a completely different approach from the usual line of European-style curries or spice curries.

I made a reservation a month in advance and finally visited. For the French curry I had been looking forward to, I chose the seafood option. The moment it hit my mouth, it felt ethnic, but then it changed into a different taste. It was delicious, and there is no way an ordinary person could ever recreate it. I had to admit defeat. The Appetizers and sweets were all wonderfully delicious too. I’ll go again.
