[Tokyo: Shibuya, Ebisu, and Daikanyama Area] Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy Great Gyoza (dumplings)

Yicai Liuxiang Gyoza Shokuchu Ebisu

This is a gyoza (Japanese dumplings) specialty restaurant where you can casually enjoy one of a kind dumplings, just like at Issairyuko, the popular Chinese home style restaurant in Osaka. It is a 3-minute walk from Ebisu Station in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward.

The interior is clean and comfortable, and many people say its stylish atmosphere is part of the appeal.

One thing that sets the gyoza apart at this place is that they do not use garlic. That is a nice touch when you have plans later in the day.

The specialty suisho-gyoza (crystal dumplings) stands out for its unusual shape. The crystal clear wrapper, which looks like crystal, has a nice texture and pairs perfectly with the filling, which is packed with flavor.

The tsurun and light-textured suigyoza (boiled dumplings) are also popular. At lunchtime, they also offer set menus with suisho gyoza (crystal dumplings).

Inside the wrapper is a gently seasoned filling packed with the good flavor of the ingredients, and people say it is light and easy to eat.

"Agu-buta (Okinawan Agu pork), shrimp, and napa cabbage crystal gyoza." They look like boiled dumplings, but they’re actually pan-fried. The skin is smooth and slippery, while the browned side is crisp and chewy. It uses Agu-buta, but the filling is surprisingly light! I finished all 8 in no time(笑)

The crystal dumplings were excellent. There was such a wide variety of gyoza (dumplings) that it was hard to choose! I’d love to visit again if I get the chance!

Shibuya Gyoza

This gyoza restaurant is located in Shibuya Center-gai, about a 6-minute walk from the Hachiko Exit ticket gate of Shibuya Station.

The interior has a modern feel with a wood-grain design. It has both counter and table seating, making it perfect for a quick meal or drinks.

The gyoza (pan-fried dumplings) served at this restaurant use a specially developed thin wrapper, and are said to have a fragrant, crisp texture.

Inside the wrapper is plenty of filling made with meat and vegetables, making them perfect both as a side for rice and as a snack with drinks.

They have a great selection of pan-fried gyoza dumplings, and if you want to try a few different flavors little by little, the “4 Kind Pan-Fried Gyoza Dumpling assortment” is recommended.

They also offer an All you can eat course where you can enjoy your fill of gyoza dumplings. In addition to 4 kinds of gyoza dumplings, rice and soup are also All you can eat.

みずはら(miz14)

The gyoza (pan-fried dumplings) were cooked just right, crisp on the outside and juicy inside. For this price, the quality is very satisfying, and I think the overall value is quite high. The mapo dofu (spicy tofu in sauce) was also more authentic than expected, with rich depth and a solid kick of heat that went really well with rice. The interior is bright and clean, with an atmosphere that makes it easy to visit whether you are alone or with a group.

Today I ordered cheese gyoza (dumplings) and fried rice. Look at these cheese gyoza with their perfect golden sear. The crispy skirt is extra crunchy. One bite fills your mouth with hot meat juices and rich cheese. Why do gyoza filling and cheese go so well together?

The gyoza served in a piping hot iron pot are cooked into a round shape that looks appetizing as well. The contrast between the crisp lacy crust and the chewy wrapper is just right. With one bite, juicy meat juices and the good flavor of the vegetables spill out from inside.

At 3・6・5 Sakaba Shibuya Honten, I think the tetsunabe gyoza (iron pot dumplings) in particular are outstanding, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. I was also able to really enjoy the beer with chicken wings and French fries as snacks! It also came with edamame and Hot Pot, and everything was reasonably priced with excellent value for money. The mapo tofu and fried rice both get a passing grade, and the portions are generous too. It was the kind of place that makes you want to come back.

The signature item is hane-tsuki gyoza (pan-fried dumplings with crispy wings), each one carefully wrapped to order. The large, impressive crispy wings really stand out.

The filling uses fresh meat, seafood, and Domestic vegetables, and it pairs perfectly with the chewy wrapper. You can enjoy them with the special chili oil, garlic, and grated daikon radish.

In addition to pan-fried gyoza, they also offer boiled gyoza and soup gyoza, for a total lineup of about 13 kinds of Homemade gyoza.

The photo shows the "Tantan Sui-Gyoza," which comes with 6 dumplings in tantan soup. This is a warming dish that is recommended for the cold season.

I ordered their specialty yaki-gyoza (pan-fried dumplings), sanra sui-gyoza (hot and sour boiled dumplings), and chinjao rosu (stir-fried green peppers and pork). The grilled dumplings come Kamata-style with crispy wings, but each one was bigger than I expected, nicely cooked, and very tasty. The boiled dumplings also came in a portion about the size of a full bowl of ramen, and the filling had a pleasantly bouncy texture and tasted great. The soup was the same as the one in sanra tanmen (hot and sour noodle soup), and I was completely Manzoku.

The staff were very courteous, which I really appreciated. I ordered boiled gyoza dumplings and pan-fried gyoza dumplings. There were many different kinds, and the dumplings were juicy too. In a good way, it didn’t feel very Ginza-like, and it was very easy to drop in. I’ll definitely be back!

・Mizore gyoza
These mizore gyoza are pan-fried until crisp, then topped with plenty of grated daikon radish and shiso (perilla), and enjoyed with ponzu sauce. The juicy meat juices are balanced by the fresh lightness of the grated daikon radish, leaving a very clean finish.

[Tokyo / Seibu Line Area] Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy Great Gyoza (dumplings)

Nogata Gyoza Honten

This gyoza specialist serves carefully crafted gyoza developed through extensive research. It has received a Tabelog Gyoza Tabelog 100 award.

The interior has a clean and polished feel, and some reviews say it feels like a cafe. It is about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of Nogata Station in Nakano City, Tokyo.

The gyoza (dumplings) use no garlic or garlic chives at all, aiming for a refined flavor that no one else can imitate.

The hanetsuki (winged) "yaki-gyoza (pan-fried dumplings)" cooked on Nanbu ironware are said to let you taste the natural goodness of the ingredients, thanks to their simple filling.

Besides the standard dumplings, they also offer other varieties, and for those looking for a kick, the "mala tantan sui-gyoza (boiled dumplings with spicy mala tantan sauce)" comes recommended.

The chewy sui-gyoza are topped with a mildly spicy sauce, and the numbing kick of the Japanese pepper is said to come through nicely. For the topping, you can choose either mitsuba (Japanese parsley) or cilantro.

The extra cheese gyoza (dumplings) we ordered came with plenty of melted cheese over piping hot gyoza, giving them a rich and mellow taste. The saltiness of the cheese brought out the savory flavor of the gyoza even more, making it a highly satisfying plate. This famous restaurant lets you feel the care and attention to detail you would expect from a gyoza specialty shop.

らーめんすこたろう

The gyoza (dumplings) really go almost too well with beer! A standout feature of these gyoza is that they are made without garlic chives or garlic, and you can also adjust the sauce mix to suit your taste. The meat was juicy, and the gyoza had a whole new feel to them!

Gyoza Mania Nerima Ten

A 1-minute walk from the west exit of Nerima Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. This gyoza restaurant serves freshly made gyoza (pan-fried dumplings), cooked only after you order.

The lively yatai (street stall)-style atmosphere is a key feature, creating an exotic space that makes you feel as if you were in China. It is also a great fit for casual dining without any fuss.

The gyoza (Japanese dumplings) here are made in-house from the wrappers up, and they say the key to their great taste is that they only start rolling out the dough after an order comes in.

The classic choice is their crispy and juicy "yaki-gyoza (pan-fried dumplings)" with wings. The carefully wrapped filling is said to be packed with plenty of savory juices.

The chewy boiled dumplings come in many kinds, including shrimp, scallop, and pakuchi (cilantro). You can order from 4 pieces, so they are also perfect for people who want to try a few different dumplings little by little.

They also have a wide selection of Chinese liquors and yakuzen (herbal wellness) drinks, which you will definitely want to enjoy with the dumplings.

Not just the gyoza, the other menu items were also incredibly good! Even though it is a gyoza izakaya (Japanese pub), it has a slightly stylish atmosphere! It was on a Friday night, but we luckily got in without a reservation! The otoshi (table appetizer), zha cai, is All you can eat! The balance of crunch and softness is perfect! You can also eat the famous gyoza while watching the staff knead and make them right in front of you.

とん6

For the boiled dumplings, we ordered shungiku (garland chrysanthemum), pakuchi (cilantro), and shrimp. The wrappers were pleasantly chewy and silky, and when you bit into them, the soup spilled out, making them just as tasty as expected. And of course, they went perfectly with beer. Next, we ordered yodare-dori (steamed chicken with spicy sauce) and pickled celery. The chicken in the yodare-dori was incredibly tender, and the sweet-tart, mildly spicy sauce with pakuchi was a perfect match, making it really delicious.
