Recommended Okonomiyaki Restaurants Near Hiroshima Station, Loved by Locals

Located on the 6th floor of the Hiroshima Full Focus Building, just a 5-minute walk from the south exit of JR Hiroshima Station, Denkou Sekka can be found inside "Hiroshima Okonomi Monogatari Ekimae Hiroba," a theme park dedicated to Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
The floor features a variety of restaurants, each with counter seating surrounding a teppan grill, allowing guests to experience the lively atmosphere of freshly prepared okonomiyaki.

The photo shows the classic "Nikutama-yaki" (Hiroshima okonomiyaki with meat) topped with green onions—a simple style that comes highly recommended by locals.
This restaurant uses Otafuku Sauce, the signature flavor from Otafuku Sauce Co., Ltd., which is headquartered in Hiroshima’s Nishi Ward, for an authentic, traditional taste.

One must-try dish is the restaurant's signature "Denkou Sekka." This dome-shaped Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki features savory fillings wrapped in a fluffy omelet.
The flavorful ika-ten (fried squid) and aromatic chopped shiso leaves add a refreshing touch, creating a taste you'll never tire of.

At Denkou Sekka, the signature "Denkou Sekka" okonomiyaki is an extravagant, show-stopping dish designed to impress, making it a popular choice for visitors. On the other hand, the classic Nikutama-Yaki is a local favorite, simple and beloved by regulars. If you want the best of Denkou Sekka, I highly recommend the Niku-Tama-Yaki.

I considered trying the most popular "Denkou Sekka" special, but for my first visit, I wanted to experience the standard option. I rarely have the chance to eat okonomiyaki in Hiroshima, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was so delicious that I’d love to come back again.

Rei Chan began as a food stall and has remained a local favorite even after relocating to the first floor of "ekie Dining" at JR Hiroshima Station’s Shinkansen exit.
With both counter and table seating, the restaurant offers a lively atmosphere that welcomes solo diners and families alike.

Only staff members who have passed the restaurant’s rigorous training are allowed to prepare the okonomiyaki, ensuring each dish is expertly crafted.
Carefully selected ingredients, such as cabbage sourced from different regions each season, reflect the restaurant’s commitment to quality. This renowned establishment is frequented by locals who truly know their okonomiyaki.

The "Special" is the most popular dish, featuring both squid and shrimp. It's known for its rich seafood flavor and light, fluffy texture.
The okonomiyaki is pre-seasoned with a slightly sweet sauce, but you can also enjoy it with a spicy sauce or an additive-free sauce for a different taste experience.

Located inside the ekie station building at Hiroshima Station, Rei Chan is a popular okonomiyaki restaurant that has drawn long lines ever since the days of the former ASSE building. While there are many okonomiyaki restaurants in the station, as a local, I believe Rei Chan serves the best.

Despite arriving just before 5:00 PM—a somewhat off-peak hour—there was already a line outside this popular restaurant. After waiting about 20 minutes, I was shown to my seat. In addition to dine-in guests, there was a steady stream of locals picking up their take away orders. The constant flow of customers truly demonstrated why Rei Chan is so well-loved.

Not a tourist-oriented spot, but rather a small, long-standing neighborhood eatery. Just a 7-minute walk from Hiroshima Station's Shinkansen exit, it offers a great value meal that even includes coffee after your meal. Unlike places that serve large crowds of tourists, each okonomiyaki is carefully prepared with close attention to detail, ensuring it is cooked to perfection. The flavor is outstanding.

Since I visited on a Friday night, the restaurant was nearly full with local office workers. I was seated at the counter facing the teppan grill, which made me a little nervous. [Hiroshima City & Downtown Area] Okonomiyaki Restaurants Recommended by Locals
Photograph:tabelog.com
The bustling downtown districts of Hiroshima City, such as Hatchobori and Kamiyacho, are home to a wide variety of restaurants and attract large crowds, especially on weekends.
Among the many local favorites is this renowned establishment, located just a 4-minute walk from Hatchobori Station. Founded in 1950, it is considered the birthplace of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
Photograph:kotwuu
Okonomiyaki Micchan Sohonten Hacchobori Honten has faithfully preserved the flavors and techniques passed down from its founder.
The restaurant is credited with pioneering the now-iconic Hiroshima soul food: okonomiyaki layered with noodles, its signature rich and savory sauce, and the tradition of eating directly from the grill with a spatula—all innovations introduced by the original owner.
The cabbage is sliced differently depending on the part and season to ensure a consistent texture, then steamed to bring out its natural sweetness.
The crispy finish of their house-made noodles and the fruity flavor of their original sauce make this okonomiyaki truly one-of-a-kind, available only here.

Ordered Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki and Yaki Udon. First, the okonomiyaki—an impressively generous portion. Despite the size, it feels light, likely thanks to the abundance of cabbage. This was almost my first time trying Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, and it was well worth changing my plans after a strong recommendation from a local taxi driver. I look forward to returning the next time I’m in Hiroshima. Highly recommended to everyone.

For my okonomiyaki, I chose the Shiso (perilla leaf) topping from the "Ichiban Yaki" menu. The noodles were intentionally grilled to a crisp, and I requested the egg to be cooked soft and runny—an excellent choice, as it turned out incredibly delicious. Now I understand why this place is so popular with the locals.

Located in a quiet back alley of Minami Ward, Hiroshima, about a 9-minute walk from Hijiyamashita Station.
Despite its hidden location, Non Non has continued to serve time-honored flavors passed down from the previous generation, attracting a diverse clientele including local families and solo diners.

At Non Non, a local favorite, the focus is on using only Japanese ingredients and no artificial seasonings. Their signature dish, Okonomiyaki with pork, egg, and either soba or udon noodles, is especially popular.
The okonomiyaki here is known for its light and fluffy texture, generously filled with finely shredded cabbage for easy eating.

Okonomiyaki here is carefully prepared and beautifully shaped. The thin batter is designed to highlight the sweetness and texture of the cabbage.
A wide selection of toppings is available, including extra green onions and double eggs. Sharing and sampling different varieties is highly recommended.

Although the interior is compact, the restaurant is clean and well-kept. On this visit, I ordered the classic Double Meat and Egg Soba. What sets Non Non apart is the beautifully rounded and three-dimensional shape of their okonomiyaki. Of course, the flavor is excellent as well. The steady stream of takeout orders by phone is further proof of its popularity among locals.

ぷる@らーめんまつうら
The okonomiyaki here is beautifully prepared, with the cabbage perfectly steamed for a light and fluffy texture. The seasoning is subtle, allowing the delicate flavors of the ingredients to shine through, resulting in a well-balanced dish. Although located a bit outside central Hiroshima, it is easy to see why this restaurant is so popular—the okonomiyaki is truly delicious.

"Okonomiyaki Tecchan Honten" is a neighborhood favorite in Mihara, well-known among locals for its excellent take away options and loyal regulars who often line up for a taste.
Each counter and table is equipped with a teppan-yaki grill, allowing guests to enjoy their okonomiyaki hot and fresh. Conveniently located just a 3-minute walk from Mihara Station on the JR Sanyo Main Line.

In Mihara City, many restaurants refer to okonomiyaki with noodles as "modan-yaki."
At Okonomiyaki Tecchan, okonomiyaki with either soba or udon noodles is labeled as "modan-yaki," while those without noodles are simply called "okonomiyaki." It's interesting to see how the names vary depending on the region.

Mihara-yaki is a unique style of okonomiyaki from Mihara City, an area known for its thriving poultry production. This specialty features okonomiyaki filled with chicken offal.
The photo shows a modern-style Mihara-yaki, which includes ingredients such as chicken liver and kinkan (undeveloped eggs). The crunchy texture of sunagimo (gizzard) is also said to be especially enjoyable.

My favorite okonomiyaki restaurant in the area. When I arrived just after 11:30 am, the place was already fully booked, with a sign at the entrance indicating a 30-minute wait. It took about an hour from my arrival to be seated. However, they start preparing your okonomiyaki while you wait, so you can enjoy your meal as soon as you are shown to your table.

Ordered the highly recommended Tecchan Modan-yaki! Packed with ingredients like squid, shrimp, and egg, it was hearty and absolutely delicious. The noodles were cooked just right—not too firm—which I personally loved. They also offer take away, and watching the staff prepare okonomiyaki one after another, it was clear that this place is a favorite among locals.

You can enjoy the flavors of a renowned local favorite from Fuchu City at Hira no Ya, located about a 10-minute walk from Higashi-Fukuyama Station in Fukuyama’s Hikino district.
The cozy restaurant features a main teppan-yaki counter, tables, and traditional raised seating.

Bingo Fuchu-yaki is a local specialty from Fuchu City, featuring Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki made with ground meat. At Hira no Ya, you can enjoy their original "Fuchu-yaki (Okonomiyaki)" topped with a soft-cooked egg.
The minced pork, with just the right amount of fat, is grilled until crispy in places. The finely shredded cabbage adds a gentle texture, while the egg is light and fluffy.

For menu items with soba noodles, you can substitute them with spicy orange-colored noodles (for an additional charge), a popular choice among regular customers.
These noodles are kneaded with chili peppers, offering a heat that stands up to the sauce. You can also opt for a half-and-half portion with the regular noodles.

Fuchu-yaki Soba Nikutama
This specialty features soba noodles and minced pork with a higher fat content, grilled until crispy. It's finished with a rich, soft-scrambled egg on top, creating a perfect harmony with the savory sauce. The sweetness of the thoroughly steamed cabbage stands out, adding depth to every bite. The ingredients are simple, yet the flavors are truly exceptional.

Lighter than Osaka-style okonomiyaki, the sweetness of the steamed cabbage is especially enjoyable. Delicious! There was also a spicy orange noodle option, which seemed popular with the locals—it must pair well with the dish. Everything was wonderful. It was a great meal.

Okonomiyaki Murakami, located in Kubo, Onomichi City, is known as the inspiration for a popular TV drama. Locals highly recommend this long-standing restaurant for its timeless flavors that have remained unchanged over the years.

Onomichi-yaki, which originated in Onomichi City, is a style of okonomiyaki featuring ingredients such as chicken gizzard and crispy squid tempura.
The most popular dish, "Onomichi-yaki Plus," adds pork to the classic ingredients and is finished with a generous topping of green onions. The flavor and texture change with each bite, making every mouthful uniquely enjoyable.

The "Chef's Recommendation: Murakami Special" is an okonomiyaki featuring a generous mix of seafood such as squid and scallops, along with pork.
The savory flavors of the seafood soak into the noodles, perfectly complemented by the restaurant's signature homemade sauce, known for its rich aroma and appetite-rousing taste.

Onomichi-yaki, a local specialty of Onomichi, is served here. The restaurant is only open on weekends, so I anticipated crowds during the holiday and arrived before opening. By around 10:30 am, local customers had already gathered, and I was kindly allowed in before official opening hours. The dish features crunchy chicken gizzard, adding a delightful texture and making it truly exceptional.

I had always wanted to visit this well-known local favorite, and I finally made it. After a short wait on the bench outside, I was able to enter the cozy restaurant, which has just 10 counter seats and a welcoming atmosphere. The owner runs the place single-handedly and is the third generation to take over from his mother. Before this, he operated a restaurant in Osaka. I feel like I may have visited here as a child—after all, Okonomiyaki Murakami has been in business since 1952, which is truly impressive.

Located on the first floor of an apartment building in a residential area of Saijo Chuo, Higashihiroshima, Ajito is a popular local favorite where reservations are recommended for a worry-free visit.
Guests can choose from counter seating with a view of the kitchen or relax in a traditional raised tatami area, making it suitable for both small and large groups.

The okonomiyaki is topped with "Samurai Negi," a type of green onion grown in Shiwa Town, Higashihiroshima. The fresh, sharp flavor and crisp texture of the negi enhance the dish and stimulate the appetite.
The balance between the sauce-coated noodles and the sweetness of the vegetables is also exceptional.

In addition to soba or udon, the "Chanpon" (mixed noodles) is also highly recommended. Although the noodles vary in thickness, the savory sauce brings everything together, creating a deliciously harmonious flavor.
Popular toppings for the okonomiyaki include tender beef tendon and konnyaku ("Suji-kon"), cheese—a favorite among women—and shiso leaves.

This is one of the top two okonomiyaki restaurants in Hiroshima—it's nearly impossible to choose between them! Each okonomiyaki is prepared with great care, resulting in a sweet and delicious flavor. The batter is excellent, and their classic okonomiyaki comes highly recommended. The Horumon Udon is also very tasty. Even if you don't usually enjoy horumon, you'll find it delicious here!

The "Soba Niku-tama," a local favorite, is a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki known for its crispy and light texture—a single bite is enough to get you hooked.
The savory sweetness of the ground meat, a key ingredient in Bingo Fuchu-yaki, blends perfectly with the noodles, cabbage, and other components, making this a truly satisfying dish.

The crispy texture is balanced by the tender, sweet cabbage inside, a contrast that many diners love.
In addition to the classic "Soba Nikutama" (noodles with pork and egg), the menu also features the value-packed "Soba Special," which includes several extra toppings such as mochi and seafood.

Irresistibly crispy and crunchy noodles! Sachi is known as the most popular okonomiyaki restaurant in Fuchu City, so I made a reservation by phone (I called at 11:30 am and was able to book a table for 12:30 pm—reservations are a must). The texture of their okonomiyaki was unlike anything I’ve had before. The noodles are grilled to a perfect crisp, creating an addictive crunch. Absolutely delicious. The owner is also very friendly and welcoming.
