After a late lunch, I decided to stop in Zushi for a quick meal while running some errands on my motorcycle.
It was a cold day, but considering the current state of my car, I didn’t want to unnecessarily extend my trip.
I aimed to grab a quick bite at a restaurant near Higashi-Zushi Station, where I spotted a lunch announcement at the intersection next to the station.
With a nearby space to park my motorcycle, I decided to give it a try.
I visited Kappa Zushi.
Despite sharing a name with the now-famous Kappa Create Inc., it is completely unrelated and is a charming neighborhood sushi shop.
The exterior, designed to resemble a sea cucumber wall, exudes the feel of a local sushi restaurant.
I arrived at 1 PM, and there were no other customers, so I was seated at the counter right in front of the sushi chefs.
The lunch specials displayed outside included 4 types: seafood rice bowl, tuna bowl, squid and tuna bowl, and shirasu rice bowl.
The seafood rice bowl was particularly tempting, with a photo pop-up advertising it.
With a bowl of miso soup and a small appetizer included, I was drawn to the limited offer available until 2 PM.
I ordered the Seafood Rice Bowl for JPY 1,400 (tax included).
While the friendly chef skillfully prepared the dishes, his wife set up tea, hot towels, and everything else for me.
As I warmed up with the steaming hot tea, the first dish was served: a small plate of appetizers.
A delightful mix of dried Japanese radish, simmered konjac, and boiled beans, this trio was a pleasant start and worked well as a snack with drinks.
The chirashi sushi beautifully presented in a lacquered bowl was more appealing than expected, featuring a variety of fresh toppings: medium fatty tuna, fatty tuna, herring roe, salmon roe, octopus, steamed shrimp, squid, scallops, and thick omelet, garnished with pickled radish.
The vinegared rice was perfectly seasoned, and although the portion of rice seemed substantial, I found it easy to finish the entire bowl.
The soup was hot, but it did have a somewhat instant flavor to it; however, it was appreciated on such a chilly day.
During my visit, I chatted with the talkative chef about the former Shitoku-an located at Ikego Crossroads.
He mentioned that it had recently closed down due to a fire.
I passed by it recently but had no recollection of it; when I drove by on my way home, it was already cleared and vacant.
Kappa Zushi, a reasonably priced sushi restaurant in such a prime location right in front of the station, left me with delicious memories and a comfortable atmosphere.
I might look for a parking spot nearby and visit again!
