The Roots of Sauce Katsu Rice Bowl

The story begins around 1928. As Western-style dishes like cutlets, omelets, and curry started gaining popularity, a chef from Komagane visited a Western restaurant in Asakusa, Tokyo, and got inspired by a dish called "katsu retto" (the origin of tonkatsu).

Originally, tonkatsu was a Western dish born out of a big misunderstanding by the Japanese, and the creativity to turn it into a rice bowl is truly remarkable.

They start by placing cabbage on top of a bowl of rice, neatly slicing the freshly fried pork cutlet, and arranging it perfectly. That’s when the magic happens! Each restaurant has its own secret sauce that is generously poured over the dish, making it even more delicious when enjoyed hot.

The unique taste of the sauce that hits your palate instantly brings the essence of home cooking from Komagane. It’s all about enjoying it when you crave it!
